Impression on JFA’s Project of Heart “Mr. Dream”
※JFA=Japan Football Association
~What is “JFA’s Project of Heart”?~
JFA’s Project of Heart is a project launched by Japan Football Association in February 2006
to contribute to the physical and mental growth of children. In this project JFA dispatches
former national football players of Japan, J-League Players, Nadeshiko Women’s League
Players, JFL, F-League Players, OB/OG and players of other sports to elementary schools as
called “Mr. Dream” or “Ms. Dream” of the classroom for teaching with their cooperation. In
the classroom they teach the importance of not only fair play spirit and mutual help but dream.
Mr. or Ms. Dream discusses it with the children for deeper understanding. Special class was
provided for JENESYS Football Team Players visiting Japan.
※ Excerpt from JFA Official Site http://www.yumesen.jp
*”Dream Sheet” ・・・Write an objective, ”I want to be AA and do BB ” and what kind of efforts
you are to make for that objective.
*”A few Words Sheet” ・・・Write your impression after the class.
●Cambodian Team and Mr. Tsuyoshi Kitazawa
“Dream Sheet”:
・ I want to be a football player and help our people. I have played and practiced football
almost everyday since I was an elementary school student. In future I will become a
National Football Player and make younger generation of Cambodia understand football
well and nurture young football players.
・ I want to be a high level football player and teach football to Cambodian young children. To
master techniques it is necessary to observe daily training program and strict time
management for the training. Also it
is important for team mates to help
each other.
・ I want to be a famous football player
and nurture the next generation of
Cambodian football players. To be a
famous football player it is necessary
to practice hard and learn the
techniques of other excellent players. Also it is necessary to take up coach’s advices and
strengthen my weak points.
”A few Words Sheet”:
・ In this class I could understand Mr. Dream’s own life. I want to contribute to football in
Cambodia and teach how to play football to Cambodian children in the future.
・ Today’s class was really wonderful. All of Mr. Dream’s stories still remain in the center of
my heart. I want to be a famous player like Mr. Dream in the future.
●Laotian Team and Mr. Yasuyuki Moriyama
“Dream Sheet”:
・ Becoming a prominent professional football player, I want to contribute to the
development of my country, Laos. I will keep on practicing as hard as possible to play
in a major league team in Asia or Europe. I also want to be a coach.
・ I want to become a football player and play in England for the development of my
country. I will raise my level of skills, listen attentively to other’s advices and study
hard to become a professional league player. I will be a polite and well-mannered man,
obeying my father, mother and teachers. I will not give up even if there should be any
difficulties.
・ I want to engage myself in business related to football to develop the sport of football
by becoming an excellent football player. There is, however, no professional league in
Laos unlike other countries. I will keep on toughening my body so that I may be able to
play in variety of Asian countries.
”A few Words Sheet”:
・ I was moved very much to see Mr.
Dream and hear him talk about his
life. Listening to his story, I came
to be convinced to play football
further and to become a
prominent professional football
player. Mr. Dream’s story excited
me. I want to see him again.
・ I want to be a football player like
Mr. Dream, who practiced football hard and never gave up even when he suffered an
injury. We learned to keep it up when we face difficulties in life. I envy Mr. Dream, who
was chosen as National Team member and a professional football player. We want to
be better players than Mr. Dream. Mr. Dream, please remember our names. We will
definitely make our dream come true.
・ As I learned from Mr. Dream, I came to have my clear vision of my life. I decided to play
football hard for the time to come. My strong determination and hope to the life
ballooned when I mapped out my life plan. I would like to lead well-disciplined life and
take care of myself. I was moved by the sport called football to hear you talk about it.
I want Mr. Dream to come to Laos and teach football to our young athletes for the
development of Laos and our sports.
●Myanmar Team and Mr. Jun Ideguchi
“Dream Sheet”:
・ I want to present a house to my family by becoming a world-famous football player. I will
do my very best without sparing time to make my dream come true by changing my weak
points to strong points. I will listen to Manager’s and Coach’s instructions and practice.
・ I want to make my parents happy by becoming a famous player. I will make all my efforts
and have enough perseverance. I will do my best, listening to advices of manager and
coach. I will keep up even if I may fail.
・ I want to please and make my parents happy by becoming a professional football player. To
this end I will spare neither time nor efforts. I will memorize instructions of Manager and
Coach and practice regularly based on my training program. I will do my best to overcome
my weak points and enhance strong points.
”A few Words Sheet”:
・ I understood that nothing will
materialize without doing. We also
understood that if we make efforts,
our dream will come true. We now
know the meaning of making efforts.
・ In this class I learned that we must do
as much as possible until we
accomplish what is set as a target.
We also learned that we must pay the
price to obtain what we want. Nothing will be achieved unless we set a target and start
working.
