OVERVIEW
LOC is a program organized by CTF and ACE&E in secondary schools across Nigeria. LOC is targeted at SS3
students who are about to graduate from school. The objective of LOC is to give this class of students
emotional, psychological, spiritual and intellectual readiness for university life. To achieve this, LOC
educates outgoing secondary school students in five key areas namely:
1. Attaining Academic Excellence in Higher Institution
2. Financial Intelligence for College Students
3. Building Social Skills for Higher Institution
4. Patriotism and Nationalization
5. The Importance of Spirituality in Higher Institution
These are taught using a combination of co-curricular and extra-curricular techniques to maximally impart
the students.
FACL is located in Canaanland, Ota; it is one of 21 secondary schools in Nigeria owned by the Living Faith
Church Worldwide. FACL was established on the 25th of October 1999 as the premier Faith Academy
School and currently has a population of 1700 students. The 2018 FACL-LOC was the maiden edition of
LOC and saw eager participation from the 226 graduating students (110 females) at FACL.
CTF is a non-governmental organization, headquartered in Egbeda, Lagos Nigeria with a core mission
gotten from 1Timothy 4:12. Paul writes to Timothy; "Do not let anyone look down on you because you
are young, but be an example among believers, in word, in conversation (demeanor/attitude/conduct), in
charity (love), in spirit, in faith and in purity (honesty/integrity)". CTF's mission statement is to equip the
present generation of teenagers with the resources, skillset and leadership capacity required to make
them experts in their selected fields of endeavors. ACE&E’s vision statement is to adopt 3.000 schools,
30.000 teachers and 300.000 students using a mix of curricular and non-curricular heuristics.
The 2018 FACL-LOC was organized in partnership with Faith Academy Chaplaincy and Faith Academy
Alumni Association from the 15th to the 20th of May. It ran for five (5) days using the key areas mentioned
and ended with a short service on the 6th day. The program combined facilitations, break-out sessions, a
chess competition and specialized sessions. Specialized sessions included dance & drama presentations,
prayer sessions, bible study, renewable energy and sustainability webinar, career conference and a variety
night. LOC facilitators were sourced from FACL alumni body and CU alumni body. The daily program is
shown in table 1.

To ensure involvement of all the graduating students, 220 of them were divided into groups of 10; the 6
remaining students worked with the organizers to coordinate the students. The chairperson of CTF,
Oluwatosin Noiki, having received approval from FACL for LOC (See Appendix 1) began preparation with
the students two weeks to the event. This helped to create awareness and excitement within the student
body and greatly raised anticipation for LOC.
The program was life-changing with testimonies and positive feedback from students, teachers and
management staff. God be praised for a successful event.

