Case Study
O G L P R O J E C T M A N A G E M E N T S O L U T I O N SHigh Rise Construction Projects
B A C K G R O U N D One of Australia’s largest Construction Companies “Probuild Constructions Australia” awarded One Global Logistics their largest di-
rect supply / direct procurement contracts thus far during 2018.
The project was based in Melbourne’s CB, over 2 high rise Towers being built at the same time, named “West Side Place stage 1”
comprising of 1135 x 40’HC over 2 different Unitized Curtain Wall Systems from 2 suppliers located in China.
Tower 1 was 68 levels
Tower 1 was 72 levels
The import, warehousing and delivery phase was over 19 months.
The shipping term was originally CIF, however after we introduced our long-term China partner it was decided that some part of the
ocean freight was handed over the “OGL” to manage space bookings under FOB due to our large market position in China.
C U S T O M E R C H A L L E N G E S Imports of this scale, particularly transporting sensitive and fragile cargo for a highly sensitive and demanding client presented a
range of challenges to the logistics provider, builders, installers and owner.
Both Towers were located in the main street in Melbourne’s downtown CBD district with tight delivery windows due to tower crane
lifts for glass façade.
The delivery program was on average 40-60 x 40’ HC per week.
The scale and volume of cargo required a high level of overall project management, industry knowledge and visibility for containers
at origin prebooked, departed, arrived and glass panels required on site on a certain day and time window.

S O L U T I O N S P R O V I D E D A N D VA L U E A D D E D :
» After the did was awarded, The M.D. James Sparke conducted an
immediate overseas visit to both suppliers based in South China to
understand the production phase, material packing, documentation,
documentation capture, customs document, shipping lines use ,
container detention agreements, shipping line and / or freight
forwarders nominated to participate
» After the visit an overall “initial” risk management assessment was
conducted with the builder on supply chain lead times, packaging, type
of packing, asbestos risk, customs compliance, materials handling risk,
data loggers affixed to each panel
» After the final production shipping plan was locked in a follow up
meeting with the builder, site teams for tower 1 & 2 were staged
separately along with the installers to create a method of delivery
statement, documentation, call up of panels /stillages, most efficient
delivery windows to avoid waiting times, safety but accommodate the
installer teams expectations
» Multiple stakeholders have to be working collaboratively
» It was decided a weekly inventory report would be created to include
pre and post shipping and container movements to help in workforce
requirements
» After 20 months working with key stakeholders the delivery package was
successfully completed on time and on budget with minimal variations
and just one panel was found broken upon delivery.
