    REMEMBER THE SEVENTH-DAYSABBATH...

    INTRODUCTION

By the grace of God and the power of His Holy Spirit, we bring His message to thosewho are seeking the truth on this Biblical doctrine with all their heart. The purposeof this vital message is to shed God's light on a very controversial Bible doctrinethat pertains to the true holy worship day of rest for God's people versus that of Sunday worship. (HEBREWS 4:9-12).

THE SABBATH OF THE OLD TESTAMENT There are many Christians who claim that the Old Testament was strictly for the Jews, and of course, they also make the claim that the true Seventh-day BibleSabbath of rest was instituted for the Jews only. However, the Holy Bible neversubstantiates this teaching or belief in any way, as the Holy written Word of God will

prove. Let us establish first the meaning of the word SABBATH. In the Hebrew it iscalled SHABBATH and in the Greek, SABBATON, which simply means to rest; cease;or desist from all work. It is a weekly day of rest and worship as commanded byGod, in which we are to cease from all our work. It is very special day that our Godand Creator instituted for Himself and mankind to enjoy spiritually together, infellowship.

Through spiritual and careful study of the Holy Scriptures, we find that the Seventh-day Sabbath, or rest, was not strictly for the Jews at all, because the first Jews wereAbraham and his descendants. In fact, the day of God's rest began long beforeAbraham. We will have to go all the way back to the beginning of creation. TheSeventh-day Sabbath had its origin in the Garden of Eden at the end of creation. GENESIS 2: 1-2 (1) THUS THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH WERE FINISHED,AND ALL THE HOST OF THEM. (2) AND ON THE SEVENTH DAY GOD ENDED HISWORK WHICH HE HAD MADE: AND HE RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HISWORK WHICH HE HAD MADE. (3) AND GOD BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY, ANDSANCTIFIED IT: BECAUSE THAT IN IT HE HAD RESTED FROM ALL HIS WORK WHICHGOD CREATED AND MADE."

However, on the sixth day, God had completed His crowning act of creation whenHe created man in His own image, GENESIS 1: 26-28). Thus, Adam's first full day onthis earth was spent with Jesus Christ, the Creator, (JOHN 1: 1-3, 10, 14:COLOSSIANS 1: 14, 16-17 and HEBREWS 1: 1-3).

Therefore, because it was the seventh day of the creation week (God's Sabbath of rest), Adam and Eve, along with their families, worshipped God from one Sabbath toanother all down through their generations, even unto this very day.

Through continued study, we had found that God's Commandments were very muchin existence prior to the two tables of stone that were handed down to Moses onMount Sinai because Abraham, who lived long before Moses, kept thecommandments. GENESIS 26: 5 "BECAUSE THAT ABRAHAM OBEYED MY VOICE,AND KEPT MY CHARGE, MY COMMANDMENTS, MY STATUTES, AND MY LAWS."

We are going to see that God's holy law, or Ten Commandments, were always inexistence from the time of creation. God had verbally spoken His law in the verybeginning (GENESIS 6: 5). He wrote them on two tables of stone with His own fingerand gave them to Moses on Mount Sinai, (EXODUS 20: 1-20 and EXODUS 31: 13-18),

The first writing of God's holy law was written on two tables of stone and was putinside the Ark of the Covenant which, to the best of our knowledge, is no longer inexistence; (DEUTERONOMY 10: 1-5). The second writing of God's holy law waswritten in the hearts and minds of all humanity, to last forever. This is the

difference between the Old and New Covenants, (HEBREWS 8: 10) The writing of the Ten Commandment moral law was the only thing that godreserved unto Himself to write with His own hand or finger, signifying its greatimportance to Himself and to all of His human creation. EXODUS 31: 18 "AND HEGAVE UNTO MOSES WHEN HE HAD MADE AN END OF COMMUNING WITH HIM UPONMOUNT SINAI, TWO TABLES OF TESTIMONY, TABLES OF STONE, WRITTEN WITH THEFINGER OF GOD." God refers to His obedient followers as His "peculiar treasure, orpeople", EXODUS 19: 5; DEUTERONOMY 7: 6-7; DEUTERONOMY 14: 2; PSALM 135: 4and in the New Testament, TITUS 2: 14 and I PETER 2:9). What makes them Hispeculiar treasures (or people) is that they strive to keep all of His commandments inlove. Before we can establish the validity and holiness of God's Seventh-daySabbath, we need to examine, by the power of God's Holy Spirit, all scripture thatpertains to the Holy Bible Sabbath day. Seeing that this Seventh-day (Saturday)Sabbath of rest and worship is the fourth commandment of God; perhaps ourlooking into God's Ten Commandment Law would be the most appropriate place tobegin. Let us start by asking ourselves the questions: Is the Ten CommandmentLaw of God important to man and this world? Is God's holy law still binding on all of humanity and His faithful followers today? We need only to let God answer theseimportant questions for us. First, consider what happens when there is no law.Without the law you have lawlessness and nothing to govern or control evil or

wrong doing. We have the law of God to show us where we are going wrong, whereby, committing sin. To the Christian in this world, God's holy law IS SUPREME.

