Maryland/Delaware Forage Council Southern MD Hay & Pasture

Conference January 18, 2012

Make plans to attend the Southern Maryland Hay & Forage Conference, January 18, 2012, at the Isaac Walton League Conference Facility in Waldorf, MD. Topics will be presented covering all aspects of hay and pasture production. The programs will address key issues and concerns facing hay and pasture producers.

The conferences also features displays and exhibits by numerous agribusinesses. Attendees will be able to obtain information on seed, fertilizer, equipment, fencing, etc. needed for hay and pasture production and management.

Central Maryland Vegetable Growers Meeting

January 27, 2012 This well sponsored, large grower meeting always offers a great deal of

vegetable industry information. The Central Maryland Vegetable Growers Meeting will be held on January 27, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Friendly Farm Inn, located on Foreston Rd. in Upperco, MD. See attached flyer. Pesticide recertification credits are awarded for attending this meeting.

Bay Area Fruit School February 15, 2012

Attention all fruit growers! Plan to attend the Bay Area Fruit School on February 15, 2012 at the WYE Research and Education Center in Queenstown, MD from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This all day meeting will provide Private Pesticide Applicator Recertification Credit.

January 31 to April 4 The Baltimore County office of the University of MD Extension is partnering with Future Harvest Chesapeake Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture, and the MD Agricultural Resource Council to offer a workshop series to learn about starting and operating a successful, intensive small farm.

This program is part of a larger initiative to train new farmers in a variety of farm production areas. The focus of this program series is on small-scale, fruit and vegetable production. Each of the sessions covers topics that are applicable to a variety of agricultural operations including small fruits, tree fruits and vegetables using conventional, sustainable and organic methods. The program is open to all and intended for people interested in starting or improving their small farm skills by learning from knowledgeable University faculty and owners of other farm operations in the area. Participants will learn marketing, production and business skills necessary to become successful market farmers. See attached flyer for complete dates and topics.

This series of classes is scheduled in the evenings; as indicated on the schedule (Please note the first session is on a Tuesday and all other sessions are on Wednesdays).
