Aggressive dogsDogtra does not recommend using the e-collar to

correct dogs that are aggressive towards other dogs orpeople. In many such cases the dog will associate thestimulation with the other dog or individual andbecome even more aggressive. Dog aggression is besttreated by a dog-training specialist.

Rheostat Intensity Dial

The Rheostat Intensity Dial is located on thetop of the transmitter: (0) being the lowest leveland (127) being the highest. The LCD screenshows the intensity level during operation.

LCD Screen

The LCD screen indicates the stimulationlevel (0-127) on the screen.

The LCD battery life indicator shows 3 barsat full charge, 2 bars at medium charge and 1 barwhen it needs to be charged. The battery lifeindicator only specifies the remaining charge foryour transmitter. To find the remaining chargefor your receiver, observe the LED on thecollar/receiver. When it emits a: (Green color =fully charged, Amber color = medium charge,Red color= needs charge).

Care for LCD Transmitters in ColdTemperature

In cold temperatures (10 degrees F orbelow), the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) onyour transmitter may be dim or slow to respond.Wait until the display becomes visible beforeselecting any training level.

Even though the LCD screen might be dim orslow to respond, when you push the Nick orConstant button, the transmitter will still functionproperly. In the occurrence of extremely coldweather, the LCD screen might take a moment torespond causing the Intensity level to freeze atthat current level. In this situation, if you turn theRheostat Intensity Dial, and the intensity level onthe screen does not increase, yet you emit anelectrical stimulation, the level will be inagreement with the new changed intensity level.

In this situation, it is ideal to either wait untilyour transmitter is back to working order beforeemitting a correction, or while holding theconstant button down slowly turn the RheostatIntensity Dial while watching your dog’sreaction. Do not turn the Rheostat Intensity Dialat a rapid increase because the collar/receiverwill emit a static correction based on the level ofthe Rheostat Intensity Dial, which might not becorrectly reflected on the LCD screen.

Transmitter Indicator Light (LED Window)

The transmitter LED indicator light islocated near the Rheostat Intensity Dial. It willflash every 4 seconds when the transmitter hasbeen turned on. The color of the light indicatesthe status of battery life. It flashes green whenthe battery is fully charged and turns to amberwhen the battery is at medium charge. It isacceptable to charge your unit even at mediumcharge without any damage incurred to yourcollar. When the transmitter indicator emits ablinking red light, the battery needs to berecharged.

(Green = full charge, Amber = mediumcharge, Red = needs charge).

Transmitter Battery Charging Receptacle &Rubber Plug

Located on the backside of the transmitter,the charging receptacle is covered by a rubberplug. Insert one end of the battery charging cableinto the receptacle to charge the battery (SeeBattery Charging Procedure on page27).

After charging is completed, close thereceptacle with its rubber plug to make sure dirtor water does not get inside.

The “Nick” button is located on the top left.It is imprinted with the letter “N” for an easy,clear selection. When the “Nick” button ispushed the receiver emits a single, rapid pulse ofelectrical stimulation.

“Constant” Button

The “Constant” button is located on thebottom left. Pressing the “Constant” button givescontinuous stimulation as long as the button ispushed, for up to 12 seconds. If the button is notreleased after 12 seconds, the stimulation willautomatically turn off as a safety feature. Thecollar will be ready to be reactivated once thebutton has been released.

“Pager” Button

The pager button is located on the face of thetransmitter. Pressing it will give non-stimulatingvibration as long as the button is depressed, forup to 12 seconds.

Transmitter Power ON/OFF

The button on the right side of the transmitteris the “ON/OFF” button that activates thetransmitter and LCD screen only.

To turn the transmitter on, press the“ON/OFF” button on the right side until theLCD screen illuminates.

To turn the transmitter off, press the“ON/OFF” button on the right side of thetransmitter. When the LCD screen displays“OFF” release the button.

“Nick” & “Constant” Toggle Switch

Located on the face of the transmitter is atoggle switch. The toggle switch has

a setting for “Nick” and another forConstant . The color-coordinated buttons

(orange for the orange receiver/collar and grayfor the black receiver/collar) will implementthe desired stimulation based on the toggleswitch setting.

When either the orange or gray stimulationbutton is pressed and the toggle is set on “Nick”the receiver emits a single, rapid pulse ofelectrical stimulation.

When you press either the orange or graystimulation button, and the toggle is set on“Constant”, the receiver emits a continuousstimulation as long as the button is pushed, forup to 12 seconds to the corresponding collar. Ifthe button is not released after 12 seconds, thestimulation will automatically turn off as asafety feature. The collar will be ready to bereactivated once the button has been released.

“Pager” Button

The pager buttons are located on the face ofthe transmitter. The orange button correspondswith the orange receiver/collar and the gray withthe black receiver/collar. Pressing it will givenon-stimulating vibration as long as the buttonis depressed, for up to 12 seconds.