There is no higher law anywhere, whether in this world or outside of this world. How can we know that the Ten Commandment Law is of God? Because it isperfect, and it is neither partial nor prejudicial. There are no special interestloopholes or infringements in God's law, and neither is there any way to escape it,EXODUS 34: 6-7).This Ten-Commandment Law governs all of humanity and theuniverses. If the people in theworld would keep these Ten commandments, we would have no need for police, courts, jails, prisons, or the military forces. In fact, we would be in heaven. Perfectpeace and harmony of all things, happiness beyond our wildest expectations; this iswhat heaven is going to be like. Heaven is the result of keeping God's holy law of love. (REVELATION 14: 12). Since the Bible tells us that "GOD IS LOVE" (I JOHN4:8), we may be assured that the law reflects His character; thus, we call it the lawof love. Is the law still binding? Should we keep the Ten-Commandment Law? Thisis what Jesus says: (JOHN 14: 21) "HE THAT HATH MY COMMANDMENTS, ANDKEEPETH THEM, HE IT IS THAT LOVETH ME: AND HE THAT LOVETH ME SHALL BELOVED OF MY FATHER, AND I WILL LOVE HIM, AND WILL MANIFEST MYSELF TO HIM."

JOHN 15: 10 "IF YE KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS, YE SHALL ABIDE IN MY LOVE; EVENAS I HAVE KEPT MY FATHERS COMMANDMENTS AND ABIDE IN HIS LOVE." JOHN 14:15 "IF YE LOVE ME, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS." ROMANS 13:10 "LOVE WORKETHNO ILL TO HIS NEIGHBOR: THEREFORE LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW."

Can we keep the Ten Commandment Law of God? A question that comes to mindis: Why would a God of love command us so many times to do something (His Law)

  • 8/9/2019 Remember the Seventh-day Sabbath

    3/37

if it were impossible, or even unreasonable? The answer is simple: He wouldn't. Jesus kept all of the commandments in love, and He said, "Come and follow me",(MATTHEW 16-24) In PHILIPPIANS 4: 13) God says, I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGHCHRIST WHICH STRENGTHENETH ME."

It is only through, nd in, Christ that we can accomplish this. I JOHN 5: 3 "FOR THISIS THE LOVE OF GOD, THAT WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS, AND HISCOMMANDMENTS ARENOT GRIEVOUS.

"Notice how often the words love, law, and commandments are utilized together.Love and god's holy law is inseparable. I JOHN 2: 3-4 (3) "AND HEREBY WE DO

KNOW THAT WE KNOW HIM, IF WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. (4) HE THAT SAITH,I KNOW HIM, AND KEEPETH NOT HIS COMMANDMENTS, IS A LIAR AND THE TRUTH ISNOT IN HIM."

How important is it to know God and His Commandments? Our eternal life dependsupon it, because to know God is life eternal. JOHN 17:3 "AND THIS IS LIFEETERNAL, THAT THEY MIGHT KNOW THEE THE ONLY TRUE GOD, AND JESUS CHRISTWHOM THOU HAST SENT."

    To know God is to love Him, to love Him is to keep His commandments. (ROMANS13:8-10; ROMANS 2: 13; DEUTERONOMY 7: 9; PSALM 40: 8; I JOHN 2: 1-6; LUKE 10: 25-28; PROVERBS 28: 9; REVELATION 12: 17; REVELATION 14: 12; REVELATION 22: 14;I CORINTHIANS 7: 19; PSALM 119: 2,34-35,44,47-48, 60; I JOHN 3: 24; PSALM 111:10).

Is the Law important to God and His children? ROMANS 2: 12-13 (12) FOR AS MANYAS HAVE SINNED WITHOUT LAW SHALL ALSO PERISH WITHOUT LAW: AND AS MANYAS HAVE SINNED IN THE LAW SHALL BE JUDGED BY THE LAW; (13) FOR NOT THEHEARERS OF THE LAW ARE JUST BEFORE GOD, BUT THE DOERS OF THE LAW SHALL

BE JUSTIFIED," According to God, ignorance of His law is not an acceptable excuse, and the endresult is the eternal death. Those who are followers of God and His Christ are goingto be judged by the law in accordance with their relationship to it, whether obedientor disobedient. PROVERBS 3: 1 "MY SON, FORGET NOT MY LAW; BUT LET THINEHEART KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS."

