Renison ELI supports more than 1000 students from 35 countries

each year in achieving their goals.

APPLICATION AND REGISTRATION PROCESSYou must be 17 years of age or older to study at Renison ELI.

1. Apply online at uwaterloo.ca/eli.

2. Wait for a response by email from an ELI staff member, with instructions on next steps.

3. Submit your application fee and $300 tuition deposit (both non-refundable).

4. Receive a letter of admission to your English language program and apply for your visa (if applicable).

5. Pay the remainder of your fees two weeks before the start of your program.

RENISON ELI The Renison English Language Institute (Renison ELI) provides professional language instruction to students who want to build their skills and confidence in speaking and writing in English. Our English Language Centre offers a variety of non-credit language programs for students who are not enrolled at the University of Waterloo.

Our programs support students who want to:

» Prepare for undergraduate or graduate studies in a Canadian university.

» Meet the English language admission requirements for the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University.

» Study English in an academic university environment for 1 month to 1 year.

» Experience Canada in the summer, make friends from around the world, and improve their English communication skills.

OUR PROGRAMS

ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS (EFAS) EFAS offers 20–25 hours a week of academic listening, speaking, reading, and writing instruction. The program’s objective is to help students succeed in their studies at universities where English is the language of research and instruction. EFAS has four levels, from low intermediate to advanced.

Successful completion of the advanced level (EFAS Level 400) satisfies the University of Waterloo’s English Language Requirement for admission to all undergraduate and graduate programs.

GENERAL ENGLISH AT RENISON (GEAR)GEAR is an intensive short-term program, focused on developing your general English communication skills. Students receive 20 hours of English classes per week in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar. The GEAR program’s flexible enrolment and multiple levels from beginner to advanced, allow students to enroll from 4 weeks to 20 weeks, with each level taking 4 weeks to complete. Your language learning experience is enhanced with classes on Canadian culture, helping you develop your cross-cultural communication skills.

ENGLISH FOR SUCCESS (EFS)Summer is a great time to visit Canada — and a great time to improve your English skills!

EFS combines 25 hours of English instruction each week with a wide variety of social and recreational activities designed to get you out of the classroom and using your English skills. You’ll improve your English, make new friends, and see some of the best that Canada has to offer.
