We value being: Respectful, Responsible and Safe
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land, the Wiradjuri and Ngunnawal nations, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and future
Yaama Thank you to all of our community for your involvement in the BBQ and Film night last week. Over 170 people attended the evening and many new friendships and relationships were formed between staff and families. A very big thank you to the Berinba P&C for their support of the evening by providing bottled water. Thanks to Kirsty and Ronald Sargent, Woolworths and IGA for their donations of food goods and money to make the evening a “gastronomical” success. Our thanks also to Cathy Campbell from Yass Valley Council for her support in providing the screen and projectors to the school. Finally to Mrs Bradley and Mrs Sainsbury, a huge shout out, for their organisation of the evening.
Our 2017 Kindergartens have settled into school routine brilliantly, it is a joy to sit in their classrooms and see their interactions with each other, their teachers and learning. They have had a fantastic start to the year.
School photos were taken yesterday; the envelopes you received give details about ordering packages online. We appreciate your support in the unfortunate quick turn around provided by the company to the school. I have seen some of the proofs and the quality and clarity is outstanding.
Warrambui Camp is next week with over 150 kids attending over the three evenings. Please ensure that any medications your child requires are handed to class teachers on the morning of your excursion. Also attach explicit instructions and your child’s name clearly marked on a sealable plastic bag. Buses will be leaving the school each morning at 9.30am and returning the next day at 2.30pm. Please make sure your child has comfortable, covered walking shoes, a light jacket/jumper, sunscreen and hat, toiletries, towel, either sheets or sleeping bag and a pillow or pillow case, a water bottle, pyjamas, a change of clothes for day 2, a good book to read, good behaviour and a fun attitude. I will be at the camp for the week and am looking forward to working closely with all of our children.
The school is participating in the state wide “Bullying No Way” day on Friday, 17 March. We encourage you to jump online to the Bullying No Way website and join us in providing strategies for our kids to prevent bullying in the school and to learn appropriate ways of managing bullying
behaviour.
We wish our regional swimmers every success next week in Dapto, the swimming season in schools happens so early in the year and the three carnivals leading to state happen in a blur. Congratulations to our students on their outstanding achievements over the school and district carnivals. Many thanks to parents who have assisted with carnivals to date and for the transport provided to Dapto next week.
The school’s sporting diary is starting to ramp up with NRL and Rugby activities taking place. The school has entered the State PSSA Netball Knockout and will play Goulburn East in the second round by early May. We have also entered Boys Soccer and Boys and Girls Touch football State Knockouts.

Students at Berinba Public School
are encouraged to explore their
capabilities and interests. Clubs are
a great place to learn, explore and
grow as an individual and as part of
a group.
These are a few of the Clubs which
ran in 2016.
CATS
(Creative-and-talented-students)
Acting CATS was open to students
in years 3-6 who were interested in
drama and Dancing CATS was open
to 3-6 students who were interested
in Dancing. Both groups were very
popular and rehearsed in their own
lunch times.
CHOIR
Choir was available for 3-6 students
who then met and sang on Tuesdays
after lunch. The choir performed in
the community for a variety of
functions and during whole school
assemblies for special occasions such
as ANZAC Day.
This year choir has been split into a
junior (yrs2-3) and senior (yrs4-6)
choir and rehearses during class on
separate occasions.
School Spectacular Choir is a special
choir that is selected to attend the
Schools Spectacular Performance in
Sydney each year. Berinba has
successfully auditioned and attended
this amazing performance for the last
10 years.

CC’s (Computer Coding Club)
Last year teachers nominated students
from years 3-6 who had interests and
abilities in computer technology. This
group then met twice a week during
class time to learn about coding using
online programs such as ‘Scratch’ to
build their own games and interactive
page design. This year students have
nominated to be part of the coding
club and there will be beginners and
advanced clubs running in the
computer lab at lunchtimes.
Other Clubs
Throughout the year teachers
volunteer to run interest groups
during lunch such as Lego, wool craft,
sewing and art to name a few.
Students enjoy the opportunities to
spend time with teachers and make
new friends while learning
something new.
M&Ms
Students were identified by class
teachers to participate in problem
solving and enrichment lessons.
During these sessions students
participated in a variety of activities
from Greek God research and
performances, STEM (Science
Technology Engineering Mathematics)
challenges, group problem solving
and brain bending tasks. Students
thoroughly enjoyed the challenges
and learnt a lot from each other.

BERINBA CLASS WORK
Hello from 1/2P!
Wow, what a busy and fun start to the year! 1/2P has been learning lots this
term! We have been having lots of fun learning about Light and Sound in Science.
We have discovered that the brightest place in the school was the oval and
Mr Rayner showed us that the darkest and possibly the spookiest place in the
school is where the old tables and chairs are kept. We now know that the sun is
our main source of light and that the moon reflects the sun’s light. We explored
how vibrations make sound through lots of cool mini experiments. In Writing we
have been learning about information texts and enjoyed writing about Giraffes
after watching a very short documentary about them.
Mrs Hourigan
Giraffes
Giraffes have long necks because they need to see predators and then they can
run away. Giraffes fight with their very hard horns and long necks because they
fight over who is in command. Giraffes live in Africa because there is lots of yum,
green, delish leaves for them to eat but there is dangerous, vicious, hungry
predators too.
Giraffes have skinny legs because they could kick their predators. Giraffes have
long tongues so they can reach the top of the tree and then they could curl their
tongues up on the bushes. Giraffes have five different patterns on their fur.
You only get to see one pattern at the zoo.
Giraffes are the biggest land mammal in 2017. Giraffes stay in Africa in packs.
They only live in grass lands or the zoo because there is enough food for them.
