A MINISTRY OF FELLOWSHIP BIBLE CHURCH

Page 2: Renew Brochure 2013

We all need to be renewed ...

We are all broken in some way—spiritually, physically, emotionally, and relationally. We all suffer because of the effects of the Fall. That suffering can be the consequence of our own sin, the sin of someone else, or from living in a world still under the curse of sickness and death. And it’s all beyond our ability to fix.

It is impossible for us to fix what is broken in us, no matter how hard we try. But there is hope! Through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, God is unfolding His gracious plan to renew his creation (including each one of us). Lasting change—which is what renewal is—can only occur as a result of God’s grace at work in our lives. This is why we need the Gospel.

Yet we are not bystanders in the renewal process. God will use every experience in our lives—the good and the bad—to renew us and to transform us as followers of Jesus. Our role is to believe that through the Gospel, God provides everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).

Join us at Fellowship’s Little Rock campus every Tuesday at 6:30pm for Renew. You’ll experience grace-dependent discipleship in these four areas of growth:

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being

renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison as we look not

to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen.

(2 Corinthians 4:16,17 ESV)

Childcare is provided by registration, and meals are available for purchase prior to our start in the Warehouse. Renew is a ministry open to everyone—because we are all broken in some fashion.

Our personal struggles are not issues to merely “fix” or “get over.” They are the very things that God uses to move us to dependence upon Him; they are refining fires that He uses to conform us to the image of His Son. Personal Renewal provides a healthy, authentic space to interact with others and God in this process of grace-empowered transformation.

Personal Renewal Discussion Groups* are where you begin the path of personal renewal. Group members interact around the essentials of renewal and help one another apply those essentials to struggles they are encountering. These struggles include our attempt to avoid pain or to avoid facing the sins committed against us or sins we commit against others.

Personal Renewal Study Groups* use a de-fined curriculum to work more systematically along the path of renewal. Group members are encouraged to participate in healthy self-examination, confession, repentance, restora-tion of relationships with God and others, and assisting others in this process.*All of our groups are gender-based, which allows for a greater degree of transparency.

Marriage is one of the most important contexts God will use in our discipleship. We all experi-ence some level of struggle in our marriage, and God intends to use that struggle to transform us to more clearly reflect the image of His Son and our marriage to reflect the relationship be-tween Christ and His Bride, the Church.

Marriage Renewal is for couples that want to enrich their marriage, as well as for couples whose marriage is in crisis or has chronically struggled. It isn’t a “class” or quick fix. Marriage Renewal focuses on discipleship to Jesus Christ that leads to life transformation, which can re-sult in oneness in marriage. We do this in small groups that use curriculum that typically takes four to six months.

After the Locusts is a care group for women who have experienced the betrayal of a hus-band’s persistent use of pornography or his marriage infidelity. Trusting God in the midst of this pain means believing that His purpose is greater than our loss. Discipleship is allowing God by His grace to redeem our losses as He transforms us for His glory.

DivorceCare small groups meet for 13 weeks to experience discipleship to Jesus Christ in the midst of this struggle. Each session includes a video seminar featuring top authorities on di-vorce recovery, followed by group interaction about the video and caring for one another.

God designed the family as a key vehicle for discipleship. However, like every other human institution since the Fall, family has suffered consequences of sin and death. Family Renewal groups offer means of grace and discipleship for spiritual and relational transformation.

Thrive Foster/Adoption groups provide disci-pleship for those who care about the orphan. These groups are composed of those who are actually fostering or have adopted and for those who have a heart to help.

GriefShare is a 13-week support group for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one. Each session includes a video seminar featuring expe-rienced experts on grief, dramatic reenactments and real-life stories of people who have experi-enced losses, followed by group discussion.

Military Care focuses on discipleship in the context of the military. If you have served or are currently serving in any of the military branch-es or are a family member of someone who is serving, this group may be a great fit for you. If you have a heart to support military families, you would be welcome.

CancerEMS (Education, Ministry, and Service)provides support and discipleship to those who are battling or have battled cancer and to their caregivers.

Parents of Prodigals is a discipleship group for those who are struggling with teen and adult children who are making poor life decisions.

The Bible contains more than 2350 verses deal-ing with money and possessions, and 15% of ev-erything Jesus said had to do with it. Our choic-es with our money say the most about where our affections really are. Discipleship, therefore, must reflect God’s design for dealing with mon-ey and possessions.

Financial Peace University (FPU) is a nine-week course, developed by Dave Ramsey, that teach-es God’s ways of handling money. Through vid-eo teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to: get rid of debt; manage your money; save and give wisely; plan cash flow; consider the influence of marketing; and more. The curriculum below can be used in a Care D Group format for moving deeper into identifying our “idola-try” in the area of money and possessions and practi-cally dealing with it.

Navigating Your Finances God’s Way, devel-oped by Compass, is a nine-week small group experience that teaches God’s perspective of managing money and possessions. It provides practical applications for handling finances, and really gets to the heart of the matter—daily liv-ing in today’s economy.

Money & Marriage God’s Way, a Compass re-source, is a six-week small group experience that reveals how God intends married couples to use managing their finances—even challeng-es or crises with money—to strengthen their marital relationship, rather than straining it. This study can benefit any couple, from newly mar-ried to empty nesters.