What relationship does God place between mankind and His commandments?ECCLESIASTES 12: 13 "LET US HEAR THE CONCLUSION OF THE WHOLE MATTER:FEAR GOD AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS: FOR THIS IS THE WHOLE DUTY OF

MAN." We must note here how God said that it is "the whole duty of man"

(humanity) (and not just the Jews or the Hebrews) to keep His commandments, Inthe following text, God tells us of the prophecy of Jesus Christ and the importance of the law to His only begotten Son in ISAIAH 42: 21 "THE LORD IS WELL PLEASED FORHIS RIGHTEOUSNESS SAKE; HE WILL MAGNIFY THE LAW, AND MAKE ITHONOURABLE." Jesus Christ was to come and magnify the law, or to make itclearer, and to make it honorable through His loving obedience to it.

Our eternal life is on a parallel with the keeping of the commandments of God.MATTHEW 19: 1"...BUT IF THOU WILL ENTER INTO LIFE, KEEP THE

COMMANDMENTS." IMPORTANT: We keep the commandments of God, NOT TO BESAVED, but BECAUSE WE ARE SAVED. We keep them because we love God. The

  • 8/9/2019 Remember the Seventh-day Sabbath

    4/37

keeping of the law or commandments, strictly, can not justify or save anyone,(GALATIANS 2: 16; ROMANS 1: 17; ROMANS 3: 20-23; TITUS 3: 5). Yet, without thekeeping of God's holy law, we can not enter into heaven. Is God contradictingHimself here? No, indeed! It is all in the matter of "rightly dividing (understanding)the Word of God in truth", (II TIMOTHY 2: 15) What God looks at is our heart and thereason as to why we obey Him and keep His commandments. He is concernedabout what it is that motivates us. Do we do these things because we are afraid of Him and hell's fire? Do we do these things because that is how we have beenbrought up, or because we have been taught this all our lives? Or do we, perhaps,do these things because our parents and grandparents have always done them andpreached them? Do we do them because our ministers say we should?, etc. Noneof these are acceptable reasons. We keep the commandments of God because weknow God and the great love and concern that He has for us, and we, in turn, lovehim and His holy law of love. We must be motivated by a Godly love, which is a giftfrom God. ROMANS 7: 12 "WHEREFORE THE LAW IS HOLY, AND THECOMMANDMENT HOLY AND JUST, AND GOOD." Another good reason to keep thecommandments of God, wouldn't you say? We keep all of the commandments of God because WE LOVE GOD, and the Bible text of ROMANS 13: 10 says it so well:"THEREFORE LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW." If we truly love the Lord, we

will keep His commandments in love, (JOHN 14: 15).

CAN THE LAW OF GOD BE CHANGED?

Has any of the commandments of God been changed, altered, or done away with?Does anyone have the authority to change, alter, or do away with any of God's

commandments? Let's let Jesus tell us how He feels about the changing of His TenCommandment Law, MATTHEW 5: 17-18 (17) "THINK NOT THAT I AM COME TODESTROY THE LAW, OR THE PROPHETS: I AM NOT COME TO DESTROY, BUT TOFULFIL. (18) FOR VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, ONE JOT (DOT) OR ONE TITTLE (T) SHALLIN NO WISE PASS FROM THE LAW, TILL ALL BE FULFILLED." LUKE 16: 17 "AND IT ISEASIER FOR HEAVEN AND EARTH TO PASS, THAN ONE TITTLE OF THE LAW TO FAIL."(I PETER 1: 25). A jot is the equivalent of the dotting of an (i), and a tittle is the

crossing of a (t). Jesus came to magnify the law (make it clearer) and to make ithonorable by fulfilling or keeping it, (ISAIAH 42: 21). He came to "FULFILL", uphold,to observe or do the law, to comply with, or adhere to the law. Jesus said that itwould be easier for Him to destroy heaven and earth than it would be to alter adotting of an (i), or the crossing of a (t) in His holy Ten Commandment Law. Toalter, change, or omit any part of God's holy law would be to defame, alter, orchange God's immutable character of love. If any part of God's law could bechanged, Jesus would have come and died for nought. If the law could be changed,

Jesus would not have had to go to the cross to pay the debt for our sins, which is the"transgression of God's holy law." I JOHN 3:4, "WHOSOEVER COMMITTETH SIN

TRANSGRESSETH ALSO THE LAW: FOR SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW."How many commandments does God say we have to break before it is a sin?

