It is the belief of our founders that having foreign languages taught is
not a sufficient goal, but rather having a quality foreign language program carefully designed and
assessed with national standards and trainings. The school will look to the ACTFL, American Council on
the Teaching of Foreign Languages, for support of these
objectives.

Students will participate in creating a Total Talent Portfolio,
documenting personal goals and bi-weekly or monthly progress
towards these goals in each of the core subjects, with some examples
of student’s work for further communication with parents,
homeroom teachers and specialty teachers.

Besides tests, Renaissance Academy will utilize the student portfolios to track student’s progress. This portfolio may include interviews, assignments, projects or other items that demonstrate students’ progress and mastery. Teachers will be encouraged to use a mastery-based rubric to help students learn to evaluate their own work when possible. (Section 4 – Comprehensive Program of Instruction)