・ I learned the followings from Mr. Dream to make our dreams come true:
To put down the instructions of Manager and Coach
To make efforts without giving up
To provide time separately for individual practice in addition to team practice
To find out our own weak points
To make efforts to improve our weak points
And to be able to study academic subjects as well as practice football at the same time
●Thai Team and Mr. Yasuyuki Moriyama
“Dream Sheet”:
・ I want to be recognized by all the people by becoming a professional football player. To
achieve this objective I will practice more eagerly with enthusiasm. I will try all the
methods to make my dream come true.
・ I want to become a professional football player and a national team player, and lead our
team to the World Cup. I will practice enthusiastically and perseverantly to make this
happen. I will make a strong body by eating vegetable and fruits.
・ I want to be a Thai national
team member to lead our team
to the World Cup. To achieve
this I will make a strong body. I
will also improve mental
strength to fight against
overseas teams. I will always
take care of myself.
”A few Words Sheet”:
・ This class taught us why we played football and that we should practice more to become
professional football players. Mr. Dream said that even though there are failures in life, we
should overcome them. I want to be a player like Mr. Dream. I want to be recognized by
many.
・ I understood life experiences of Mr. Dream very well. I still remember when Mr. Dream said,
“You do not need to think about football always” and “Even if you should fail, it would be
OK as long as you can challenge again.”
・ I may be disappointed by football. But I will never withdraw like Mr. Dream. There can be
many failures and difficulties in football. Mr. Dream taught me how to practice hard and
listen to coach attentively.
●Vietnamese Team and Mr. Jun Ideguchi
“Dream Sheet”:
・ I want to become a professional football player, own a high-rise condominium building
and build a happy family, marrying and begetting children. To make this happen I will
practice harder and understand better what coach tells me. I also further strengthen
my strong points.
・ I want to be a professional football player, earn much money and help my family. To
make this dream come true, I will increase the number of liftings and try to control the
ball at my own will. By enhancing team work I would like to score many goals to
contribute to the victory of my team.
・ I want to become a professional
football player and help my
parents. To make this dream
come true, I am determined to
overcome hardships by reminding
me of my dream when I find it
difficult to continue while
practicing. I would like to hone my
skills of football and enhance my
strong points.
”A few Words Sheet”:
・ Mr. Dream’s talk solidified my determination of becoming a professional player. I want
to work for my home town and country.
・ Mr. Dream has a strong will and determination. He talked about his own failures which
seemed difficult to talk about. I came to know that such a man with strong
determinations can succeed in life.
・ I found new discoveries when I heard Mr. Dream speak. There will no impossibility as
long as we have a determination.

Impressions by Japanese Young Players
~Impressions by Japan U-15 National Team Players (Abridged)~
○ I could communicate with a variety of players from five countries in this programme. There
was one terrific thing among other things. That was a greeting after the match. Shaking hands
firmly or bowing with two palms put together. I thought I must learn it from them. It was a really
good experience as I could talk with them in the corridor of J-village or other places.
○ This programme was very good to me. It was one of rare chances to communicate with Asian
Players. As I met them I found something in them which Japanese do not have. When they
make an eye contact at the corridor, they smiled to us. I wish I could do that to the people
whom I have not known. All people from those countries enjoyed playing football. It was a
wonderful time to play football together. This programme gave me a chance to experience
what otherwise cannot be experienced.
○ When I was told that we would have friendly matches with players from five Mekong countries,
I wondered if we could make it as we would be unable to communicate with each other in the
beginning. When we met each other, we found all of them very friendly. Japanese players did
not memorize their languages but they talked to us in Japanese like “Konnichiwa”, “Arigato”
which might have been unfamiliar to them. When we met on the corridor they gave us
souvenirs. I was moved by the warmth of their heart.
○ I could not communicate well with players from five Mekong countries. But when we were
together in Dining Hall or Bath Room we could exchange greetings. This was my first
experience to communicate with foreigners but it was really good experience.
○ Since I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner with the players from 5 Mekong countries and took
bath together, I felt very familiar to them.
○ It was a great experience to eat meals together with players from 5 countries, take photos
together which cannot be done otherwise ordinarily. As I found them smiling always, I wanted
to keep smiling, too. If there are such chances I would communicate with people from many
countries. This was really enjoyable five days.
○ When we met at the corridor, any player from any country greeted to each other. When we
happened to be in the large bath room, we enjoyed splashing water to each other.
○ I was really enjoyed in this programme. Because I could experience a rare occasion of
communicating using gestures when we wanted to make ourselves understood each other. It
was good to know that the foreign players were broadminded.
○ What pleased me most was that whenever they found us on the passage they greeted me.
They were well-mannered. I learned from it. As they were friendly, it was easy for me to
communicate.