JAMES 2: 10 "FOR WHOSOEVER SHALL KEEP THE WHOLE LAW, AND YET OFFEND INONE POINT, HE IS GUILTY OF ALL." When you transgress or break any part of God's

Ten Commandment Law, in His eyes you have broken them all, because "sin is thetransgression of the law." And what does God say the wages (or results) of sin is?ROMANS 6: 23 "FOR THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH, BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS

ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD." (GENESIS 2: 17; ROMANS 5:12; JAMES 1: 15). Jesus Christ has a reward for those who love Him and keep Hiscommandments in love (JOHN 14: 15 and REVELATION 22: 12). When John theRevelator looked out in heaven and saw all of god's Redeemed people, He tells uswho the only people are that are going to make it into heaven, and this is what he

    5/37

saw and said: REVELATION 14: 12-13 (12) "HERE IS THE PATIENCE OF THE SAINTS:HERE ARE THEY THAT KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD, AND THE FAITH OF

JESUS. (13) AND I HEARD A VOICE FROM HEAVEN SAYING UNTO ME, WRITE,BLESSED ARE THE DEAD WHICH DIE IN THE LORD FROM HENCEFORTH: YEA, SAITH

THE SPIRIT, THAT THEY MAY REST FROM THEIR LABORS; AND THEIR WORKS DOFOLLOW THEM." (JAMES 2: 14,17-18,20). Now that we have established, by the holywritten Word of God, that His Ten Commandment Law is, indeed, still binding andhas not been changed, let us go on. DOES IT MATTER WHAT DAY WE WORSHIP GOD

ON? There are many who believe that it doesn't really matter what day we keep holyand worship God on; they believe it can be any day that we choose or, for thatmatter, even all seven days of the week. We will also cover this again shortly, but Iwould like to use a small illustration here that will disprove this erroneous theory (ordoctrine) of men. In EXODUS 20, verse 8 and 10, God commands and tells us this:(8) "Remember THE Sabbath day to keep it holy..." (10) "But THE SEVENTH DAY is

the Sabbath of the Lord thy God...." When God used the word "the", He meant onevery special or specific day only. The emphasis here in verse 8 is, first of all, to"REMEMBER:; the second emphasis is on "THE SEVENTH DAY", a special day (not

just any day or days), and the third emphasis is on "KEEP IT HOLY." His command isvery specific, very clear, and very forceful. Example: If there were seven"different" hammers on the table all in a row, and I was to say to you,"Please bring me A hammer, meaning any one would do. However, if I were to sayto you: "Bring me THE seventh hammer, I have now asked for a very SPECIFIChammer by using the words THE and SEVENTH, meaning not just any hammer willdo. This is what God has done here in His Fourth commandment, showing us thatnot just any day, or all seven days, will do; but by being specific in using the word

THE, He has shown that only (THE) SEVENTH DAY is acceptable. In fact, Godmentions "The Seventh Day" four times in His fourth commandment in EXODUS 20:8-11. How special is God's Sabbath day? GENESIS 2: 3 "AND GOD BLESSED THESEVENTH DAY, AND SANCTIFIED IT ..." When God blessed His Seventh-day Sabbath,

He made it holy. Only God can make anything holy, and it is made holy because Heis in it. When God sanctified the Seventh-day Sabbath, He was setting it apart fromthe other six days of the creation week. This is God's very special day in which Hehad rested from all His work at creation, and He wants us to enter into that rest withHim, (HEBREWS 4: 9-11). There are those who claim every day (all seven days) arethe Lord's, and that we need to give God every day. This can not be considered the

same as His worship day that He sanctified. If we kept all seven days according tothe commandment, this would mean we could never work (which is preposterous),because God also said: "six days shalt thou labor and do all thy work." Was theSabbath made just for the Jews, or was it made for all of God's people? MARK 2: 27"AND HE SAID UNTO THEM, THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN, AND NOT MAN FOR

THE SABBATH." HEBREWS 4: 9 "THERE REMAINETH THEREFORE A REST TO THEPEOPLE OF GOD." God makes it very plain and clear that the Seventh-day Sabbathwas made for man, people, or all of humanity, not just for the Jews. Were the TenCommandments for the Jews only, or are they for all of mankind? The answer issimple and obvious. God's Sabbath "day of rest" will remain in force for THEPEOPLE OF GOD. If you are one of God's faithful people, then the Seventh day(Saturday) IS YOUR DAY OF REST AND WORSHIP. Once again, God instituted HisSeventh-day Sabbath at the end of His creation in the Garden of Eden, not on MountSinai. When God (Jesus Christ) was living amongst the children of Israel and was leading them Himself by a pillar of a cloud by day and a pillar of fireby night (I CORINTHIANS 10: 1-11 and EXODUS 13: 21-22), how important was the

