About RemotePortsIn a data center or other typical console management application where most of the connected devices are in close proximity, a Digi CM console management server with 8, 16, 32 or 48 integrated serial ports is cost-effective. However, customers often have devices located in multiple locations such as wiring closets or isolated racks. These remote devices can now be centrally managed through seamless integration with the Digi CM.

RemotePorts enables Digi CM users to manage additional remote servers by simply installing a Digi device or terminal server near the remote device(s). The Digi CM makes a connection to the serial port on the device/terminal server located near the remote equipment. RemotePorts extends the high end console management features of a CM to a cost- effective device or terminal server, providing centralized management of all network equipment. Console management-specific features include accessing, logging and monitoring of the remote devices.

Digi device/terminal servers are available in 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 ports, making it is easy to manage the numerous devices distributed at various locations on your network. The advantages include scalability, cost-effective expansion and centralized management.

The new RemotePorts feature extends the Digi CM’s secure, intelligent and easy console management capabilities to devices distributed around a TCP/IP network. Devices may be accessed, monitored, managed and controlled via Telnet, SSH, or Raw TCP/IP, ALOM, or via their serial console port through a device/terminal server.

RemotePorts is available on Digi CM firmware version 1.7.

* In addition to the native ports already available.

Digi CM is a best-of-breed console server that provides secure, intelligent and easy access to any network device with a serial console port via in-band or out-of-band management.

The new patent-pending RemotePorts feature allows Digi CM users to manage additional remote devices from the Digi CM via auxiliary device or terminal servers or even directly across the network. RemotePorts makes it possible to cost-effectively manage up to 48 remote devices* through a single interface, without requiring a Digi CM at every server location.
