I hope you’ll join Emily and me in subscribing to the exceptional series of plays staged this season by the University’s Resident Ensemble Players (REP).

The REP is an enormous asset to the University, to Delaware and the region – a world-class professional acting company all our own. The

REP creates a vital space for important ideas, opinions, and perspectives to flourish, and showcases the extraordinary power of art and creative expression.

I know you’ll enjoy not only the productions but also the terrific conversations they spark long after the curtain drops. I look forward to seeing you at the theatre.

Patrick T. Harker President

REP’s season offers a year of exceptional scope and variety that includes one of the funniest plays ever written, an inspiring historical drama that will bring tears to your eyes and stir your soul, a dark comedy that delights and surprises, one of the greatest melodramas of all time, and a classic American play that is shockingly contemporary and more pertinent than ever before.

This season is a chance to be dazzled by the talent, depth, and virtuosity of the REP acting company as each of these brilliant actors creates a different human being (or, in some cases two or three) in each play. Also, REP audiences this year will enjoy the radiant creativity of guest artists that include some of America’s most admired directors and designers – artists whose work on Broadway and in leading theatres all over the country has them in constant demand.

And, what a bargain! Our commitment to affordable ticket prices means that you can have five magnificent REP theatre experiences for less than the price of a single Broadway ticket (and for far less than ticket prices at any professional theatre in the region).

the little foxesStealing, deceiving, cheating, and betraying. And that’s just before breakfast. Acclaimed an instant hit at its premiere, this tale of unbridled greed has thrilled audiences all over the world and has never been more timely. Meet the Hubbard family –devious and greedy Ben, haughty and cruel Oscar; and the wickedly glamorous Regina – as they plot to outwit and outmaneuver one another in their efforts to increase their wealth by millions of dollars, no matter what the cost to their lives and the lives of others.

noises offThe new York Times critic Frank Rich called nOISES OFF “the funniest play written in my lifetime.”

Frayn’s brilliantly riotous romp cleverly follows both the backstage antics and onstage escapades of a woefully wretched theatre troupe attempting to perform a sex comedy called “nothing On.” Flubbed lines, missed cues, overblown egos, dropped trousers and the wonderful REP acting company deliver a madcap melee of theatrical shenanigans that will have you grasping your sides and gasping for air!

the cRiPPle of inishmaanAnd…AcTIOn! Word arrives on the Irish isle of Inishmaan that a famed Hollywood director is coming to a neighboring island to shoot a film. cripple Billy, a bored and lonely orphan being raised by his eccentric aunties, would give anything to escape his tedious life by snagging a role in the movie. When Billy lands a screen test, the oddball citizens of Inishmaan mount a heartbreakingly hilarious front of resistance, bursting with dark madcap humor and touching devotion. Tony Award-winning McDonagh has created a masterpiece that is by turns quirky, sincere, and scathingly funny.

ouR countRy’s goodAn exciting and deeply moving tale of passion and redemption. In the early days of the settlement of Australia by British prisoners, supplies grow short and hope dwindles. A British lieutenant – convinced that art can revitalize and restore the human spirit – decides to raise morale by staging a comedy using the illiterate prisoners as actors. The project meets with powerful opposition from other officers as opening night nears and the lieutenant and his pitiful company of misfits struggle to ready the play. Our Country’s Good is a poignant love story and a stirring testament to the redeeming force of human creativity.

the skin of ouR teeth“It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.” -R.E.M.

Wilder’s groundbreaking, Pulitzer Prize-winning satire is a wild and raucous tour of humanity through the ages. george Antrobus (inventor of the wheel), his devoted family, and his saucy maid find themselves facing one spectacular disaster after another – climate change, war, flood, famine, and economic collapse. From woolly mammoths to an Atlantic city beauty contest to the aftermath of global war, extinction and survival race to the finish line in a joyous, inspiring, and spectacular celebration of humanity’s resilience. Wildly entertaining, this American classic is shockingly contemporary and more pertinent than ever before.