  • 8/9/2019 Remember the Seventh-day Sabbath

    6/37

Sabbath to Himand His people? Paul tells us that whatever happened unto the children of Israel, ithappened and was written so that we could learn from it and avoid the samemistakes that they had made. With God living amoungst the children of Israel, thepenalty for breaking His sabbath was very serious. EXODUS 35: 2 "SIX DAYS SHALLWORK BE DONE, BUT ON THE SEVENTH DAY THERE SHALL BE TO YOU AN HOLYDAY, A SABBATH OF REST TO THE LORD: WHOSOEVER DOETH WORK THEREINSHALL BE PUT TO DEATH." (Exodus 31: 13-18; Numbers 15: 31-36). The

punishment for the blatant, disobedient people of God, who deliberately profanedand broke the Fourth (or Sabbath) commandment of God, was death by stoning. This was carried on from Adam and Eve until Jesus Christ, or until the NewCovenant (the laws of God written in the hearts and minds of men), (HEBREWS 9: 6-10). God's holy Sabbath day is not any less important to Him today than it wasback then. God never changes, HEBREWS 13:8 "JESUS CHRIST THE SAME

YESTERDAY, AND TODAY, AND FOR EVER." The only difference is that under the old covenant, thepunishment was carried out at the time of transgression, because Jesus Christ wasliving amoungst thepeople in the power of His Holy spirit, making the people and the place where theywere, holy. However, under the new covenant, the punishment is still the same, and it will be carried out at the end of the world. The church leaders (or ministers)of Israel failed to teach and enforce God's holy Sabbath day, NEHEMIAH 13: 17-18(17) "THEN I CONTENDED WITH THE NOBLES OF JUDAH, AND SAID UNTO THEM,WHAT EVIL THING IS THIS THAT YE DO, AND PROFANE THE SABBATH DAY? (18) DIDNOT YOUR FATHERS THUS, AND DID NOT OUR GOD BRING ALL THE EVIL UPON US,AND UPON THIS CITY? YET YE BRING MORE WRATH UPON ISRAEL BY PROFANING

THE SABBATH." God was not, and is not, well pleased When His church fails tohonor and to keep Hiscommandments, including the fourth. EZEKIEL 20: 16-17 (16) "BECAUSE THEYDESPISED MY JUDGEMENT, AND WALKED NOT IN MY STATUTES: BUT POLLUTED MYSABBATHS: FOR THEIR HEART WENT AFTER THEIR IDOLS. (17) NEVERTHELESS

MINE EYE SPARED THEM FROM DESTROYING THEM, NEITHER DID I MAKE AN END OF THEM IN THE WILDERNESS." EZEKIEL 22: 8,26 (8) "THOU HAST DESPISED MINEHOLY THINGS, AND HAST PROFANED MY SABBATHS. (26) HER PRIESTS HAVEVIOLATED MY LAW, AND HAVE PROFANED MINE HOLY THINGS. THEY HAVE PUT NODIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HOLY AND PROFANE, NEITHER HAVE THEY SHEWEDDIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE UNCLEAN AND THE CLEAN, AND HAVE HID THEIR EYESFROMMY SABBATHS, AND I AM PROFANED AMONG THEM." The celebrating and thekeeping of God's holy day of worship is of the utmost importance to God and tothose of His church. Let no man deceive you on this, EPHESIANS 5:6 "LET NO MANDECEIVE YOU WITH VAIN WORDS; FOR BECAUSE OF THESE THINGS COMETH THE

WRATH IF GOD UPON THE CHILDREN OF DISOBEDIENCE." THE SABBATH MEMORIALAND SIGN. The Seventh day Sabbath of rest and worship is a "MEMORIAL" to God. The Sabbath is a memorial of God's creation. The Sabbath is to be a weeklyreminder that Almighty God is our Creator, and that there is no other God besidesHim. The Fourth Commandment is God's great SEAL and SIGN of creation. GENESIS2: 1 "THUS THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH WERE FINISHED AND ALL THE HOST OF

THEM." (EXODUS 20: 11; EXODUS 31: 17; ACTS 4:24; REVELATION 14: 7). What isanother purpose for God's Sabbath? EZEKIEL 20: 12,20 (12) "MOREOVER ALSO IGAVE THEM MY SABBATHS, TO BE A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND THEM THAT THEYMIGHT KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD THAT SANCTIFY THEM. (20) AND HALLOW MYSABBATHS AND THEY SHALL BE A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND YOU, THAT YE MAY

