From the beginning, we at Rendezvous Farms set an ambitious course for our purebred Simmental operations. We wanted to breed quality first and secondly grow the numbers of our yearling sale bulls for our clientele to choose from. We have worked relentlessly to cre-ate an elite breeding program, steadfastly introducing to our clientele brand new bloodlines for use in their herds. We are dedicated towards our clients’ success.

Rendezvous Farms pedigreed cattle operations began with the herd building plans of my father, Laurent. Early on, Dad invested decades of building and nurturing his pedigreed herds. Right from the start, my father pledged to say yes to opportunities in developing specialized breeding. Dad made his pedigreed herds his passion project. It was never a secret, but that specific disciplined strategy of my father’s original ideas of always buying high quality herd sires for his pure-bred herds that began over 71 years ago helped give Rendezvous Farms those abilities towards today’s execution of our genetic plan of attack. He was the beginning of Rendezvous Farms’ purebred livestock bond between strategy and results. For that, my sons and I wish to thank him publicly.

I’ve followed in his footsteps also believing strategy gets you into the game, but execution is the game. At Rendezvous we don’t fear change – we embrace it. Gerald and David have continued to build up the existing Rendezvous Simmental herd upon their own personal ambitions and drive for self-development. They don’t waste energy in conflict and negativity, but rather use their energies to shape and develop their undertakings. They remind Pauline and me that learning and development requires conscious attention, regular reflection, and then acting with an open mind at embracing risk. This is the essence of Gerald and David’s entrepreneurial spirit. They feel motivated and committed to giving 100% of themselves to achieving their goals.

Therefore, after many years in the Simmental breed, we are in a position of offering to our customers,our valued partners, a collec-tion of powerful yearling bulls alongside a selected group of open purebred females ready to breed this spring. Folks, in the raising of livestock it’s all about the hidden benefits of time for unlocking those hidden profits. Time is the friend of the powerful herdsire, and the enemy of the mediocre. Rendezvous’ always believed top herdsires purchased for our herds made that huge financial difference from reaping a profit or of booking a loss.

All our bulls and females selling in our Holiday-Monday Sale are in a sense uniquely manufactured by Rendezvous Farms. We are proud that we at Rendezvous exclusively own all of our herd-bull battery: there are neither bull partnerships at Rendezvous nor any usage of someone else’s A.I. bulls. We buy our own herdsires and then use them heavily because we have faith in the herdsires we purchase.

Remember that as we approach our Holiday-Monday Bull Sale, all catalogued animals may be inspected, studied, and if needed, viewed at the main Rendezvous yard or at Myles Masson’s Ste. Delivery Terms:

Option A: Bull(s) will be delivered free of charge within 350 kms or to the nearest Canada/US border crossing. We will do our best to get them to your yard, however, at times, it may be required to meet at central locations. Delivery will be as soon as possible after the sale at the buyer’s risk and the seller’s convenience. Buyers must insure their bull(s) while being cared for at Rendezvous Farms. Heifers to be picked up on sale day, unless other arrangements have been made. We can assist the purchaser on coordinating transportation.

Herd Health and Fertility: All sale cattle have been treated twice with Ivomec are on the Pfizer Gold Program: Bovi-Shield Gold 5, One Shot & Ultrabac7/Somubac. InForce was also given as calves. All sale cattle were vaccinated for foot rot with Fusoguard. All bulls will be examined, scrotal measured, semen tested & palpated by a licensed veterinarian prior to the sale.

Rendezvous Farms, operated by the Maguet Families, as many of you already know, is a large mixed farming operation based in the highly productive soils in the Ste. Rose area. The large expanding grain farm keeps this multi-generational family busy along with the operation of a 275 head registered Simmental cowherd. This large cowherd, by papered status, are the many matrons that the bull sale finalists are sorted from. That’s a bonus knowing that these bulls have been picked out of a volume group of cows such as this.

But it takes bull power to sire such a strong high volume group such as this and the continuous search for herd sires is taken very seriously by “Rendezvous”. So serious in fact that NOT ONE bull in the sale is sired by an “off the shelf A.I. sire”! The man hours and monetary value input to these paternal powers is impressive!

I really need to “brag on” the heifer offering this year. They are by far the best group of replacements that have ever been offered at this annual sale. Again another testament to the strength and depths of the cowherd to be able to let this quality calibre be released.

The people behind the cattle are very professional to deal with and treat this as much as a business as any I know. Agriculture is their sole source of income and they work hard at doing the best job they can. These are great values to know when buying you next herdbulls and/or females.

After losing the IPU Red Caesar 11U bull after only two calf crops, we ended up keeping a son of his, just hoping that he would do what his father did, which was being our main heifer bull. After the first five calves were born, we knew that Caesar 584 would become a permanent fixture at the ranch. A good herd bull always breeds better than himself, point in case is with this Caesar line. Every generation seems to impress us more and more. The calves from Caesar 584 are small at birth, but turn into curve bending growth machines. When touring people in the herd sire pasture, a lot of folks seem to gravitate towards this young herd sire. To make things even better, Caesar 584 is also homozygous polled.

Seldom have we seen a bull with so much depth of body as what Trigger displays. A naturally easy keeping, fleshy type bull, we’ve worked him hard since we’ve owned him and yet every fall he’s in tip top condition. Trigger was the lead off and high selling bull at the Herdmaster’s 2012 Bull Sale where we purchased him for $26,000. Glen Maxwell stated that this was the best red bull they had raised and coming from Glen, we don’t take that lightly. Trigger’s style, thickness, flesh and body frame is what we’ve been looking for. Homozygous polled as well, we’ve had numerous offers from semen companies and individuals to purchase semen or shares in Trigger. We feel the best way to get a piece of the pie is by owning a direct son as they are developing into tremendous herdbull prospects.