DAILY RUN-DOWN
Sessions started each day at 8:30am with a short devotion. Each day comprised of classes, break-out
sessions and specialized sessions. Class sessions were structured to be interactive and all-inclusive. The
break-out sessions involved group activities done in the groups of 10 (Appendix 2). Facilitators used
multimedia and other tools to keep the sessions engaging. The summary of daily events is presented here.
Day 1 (May 15):
The opening session of LOC was themed “The Academic Teenager” and was anchored by Leye Sowunmi –
Lesho (CUA Chemical Engineering). The objective of this session was to inspire the students to become
better than the best that they can be. The session involved presentations, quizzes, video sessions, debate,
break-out session exercises (career discussion and GPA exercise) and an interesting display of intellectual
prowess. The students also received a short presentation from Faith Okome (FACLA) who is currently
studying International Relations at the University of Benin. The career discussion break-out sessions were
anchored by Barnabas Amu (CUPG Economics), Oghogho Edosomwan (CUPG Banking and Finance) and
Joshua Obayan (CUA Engineering, CUPG Business Administration).
Two companies running study-abroad programs: Vee & Bee and Harvest Field Educational Services were
on ground to engage with students and increase their knowledge on international opportunities that avail
and steps to take in securing admission abroad. During the night session, the students watched several
motivational, music and biographical videos.
Day 2 (May 16):
Day 2 sailed on the momentum of day 1. It was tagged “Financial Intelligence for College Students.” The
facilitators Isaiah Ligar (FACLA, CU) and Joys Alabi (FACLA, CU Economics) took the students through a
journey of saving and capitalism and the importance of prudence, financial management and financial
intelligence. The facilitators also exposed the students to the time value of money and the concept of
investment and having money work for you. In addition, the facilitators discussed money from a scriptural
perspective, and the place of spirituality in their finances.
Afterwards, the students participated in a quiz and had practical illustrations on money. There was also a
short presentation by Chisom Esonu (FACLA, CU) who intimated the students on life after secondary
school. The students also watched a 30-minute video by T.D. Jakes on entrepreneurship and leadership
and then the students had to complete a classwork on it. Later that night, the students watched the movie
“Hacksaw Ridge.”
Day 3 (May 17):
The third day centered on building social skills for higher institution. The facilitators Esther Adeoro (FACLA,
CU Mass Communication) and Ebuka Ike-mgbechi (FACLA, CU Engineering) discussed topics including:
communication, networking, use of social media, peer influence, self-esteem, dating and relationships.
The students showed eagerness to discuss topics relating to sex, virginity, dating and opposite sex
5
relationship. Ebuka Ike-mgbechi is currently into comedy and was able to successfully use his skill as a
comedian to captivate the students through his entire session. Esther Adeoro used her story and personal
experience to encourage the students on the importance of purity and building healthy and lasting
relationships. These sessions cut into the lunch time of the students and they still did not want the
facilitators to end.
Deji-Folutile Winner (FACLA, CUA, CUPG Architecture) who was valedictorian in his graduating year in CU
and the first in Architecture program to achieve this feat spoke to the students on excellence and staying
strong through challenges. The day was crowned with the movie “Woodlawn” after their dinner.
Day 4 (May 18):
Patriotism was taught on the fourth day. Joy James (FACLA, CU Electrical Engineering) examined different
aspects of patriotism with the students. They discussed in details, the definition of patriotism and the role
of Nigerians as both patriotic leaders and followers. There were also real life examples of present-day
challenges in Nigeria bordering on religion, tribalism and other divides inhibiting the nations progress. At
the end, the students came to an understanding of the importance of their patriotism and a realization of
their role in making Nigeria a better place. Oluwole Oluwafolahanmi (FACLA, CU Architecture) addressed
the students and gave them his perspective and experiences on transitioning to university. The Assistant
Chaplain of FACL, Mr Voke Vowa gave the students a charge and narrated his own experience going
through the university.
The afternoon session featured a career conference. The facilitators of this session were: Phoebe Umane
(CUA, CUPG Microbiology), Temitope Mercy John (CUA, CUPG Electrical Engineering), Motunrayo
Eniayekan (Kogi State University Law) and Fashion Designer Sonia Jerry-Okondu (FACLA, CUA Architecture)
who is known for her skill in building dresses, constructing handbags and birthing shoes.
After the day’s dinner, the students had a variety night which included dance, drama, bible study, music
presentation and a video session.
Day 5 (May 19):
The day started with a video of Peter Obi’s (Former Governor of Anambra State) speech at the Nigerian-
American Business Forum which held in the U.S. State of Florida in January 2018. Afterwards, the students
had a fun-filled morning with Iruka Omenye (FACLA, CUA Microbiology) – Program Officer at ALDC – who
took them on patriotism. The session was mostly interactive and the students expressed themselves on
why they are angry with Nigeria. Iruka channeled the anger of the students into passion to make a positive
difference in Nigeria. David Arinze (FACLA, CU) spoke with the students on spirituality and its importance
in their everyday life.
At 3pm, 57 FACL students joined a webinar on renewable energy and sustainability organized by Sonma
Okoro, a Texas-based Engineer and Manager at ISNAD-Africa. The webinar had 3 other facilitators from
different parts of the world and students from South Africa. The webinar lasted for about 90 minutes and
left the students with an understanding of renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, career
opportunities in renewable energy and IRENA.
6
At 5:30pm, interested students had a session with Yimika Sowunmi (CUA, CUPG Demography and Social
Statistics) who discussed with the students on exploring income generation through business while
maintaining good academic standing. This session lasted for about 40 minutes.
Day 6 (May 20):
On Sunday, May 20, the students had a closing session which started at 8:30pm. This session was anchored
by the organizer Oluwatosin Noiki and FACL Chaplain Dcns. Idam. The students were given a final charge
and had prayer sessions. The students filled a feed-back form afterwards and LOC came to an end at about
9:45pm.
Chess Competition:
The chess competition ran through the LOC period. 28 SS3 students participated in the competition.
Aweto Egbaoghene David emerged as winner of the chess competition and was presented with a gift at
the school’s assembly session (See Appendix 3 for details).