  • 8/9/2019 Remember the Seventh-day Sabbath

    7/37

KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD." EXODUS 31: 13,16-17 (13) "SPEAK THOUALSO UNTO THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, SAYING, VERILY MY SABBATHS YE SHALLKEEP: FOR IT IS A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND YOU THROUGHOUT YOUR GENERATIONS:

THAT YE MAY KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD THAT DOTH SANCTIFY YOU. (16)WHEREFORE THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL SHALL KEEP THE SABBATH, TO OBSERVE

THE SABBATH THROUGHOUT THEIR GENERATIONS FOR A PERPETUAL COVENANT.(17) IT IS A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL FOREVER: FOR IN SIXDAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, AND ON THE SEVENTH DAY HE

RESTED, AND WAS REFRESHED." (PSALM 135: 13 and PSALM 111:4). The Sabbath is a SIGN between God and His church forever. It is a very special andspecific day (Saturday, the Seventh day); it is sanctified (set aside or apart) for Hispeople to comeand worship Him in the presence of the world. God does not want His people toforget the fact that he is our God and "CREATOR." If the world would have acceptedand obeyedHis fourth commandment, there could never have been the theory of evolution. Thesign of God's Sabbath will last FOREVER; it is a PERPETUAL COVENANT. Does thissound like God is going to change His Sabbath (or seventh day of worship) toSunday, the "first day" of the creation week? Consider this: What would werecognize as God the Creator if we celebrated the first day of the week? NeitherAdam and Eve nor any form of life had been created, as yet. Who would rest orworship Him as God and Creator? The entire concept is ridiculous. GENESIS 1: 3,5(3) "AND GOD SAID, LET THERE BE LIGHT: AND THERE WAS LIGHT. (5) AND GODCALLED THE LIGHT DAY, AND THE DARKNESS HE CALLED NIGHT, AND THE EVENINGAND THE MORNING WERE THE FIRST DAY." All that was created on the first day waslight. Please look at your calendar if you are not certain which day is the first day of the week. If God is the author of the Seventh-day Sabbath, who then is the authorof the first day (or Sunday) worship? The answer to this question is simple; he isnone other than that great deceiver and liar Satan himself, the author of Sundayworship, an absurd day in pointing to creation, (REVELATION 14: 6-7). IS SATURDAY

THE SEVENTH DAY? There are many who ask the question, "How do we know that the Seventh day isSaturday"? An excellent question, which we will answer by the Holy Word of God.When God began the weekly cycle, he called the days by NUMBERS instead of by

names. Why was that? Because you can change names, but you can never changethe number sequence, such as one through seven, consecutively. One, or first, willalways be first, two will always be two, and so will the seventh number always bethe seventh or last number. The numbers or God's days were according to His workin creation. The world was created in six literal, twenty-four hour days (JOHN 11:9)and THE SEVENTH DAY WAS THE DAY OF REST, THUS, THE Sabbath had begun. TheSeventh day is also THE LAST DAY

OF THE WEEK. God has given us a way to tell time and to tell days by the stars withexact pinpoint accuracy over centuries of time; astronomers have proven this to betrue. GENESIS 1: 14 "AND GOD SAID, LET THERE BE LIGHTS IN THE FIRMAMENT OF

THE HEAVEN TO DIVIDE THE DAY FROM THE NIGHT; AND LET THEM BE FOR SIGNS,AND FOR SEASONS, AND FOR DAYS, AND YEARS." Jesus (the Creator) spoke of

TWELVE HOURS IN THE DAY, or the light part of the day, which means there are also TWELVE HOURS IN THE NIGHT, OR THE DARK PART OF THE TWENTYFOUR HOUR DAY. JOHN 11: 9-10 (9) "ARE THERE NOT TWELVE HOURS IN THE DAY?IF ANY MAN WALK IN THE DAY, HE STUMBLETH NOT, BECAUSE HE SEETH THE LIGHT

OF THIS WORLD. (10) BUT IF A MAN WALK IN THE NIGHT, HE STUMBLETH,

    8/37

BECAUSE THERE IS NOT LIGHT IN HIM." The name of the days (which were given byman) are pagan. They were named after the planets, as follows:

    NAMES GOD GAVE LATIN NAMES

FIRST DAY (GEN. 1:5) DIES SOLISSECOND DAY (GEN. 1:8) DIES LUNAE

THIRD DAY (GEN. 1:13) DIES MARTISFOURTH DAY (GEN. 1:19) DIES MERCURIFIFTH DAY (GEN. 1:23) DIES JOVISSIXTH DAY (GEN 1:31) DIES VENERISSEVENTH DAY (GEN. 2: 1-3) DIES SATURNI