Receiver ON/OFF Magnetic Red Dot

To activate the receiver/collar, place the reddot on the back of the transmitter to the red doton the collar/receiver. Hold the two red dotstogether for a moment until the LED light on thereceiver/collar comes on.

To deactivate the unit, repeat the sameprocedure holding the two red dots togethermomentarily. The LED light will turn red for abrief moment indicating that the collar/receiveris now shut off.

Receiver Indicator Light (LED window)

Located on the front of the receiver/collar,the indicator light comes on and blinks onceevery 2 seconds after the collar has been turnedon. The color of the LED indicates the batterylife of the receiver.

(Green = full charge, Amber = mediumcharge, Red = needs charge)

When the “Constant” button on thetransmitter is pushed, the collar indicator lightwill glow steadily (either green, amber, or redbased on the remaining battery life), as long asyou hold the button down, for up to 12 seconds.

When the “Nick” button is pushed, the lightcomes on for a fraction of a second.

DESCRIPTION OF BATTERY CHARGER

The battery charger and charging cablesallow you to charge both the transmitter andreceiver at the same time. The battery charger isdesigned for a 120-volt wall outlet. (European230-volt AC chargers and 12-volt field chargerfor your automobile are also available.)

To use the battery charger for the two-dogunit, combine both sets of battery charging(splitter) cables as shown. This enables you tocharge the transmitter and both receivers at thesame time.

TESTING

1. To activate yourplace the red dot on the back of thetransmitter to the red dot on thecollar/receiver. Hold the two red dotstogether for a moment until the greencolored LED indicator light comes on. Theindicator light will blink every two secondsshowing the unit is charged and ready touse. (If the indicator light emits a red color,the batteries need to be charged.)

2. Turn the intensity level on the transmitter up tothe maximum level (127) and press the Nickbutton. The indicator light(LED) on the collarreceiver will light briefly as you push thebutton. Pressing the Constant button will lightthe indicator for as long as you hold the buttondown, up to twelve seconds.

3. As a safety feature, the dogtra 280NCPPlatinum Series will automatically shut offstimulation if the Constant button is depressedfor twelve seconds or longer. The button willbe ready to be reactivated once the button isreleased.

The collar should be fitted so that theSurgical Stainless Steel contact points pressfirmly against the dog’s skin. You should beable to fit a finger in between the contact pointand your dog’s skin.

A loose fit can allow the collar to movearound on the dog’s neck. When this happens,the contact points may rub the skin and causeirritation. If the collar is too loose, electricalcontact will be inconsistent and yourcorrections will be inconsistent also.

Dogtra uses Surgical Stainless Steel contactpoints and Anti-microbial plastic to protect thedog’s skin.

FITTING THE COLLAR ON THE DOG

ATTENTION!Avoid having the dog wear the collar for

more than 8 hours out of every 24-hour period.Leaving the points on the same spot forextended periods of time can cause skinirritation. If the dog is to wear the e-collar forlong periods, occasionally reposition the collarso that the contact points are moved to adifferent spot on the dog’s neck.

INTENSITY SELECTIONThe

has a Rheostat Intensity Dial on the top of thetransmitter. (0 is the lowest and 127 is thehighest). Remember that you will need to adjustthe setting (upward or downward) depending onyour dog’s temperament and threshold forstimulation. Also, as the dog’s attitude changes,especially during times of increased excitementor distraction, you might need to adjust theintensity level.

NOTE : The stimulation intensity can beadjusted even while the stimulation is inuse.

1. Charge the unit before using the unit for thefirst time.

2. Do not charge the batteries near anyflammable substances.

3. Fully charge the batteries for 14 hours if theunit is to be stored without use for a period of3 months or more.

Recharge the unit if: The indicator light on the collar is emitting ared color.If the 3 bar indicator on the transmitter LCDshows just 1 bar. The indicator light on the transmitter or

Battery Charging Procedure

1. Attach the charging cables to both thetransmitter and receiver(s), as shown onpage 26

2. Plug the charger into a 120-volt wall outletor, if using the accessory field charger, pluginto a cigarette lighter. (Use a 230-voltEuropean charger for Europe.) Whenproperly plugged in, all indicator lightsshould glow red. The receiver automatically turns off whenyou insert the charging cable into the battery-charging receptacle on the receiver.

3. After charging, cover the battery chargingreceptacles with the rubber plugs on thetransmitter and receiver.

4. The battery is fully charged with a 14-hourcharge. The lights will stay red during thecharging process. They DO NOT turn greenwhen fully charged. Charging the batteriesfor more than 14 hours at one time will notextend battery life.

Reception

The collar has a range of 1/2-mile. Depending on theway you use your transmitter, the transmitterrange may vary.

Hold the transmitter away from your bodyand avoid touching the antenna, to get thegreatest range.

For maximum signal strength, keep your unitproperly charged.

1) Remove the clip bracket from the rear case.Fig.1.