TESTIMONIES
LOC was a life changing experience for the students and the program ended with a plethora of
testimonies. Some testimonies are presented below (See Appendix 4 for catalogue of testimonies).
+ The students came to me after last night’s session to tell me that they were offended because I didn’t
allow them go home after WAEC, but said that they had now forgiven me because of the LOC. If this LOC
can work here, then it can work anywhere. I am ready to recommend this program to all Faith Academy
Schools nationwide – Dcn. Patrick Nkwoh, Principal FACL
+ A student came to my office crying that she doesn’t want the organizers of LOC to leave. We appreciate
the sacrifice that you have made and pray that God will continue to bless you. We hope that this LOC would
not be the last – Dcns. Abasi, Vice Principal Administration FACL
+ When I heard that Mr. Tosin had brought up the idea of LOC, I was angry because I desperately wanted
to go home. Man, I change my mind. LOC was extremely impactful and enhancing in every aspect. The
academic session by Lesho taught me that I am smart and I can achieve anything I desire to. I also learnt
a lot about how to manage my finances and I also learnt a lot about how to socially survive in a university.
On a normal basis, I have a serious case of LSE [low self-esteem] but trust me, Ebuka trashed it out of my
system. Esther Adeoro taught me all I need to know about relationships. Mrs. Iruka taught me that I am
Nigeria and that I have the power to make Nigeria a better place. Sonia taught me to follow my dreams
and work towards it. LOC is the best thing that happened to me in SS3 and I thank God, chaplaincy,
management, Tosin, Lesho and every other person for that. God bless you all the way. You’ve blessed me.
Thank you – Student in group 20
+ I really learnt a lot from LOC, I am kind of speechless, but all the sessions were very interesting and now
I am looking at University from an entirely different perspective. My life has changed for the better. I really
thank Mr Tosin and Mr Lesho. God bless you guys – Student in group 1
+ I give glory to God for the success of the LOC program because it affected me positively in the aspect of
learning and destroying the spirit of fear. It taught me how not to be afraid of any circumstance that comes
my way in life. It was really impactful and I loved it with all the impactful facilitators. It also taught me
how to manage my resources, create good relationships with people and be highly connected to God, I
really loved the program – Student in group 9
+ Praise God. I am really happy I was part of LOC. I really appreciate God, Mr. Noiki and other persons who
made this program a huge success. During one of the sessions which was on Saturday, I got an inspiration
from God to start a particular business in the university. Indeed, the prayer which Mr. Noiki said came to
pass that my spiritual ears will be opened. Right now, writing this I am crying and weeping for joy and once
again, I am very happy. Thank you Jesus – Alao Oluwanifemi
+ I feel this is the most amazing thing I have seen in my life. It really got me using my brains and thinking
and it brought redirection to my life – Student in group 18
+ Wow!! LOC was wonderful. It changed my life. I feel like I am a good and ready campus student. It made
me to think. I used to feel like a fool but LOC changed my mind. I feel ready to change the world. Thank
you all – Student in group 11