SAXONS ENGLISHSUN'S DAY SUNDAYMOON'S DAY MONDAY

    TIW'S DAY TUESDAYWODEN'S DAY WEDNESDAY

THOR'S DAY THURSDAYFRIGA'S DAY FRIDAYSATURN DAY SATURDAY

Many Christians ask the question: How do we know that Saturday is the seventh orlast day of the week? The best way to answer that is by the Holy Bible, and wemust also ask thequestions: (1) On what day does most of Christianity say that Jesus died? Theanswer is "Good Friday." (2) The next question is: On what day did Jesus resurrect? The answer is:

The first day of the week (Sunday), in perfect harmony with our calendar. (3) Our

last question is: What day is between Friday and Sunday? The answer isSATURDAY, the day that Jesus rested in the tomb (the seventh or last day of theweek). Even the women who were going to anoint the body of Jesus "RESTED THESABBATH DAY ACCORDING TO THE COMMANDMENT." (LUKE 23: 52,54-56 and LUKE24: 1-2). We can also prove this by the fact that the Jewish religionists have alwaysworshipped God on Saturday, ever since Abraham; they still do it to this very day.Even Jesus Himself kept, and worshipped, on the Saturday Sabbath, as we will see

shortly. Another question that we must ask ourselves is: Would God command us to"REMEMBER" the Seventh-day Sabbath under the penalty of sin and the second (oreternal) death by hell's fire, and then let us lose or mistake the day that He "blessedand sanctified to keep holy?" I don't believe so.

It does not matter what names you give the days of the week. You can call themanything you wish, but you can never change the fact that there are only SEVENDAYS in a week. You will always have a first day and a last day (seventh day). Thishas never been changed or altered by God, neither can it be. However, in the Bookof Daniel, God said that there would be a power to come who will "THINK TOCHANGE HIS TIMES AND LAWS." (DANIEL 7: 20-21,23-25). The change from God'sholy worship day to Sunday is of no surprise to the faithful children of God who areseeking the truth with all their heart on this vital Biblical doctrine.

    KEEPING THE SABBATH

  • 8/9/2019 Remember the Seventh-day Sabbath

    9/37

How does God say that we should keep His holy Sabbath worship day?

    (1) We are to keep it holy: EXODUS 20: 8 "REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEPIT HOLY."

    (2) We are not to do any work on the Sabbath, nor anyone staying or visiting in ourhome: EXODUS 31:15 "SIX DAYS MAY WORK BE DONE; BUT IN THE SEVENTH IS THESABBATH OF REST, HOLY TO THE LORD..."LEVITICUS 23:3). EXODUS 20:10 BUT

THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD THY GOD: IN IT THOU (you)SHALT NOT DO ANY WORK, THOU, NOR THY SON, NOR THY DAUGHTER, THY

MANSERVANT, NOR THY MAIDSERVANT, NOR THY CATTLE, NOR THY STRANGER THAT IS WITHIN THY GATES:" No one staying in your home is to do any work, noteven the hired help or tradesmen. This also includes yard work or maintenancearound-or in-the home.

    (3) We must not shop for groceries or buy anything on the Sabbath: NEHEMIAH10:31 "AND IF THE PEOPLE OF THE LAND BRING WARE (hardware and softwares) ORANY VICTUALS (food or groceries) ON THE SABBATH DAY TO SELL, THAT WE

WOULD NOT BUY IT OF THEM ON THE SABBATH, OR ON THE HOLYDAY:...."NEHEMIAH 13: 15-22; EXODUS 16: 22-30. (Remarks in parenthesis supplied).

    (4) We must not do our own good pleasure on the Sabbath or participate in any kindof materialistic business: ISAIAH 58:13 "IF THOU (you) TURN AWAY THY FOOT FROM

THE SABBATH, FROM DOING THY PLEASURE ON MY HOLY DAY: AND CALL THESABBATH A DELIGHT, THE HOLY OF THE LORD, HONORABLE; AND SHALT HONORHIM, NOT DOING THINE OWN WAYS, NOR FINDING THINE OWN PLEASURE, NORSPEAKING THINE OWN WORDS:" The reason most of Christianity today can not seegod's holy Seventh-Day Sabbath is because they are TOO BUSY WALKING ALL OVERIT. Doing your own good pleasure includes eating out in restaurants, playing orattending sports events, going to the movies, watching television, or listening tonon-Christian music. Attending worldly functions or entertainment is considereddoing your own good pleasure.