2) Insert the belt clip post into the clip bracket(upward as shown) and then re-tighten thebolts. Fig.1.

BASIC MAINTENANCE

Be sure that the rubber charging plugs arealways secured when the collar is in use. If yourplugs break or are ripped, please contactCustomer Service at [email protected] or(888) 811-9111 to obtain replacements.

After each session, carefully inspect yourunit for any missing parts, or casing damage.Broken casings on either the receiver ortransmitter may affect the waterproof guaranteeof the unit. The transmitter antenna should besecured and tight for optimum performance.Rinse the unit after each session and clean offany dirt or debris.

Storage MaintenanceYour unit should be fully charged for 14

hours before extended storage. During storage,the unit should be charged every 3 months for14 hours, and once before the first use.

When traveling, try to store your units inroom or slightly warmer temperatures, do nottransport the unit exposed in extreme climates.

Troubleshooting:If you suspect your unit is malfunctioning

please refer to the “Troubleshooting Guide”before you send your unit in for service.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

1. My dog is not reacting to the collar.- Make sure the receiver is turned on. Place

the two red dots together to activate thereceiver. Push the blue button on thetransmitter until it illuminates to activate thetransmitter.

- Be sure the collar strap is tight enough soboth contact points are touching the dog’sskin.

- The contact points may be too short for thedog. To place an order for longer contactsappropriate for your dog, please call(888) 811-9111. If you are already using the longest contactpoint available, you might need to trimdown the hair on the dog’s neck so bothcontact points are touching the dog’s skin.

- The intensity level may be too low for yourdog. Keep increasing the stimulation untilthe dog responds usually by neckmovement, head shaking, looking over hisshoulder, etc. (response may be very subtleso pay attention.)

2. The LED indicator light comes on, but I donot feel any stimulation.- Your tolerance may be higher than your

dogs, or your skin very thick, so you mayneed to try the unit on your fingertips wheresensitivity is higher. Be sure both contactpoints are touching your fingertips.

- The battery may be low, check the LEDlight for battery life.

- If you have a full charge, and you have doneall of the above, your unit may need to beserviced. Please contact Customer Serviceat [email protected] or (888) 811-9111.

3. The transmitter has no range, or stimulationis less when the dog is farther away.- The antenna(s) may be damaged. To order

parts please contact Customer Service at(888) 811-9111.

- The range indicated on the unit’s box is forflat terrain. Heavy brush, trees, hills ormoisture will affect the range of your unit.For best range, hold the transmittervertically above your head. Try also movingto higher ground.

- Any electrical conductors will affect therange, such as cars, chain-link dog runs,metal buildings, radio towers. For bestresults, operate away from these structures.

4. My collars are not holding a charge.- The batteries might not be charged properly,

or the charger, splitter and the charging portneeds to be looked at. If you suspect yourcharger/splitter is not functioning properlyplease contact Customer Service [email protected] or (888) 811-9111. Youcan send in your charging units in to have usinspect them.

- The charging pin may be damaged. Insidethe charging port, there is a metal pin thatshould be standing straight up and stiff. Ifthe pin is wobbling, broken or missing, youwill need to send the unit in to the Repair’sDept. The charging port must be clean priorto charging, clean the dirt out with a cottonswab and some rubbing alcohol. If the dogis in salt-water, be sure to rinse the receiverand charging port with clean water.

Dogtra’s Limited Lifetime Warrantyprovides:- 1-year warranty for batteries. - 1-year warranty for the Yapper Stopper No-

Bark collars. - 2-year warranty for parts and labor awarded

to the original retail purchaser of the e-collars.

Dogtra’s Limited Lifetime Warranty does notprovide its warranty if the product is notregistered within 30 days of purchase and/orif the product is resold. The warranty willbecome void and all repairs will be subject toapplicable labor fees. Dogtra does not provide

replacement on defective units or providerefunds after 30 days from the original date ofpurchase.

All parts are covered under the warranty forthe life of the product. After the two-yearwarranty has expired, the labor cost will bedetermined based on the model type, year,and the extent of repair.

The Limited Lifetime Warranty expires five-years from the date a unit is discontinued inproduction by Dogtra Company.

Warranty does not cover:- Misplaced or lost units.

Replacement costs of either thetransmitter or receiver is owner’sresponsibility.

- Water damage of models that are notwaterproof.

- Damage done by dog or owner, neglect, orimproper maintenance.

- Warranty will be voided if the unit(s) havebeen altered or had unauthorized service.

Procedure for Repair Work:

Shipping to Dogtra for warranty work is theowner’s responsibility. The cost for shipping (viaregular ground service) back to the customer iscovered by Dogtra Co. within the continentalUnited States. Any expedited shipping servicewill be at the owner’s expense. Dogtra is notresponsible for loss of training time orinconvenience while the unit is in our warehousefor repair work. Dogtra does not provide loanerunits or any form of compensation during therepair period.

A copy of the sales receipt showing purchasedate is required before warranty work is begun.