FEEDBACK
The news of LOC spread fast. On the third day of LOC, the Principal of CUSS invited the organizers of LOC
to discuss a replication of LOC at CUSS following feedback emanating from FACL students. Feedback was
thereafter taken from FACL students for reporting. 208 feedback forms (92 percent of set) were turned in
for analysis. Feedback percentages were estimated based on number of entries. See Appendix 5 for
sample of feedback form.
99 percent of students indicated that LOC was fun, interactive and impactful. Figure 1 shows the ratings
for each day of LOC. Day 3 (See Table 2) was rated excellent by 97 percent of the students. On average,
the 5 days of LOC were rated excellent by nearly 70 percent of students.
Table 2: Theme for Each LOC Day
THEME
Day 1 Attaining Academic Excellence in Higher Institution Day 2 Financial Intelligence for College Students Day 3 Building Social Skills for Higher Institution Day 4 Patriotism and Nationalization Day 5 The Importance of Spirituality in Higher Institution
The students ranked the seven different facilitators shown in Figure 2C. 99 percent of students rated one
of the facilitators excellent; above all, some of the sessions and facilitators were most enjoyed (See Figure
2A). The presentations by FACLA were also rated with excellent ranking going as high as 90 percent (See
Figure 2D).
97 percent of students indicated that they would recommend LOC to others students and schools. The
others jokingly indicated on their forms that they would not recommend LOC to other students because
they want LOC to happen only in their school. Other metrics are presented in Appendix 5.

CONCLUSION
The 2018 FACL LOC started 8:30am on May 15 and ended at 9:45pm on May 20, 2018. The program was
impactful and filled with inspiring testimonies and positive feedback. Big thanks to you and may God
continue to strengthen you. We thank all the SS3 students for active participation, and more especially,
the members of group seven who emerged with the highest score and were presented with gifts.
We acknowledge and thank the Principal of FACL, Dcn. Patrick Nkwoh; the Vice Principal Administration,
Dcns. Abasi; the Vice Principal Academics, Mr. Ogunbunmi Isaac; the Chaplain of FACL, Dcns Idam, and
the Assistant Chaplain, Mr. Voke Vowa: who made entry into FACL hitch free and provided everything that
was needed for successful implementation of LOC. The organizers thank the teachers at FACL who came
around to assist with managing the students before and during the program.
We greatly appreciate all contributors to the program who were sourced from FACLA, CUA and from
outside Canaanland. The second year master’s students from CU came to interact with students of FACL
despite being in the middle of their thesis submission and presentation. Final year students made time
out from their TTG program to come and facilitate and share their experiences with the students. It goes
without saying that everyone made significant sacrifice to be present at LOC and we are thankful for their
time and effort.
Also, we acknowledge the Chairperson of CTF, Oluwatosin Noiki who took the step to initiate LOC and was
used by God to bring the program into actualization.
All Glory to God, Mover of Men and Mountains.
SIGNED,
Leye Sowunmi

in the university. Iruka made me understand that I am Nigeria and Nigeria is me. Joys Alabi made me plan
my budget and also gave me ideas on how to make money in the university. Lesho has seriously been a
blessing, in his quotes, talks, chess everything. To be sincere, he is one in a million. Tosin Noiki made me
understand the power of separation and made me understand that I can do what I set my mind to do. But
most of all LOC has been a blessing, LOC has made me picture my self-featuring in my future. Made me
plan ahead of time, increased me mentally, spiritually, financially and academically. I can proudly say I am

+ When I heard that Mr. Tosin had brought up the idea of LOC, I was angry because I desperately wanted
to go home. Man, I change my mind. LOC was extremely impactful and enhancing in every aspect. The
academic session by Mr. Lesho taught me that I am smart and I can achieve anything I desire to. I also
learnt a lot about how to manage my finances and I also learnt a lot about how to socially survive in a
university. On a normal basis, I have a serious case of LSE [low self-esteem] but trust me, Ebuka trashed it
out of my system. Esther Adeoro taught me all I need to know about relationships. Mrs Iruka taught me
that I am Nigeria and that I have the power to make Nigeria a better place. Sonia taught me to follow my
dreams and work towards it. LOC is the best thing that happened to me in SS3 and I thank God, chaplaincy,