○ Since I have never talked with foreigners before, I did not talk to them in the beginning. But
players from Mekong countries talked to me and offered their hands to me, so it was easy to
communicate. What surprised me most was they greeted me whenever they met me. It was a
great experience to communicate with foreign people.
○ I could have an exchange of greeting with foreigners for the first time. I couldn’t talk with
them but we could communicate through facial expressions and simple Japanese words. All of
them were kind and nice people. The experience of communicating with foreigners was really
good.
○ I participated in this programme and had a good experience of playing football and living
together with players from a variety of countries. They winked to me whenever we came
across at the passages. In the large bath room we enjoyed splashing cold water to each other.
I treasure my experiences.
○ The five countries with which we had friendly matches this time were the countries I have
never contacted before. Whenever they meet me, they greeted to me with smiles, which eased
my mind. I would like to be friendly to foreigners when I have a chance next time using what I
learned this time.
~Impression Statement of JFA Academy Player Fukushima, (Abridged)~
※ He participated in Matches with Thai and Vietnam
○ I participated in friendly matches with Thai and Vietnam which taught me something which
lacked in us. One of them was “Single-mindedness”. We thought we did play single-mindedly.
But players from Thailand and Vietnam played more single-mindedly than us. As we learned it
from them, I want to show more single-mindedness in the coming matches. Besides the
matches I positively went to foreign players to talk with them. There were players who could
speak neither Japanese nor English with whom I tried to communicate with body languages. I
would like to do what I should do properly when I need to communicate with people from
foreign countries.
○ What I noticed from friendly matches this time was that players of any country tried to
communicate showing gestures when they were talked to and found it impossible to speak in
languages. When I went abroad and was talked to, I was at a loss what to say since I could not
understand their language. I will try to communicate more with gestures with foreigners even
though we may not be able to talk in their language. Next I learned the saying, “Never forget
the ideals with which you started out” from the opponent team physically. When we lose the
ball, we must get back the ball. I would like to keep on playing football without forgetting them.
I want to value each day without forgetting what I found today.
~Impression Statement from J-Village Sports Club Players (abstract)~
※ Friendly Match against Cambodia
○ I have two pieces of impression as we had a match against Cambodian players. The first one is
“Judgement”. As Cambodian players do not judge after receiving a ball, but instead they are
thinking while the ball is being passed, their play is fast and their attitude of heading toward
the goal is very good. The second one is “Greetings” and “Fair Play”. They memorized
Japanese expressions like “Arigato” (Thank you) and “Sayonara” (Good-bye) in Japanese.
Furthermore, when a Cambodian player knocked a Japanese player down, the former offered a
hand. I could learn greetings and fair play as well as technical aspects like speed and power of
football through the friendly matches.
○ This was my first experience of football match with foreign team. I have been looking forward
to the match, wondering what kind of team Cambodian team is, right after I was told by our
coach that we would have a match with Cambodia. On the day I entered for the latter half as
FW with absolute determination to score a goal. But our team was defeated by 0-2.
The match was satisfactory to me. After the match we took photos with Cambodian players. I
will never forget this friendly match as long as I live.
○ When I heard that we would have a match with Cambodia, The first words uttered from my
mouth were “We are lucky. We’ll make it.” On the day I could neither wait nor think anything
other than football in school. Cambodian players were speedy and skillful in passing. They
defeated us. I was really disappointed when I was changed due to my misplay during the match.
I regret I could not participate in this special match with Cambodia for the full period. We had
photo session with Cambodian players and became friends. I would like to make another
match.
○ I came to know wonderfulness of football again when we had a match against Cambodian
players. Languages and life styles are all different but we could get relaxed after the match
was over by shaking hands and taking photos. It was a lot of fun.
○ Cambodian players were harsh in the
pitch but once they are out of the pitch
they became well-mannered and friendly.
They were really friendly. This was my
first experience of an international match
which taught me a lot of things.
○ When I was told we would have a match with Cambodia, I was a little concerned. I wondered
what they are like and what language they speak. As the match started, Cambodian players
were coached in incomprehensible language which made me feel strange. It was a really good
experience of playing a match with other than Japanese teams.
○ I have never played football for a match against foreign players since I started football. This
international friendly match was a precious experience to me as a junior high school student.
○ I was surprised to hear we would make a match against Cambodia as I have never played with
foreign players. As I came to know after the match, Cambodian players cheerfully greeted us
and they were well-mannered. When we made an eye contact or we passed before each other,
Cambodian players greeted us however many times we met. It taught me a lot as they had a
spirit of fair play.
○ I played football with Cambodian boys for the first time. I was concerned about what kind of
football they would play, how strong they were, etc. Once the match started, it puzzled me
that the language they use was completely different from ours. I would like to play football with
Cambodian friends again in the future.
Share knowledge and experience.
For our world. For the future
