replacing lightship battery
DESCRIPTION
How to replace the battery in your Sollight LighshipTRANSCRIPT
1. You will need a #10 torx driver to remove the screws from the LightShip. A standard slot screw
driver is also handy.
2. Remove the two (2) torx screws from the underside of the LightShip.
3. Slowly and carefully pry the outer gray polycarbonate case from the solar panel assembly. This is sealed with a silicone O‐ring so it may be very snug. You can insert the torx driver into
the assembly hole to help with this.
4. Remove the two torx screws from the reflector.
5. Slowly ease the LED and reflector assembly away from the battery compartment being very careful not to pull on the wires or solder connections.
6. Remove the battery. Using the slot screw driver to pop one end out makes this easy.
7. If the battery seems loose, the metal terminals on either end of the battery compartment may need to be bent slightly so that they make a good connection
with the new battery. Use a pointed knife, small screwdriver or needle-nose pliers to bend the
terminals inwards.
8. Insert the new rechargeable AA battery, again being careful not to disturb the wires. [Be sure the +
and - ends are in the correct position.]
9. Replace the LED reflector assembly back onto the solar panel/battery compartment. Be sure that the screw bosses line up with the screw holes exactly and that they don’t pinch or strain any of the wires. This may take some careful attention.
10. Screw the reflector into the battery compartment.
11. Before putting the cover back on, take the assembly into a dark place and be sure that it works. It must be totally dark or the internal light sensor will keep the LEDs from lighting. If they do not light, take the
assembly back apart and be sure the battery is, a) a good one; b) in the correct way with the positive terminal pointing in the right direction; c) properly seated in the battery compartment; d) none of the wires has
come loose.
12. Ease the case back onto the assembly, working it in a circular direction. Adding a tiny bit of grease to
the rim can help with this.