Hummer 217U has turned out to be one heck of a breeding bull. His sons and daughters are the kind of cattle that are so right for the times. His sire is the $38,000 Wheatland Red Hum-mer 608S who was purchased by Double Bar D and Swan Lake. The dam is a tremendous R Plus Red Ribeye cow who goes back to LaBatte’s famed IPU Red Pocahontas 105L cow. The 105L cow is the dam of Robb Farms’ famed 71N cow that has made them big dollars in the last few years. Enough about pedigree and past accomplishments, the IPU Red Hummer 217U bull saw heavy service the last few breeding seasons after seeing how his first crop developed so well. What we really like about Hummer is his large, wide, square made quarters. When you walk behind him, one can’t help but be impressed with the pair of pants he boasts. His length & scale is another huge selling point. He has matured into an elite herdsire here at the farm and anchors our red program. Hummer’s calves are born easily and at two days of age, they are all the same -- low set and the widest topped babies on the place. Hummer raises the cowboy kind of bulls who will only make you money.

Jahari 5055 is a Full Fleckvieh bull we have used with great results. He was one of the lead off bulls at MFI in 2006 and one of the heaviest as well, weighing in at 1620 lbs at 13.5 months of age. His sire is the well known and respected Shawacres Jahari who has had quite an impact on the breed in recent years. Proven breeding on both parent’s sides. We were very pleased with Jahari’s first set of calves; they were built right and displayed good muscling and color. The Jahari cattle are easy keeping, very fleshy and just darn good. His daughters are now into full production and they are raising us some top notch calves, year after year. This will be the last crop to sell from our old commander & chief, be sure to acquire some of his progeny.

An outcross for our program along with everyone else in the Simmental breed, meet Draco 68S. This Full Fleckvieh, South African bull is a transplant son of the Bar 5 Ms Erika II 830 cow and he was the only male from that flush. Draco is the best footed bull we have ever owned, he moves like a cat and is very long bodied. A great disposition and style to burn, we have nothing but good things to say about this meat machine. His calves are small at birth, get up and suck and then go to work, plain and simple. We even used Draco on heifers in the past, that’s how well this guy works. We would like to thank our friends, Derek & Emile Brunel of North SIDE Farms Ltd., for having sold us this powerful beef bull. Draco walked the pastures for three seasons at North SIDE before making his way south to Rendezvous. The Brunels were extremely pleased with their Draco progeny and felt that he should be used in a purebred herd to help advance the Simmental breed. While doing some research on the pedigree, you will notice the dam’s sire, Kykso Kalger, the K Line in South Africa means pigment, calving ease and good muscle, this describes Draco. This is the last chance to purchase a Draco son or daughter to advance your Fullblood program.

IPU Nero 274X has made a name for himself very quickly. The fact that he’s a Polled Fullblood meat machine may be part of the reason. We selected Nero at LaBatte’s in 2011, where he was our pick of the Fullblood bulls that year. A long, smooth made, easy fleshing bull, that’s low set and deep bodied. Nero is extremely well filled in the flank area and travels quite smoothly. Add all of the above plus a pedigree that’s second to none, and it’s no wonder that this bull is doing things right. Nero has taken our Fullblood program by storm, his sons averaged $9375 in our 2014 sale. We’re quite excited with Red Express! He was the lead off bull at Herdmasters 2013. Doug Zimmer had nothing but praise for his mother, especially since Red Express was her first calf. Express was truly one of the thickest, deepest bodied bulls we saw in the spring of 2013. This stout made bull is an impressive individual, one of the only yearling bulls we’ve used that never lost any condition during breeding season. This Crocket son was a popular bull in the Annual Skor Sale of 2013. So popular that he was in the first pair of bulls to sell in this highly respected Alberta bull sale. They say you should always be in the market for a good bull, even if you don’t need one at the time. This is exactly what happened with MFR Benjamin. Our friend Ben Wright had “bugged” us a few times about this “pretty damn good red bull” in Grenfell, SK. Sale day came around & we had enough bull power so why spend more money right…the phone rang that morning with Ben encouraging us to pursue this bull. Auctioneer Chris Poley was also quite high on this individual, therefore we followed the advice of these 2 young professionals. It turned out to be a great move; we were thoroughly impressed when Benjamin made his appearance to the ranch. We were even more impressed with the set of calves he sired on his first go around. His calves are deep, full in the flank, thick butted, performance style cattle. His bulls will be popular with the ranchers who want to produce pounds of beef. It can be a challenge to not repeat myself every time I type something about a Trigger son. I guess that’s what we aim for is uniformity & predictability. I don’t know if we ever owned a bull who sires such a uniform calf crop every single year. 463B can be picked out a mile away as a Trigger son, as the easy to recognize family traits shine through once again. Boy oh boy do these Trigger sons have depth! This fella is pretty easy to spot. Another hairy Hashtag son, they seem to have a certain look to them. We’re big believers in having good hair on our cattle & when Jay Good picked out the Hashtag bull for us, that was one of the biggest things that resonated for us when we received him. 85B was born unassisted to a first calf heifer who goes back to a heck of a good Virginia’s Mania cow. We used Mania heavily about 10 years ago & his daughters produced tremendous cattle for us. 85B has decades of quality genetics behind him & is yet another of our good single cross red bulls.

A lighter colored red bull who’s quiet as a lamb & would work well in siring some of those buckskin calves the Eastern market still enjoys if you’ve got some of that Charolais influence in your herd.