Speaking your own words is talking about business or any conversation that is notappropriate or befitting of God's holy day, etc. God has given us six days to indulgein all of these things, but the Sabbath is a very special and wonderful day, in whichwe can come apart from the rest of the world and spend it with God, family, andfellow Christians. It truly is a wonderful delight.

    (5) We must go to church and worship God on the Sabbath: LUKE 4: 16 "AND HE(JESUS) CAME TO NAZARETH, WHERE HE HAD BEEN BROUGHT UP: AND, AS HISCUSTOM WAS, HE WENT INTO THE SYNAGOGUE (CHURCH) ON THE SABBATH DAY,AND STOOD UP FOR TO READ." It was Jesus' custom to worship and assembleHimself with God's worshippers on His holy day. HEBREWS 10:25 "NOT FORSAKING

THE ASSEMBLING OF OURSELVES TOGETHER, AS THE MANNER OF SOME IS, BUTEXHORTING ONE ANOTHER: AND SO MUCH THE MORE, AS YE SEE THE DAYAPPROACHING." (ACTS 17: 2; ACTS 18: 4,11; ACTS 13: 13-16,42-44). "That dayapproaching" mentioned here is the end of the world.

    (6) We should pray with others on the Sabbath: ACTS 16: 13 "AND ON THESABBATH WE WENT OUT OF THE CITY BY A RIVER SIDE, WHERE PRAYER WAS WONT(wanted or desired) TO BE MADE AND WE SAT DOWN AND SPAKE UNTO THEWOMEN WHICH RESORTED THITHER (there)."

  • 8/9/2019 Remember the Seventh-day Sabbath

    10/37

    (7) The Sabbath is a wonderful day to preach and to teach the holy written word of God: MARK 1: 21 AND THEY WENT INTO CAPERNAUM: AND STRAIGHTWAY ON THESABBATH DAY HE ENTERED INTO THE SYNAGOGUE, AND TAUGHT." LUKE 4: 31AND (JESUS) CAME DOWN TO CAPERNAUM, A CITY OF GALILEE, AND TAUGHT THEMON THE SABBATH DAYS."

    (8) We should do good on the Sabbath: LUKE 6: 6-10

    (9) "THEN SAID JESUS UNTO THEM, I WILL ASK YOU ONE THING; IS IT LAWFUL ON THE SABBATH DAYS TO DO GOOD, OR TO DO EVIL? TO SAVE LIFE OR TO DESTROYIT?

God's counsel as to how His holy sabbath day is to be kept is very plain and clear. We are to keep it holy by keeping our hearts and minds on Him, by entering into

His rest andworshipping Him in Spirit and in truth in church with other fellow Christian believerson the only day that God sanctified. We are not to do any work, or to make anymoney, or to do any monetary business transactions for purchase or gain. When

Jesus said, "IS IT LAWFUL TO DO GOOD", He meant that there is nothing wrong with

helping someone else, but not for monetary gain. We are not to work for someonewhen it is not of an emergency or life-saving nature. In other words, if someonewas in dire need of financial assistance, it would not be wrong to give them moneyor to buy them what they needed such as food; medicine; necessary clothing; oremergency transportation. If someone is sick, and you want to clean their house ordo their dishes, there would be nothing wrong with that, provided you accept nopayment in return. Another example: If you saw a woman stranded on the side of the road because she had a flat tire, and you stopped and changed it for her, neither would this be wrong. However, you would not help a friend or anyone whomight be painting their house or working on their car, etc., When there is noemergency involved; this would not be acceptable. Going shopping or going intothe stores on the Sabbath is not acceptable to God. However, if someone is sick, itwould not be wrong to purchase the necessary medicine or medical supplies, or tovisit a doctor or clinic. We are to use good spiritual judgement. We can put onChristian programs for the invalids in nursing homes, etc. When we do good byhelping others on the Sabbath, it not only pleases God, but we also receive a trulywonderful blessing. It really is a delight.

JESUS AND PAUL SET THE EXAMPLE

What day did Jesus worship on and keep holy? MARK 1: 21-22 (21) "AND THEYWENT INTO CAPERNAUM; AND STRAIGHTWAY ON THE SABBATH DAY HE ENTEREDINTO THE SYNAGOGUE AND TAUGHT. (22) AND THEY WERE ASTONISHED AT HISDOCTRINE: FOR HE TAUGHT THEM AS ONE THAT HAD AUTHORITY, AND NOT AS

THE SCRIBES," LUKE 4: 14-16 (14) "AND JESUS RETURNED IN THE POWER OF THESPIRIT UNTO GALILEE: AND THERE WENT OUT A FAME OF HIM THROUGH ALL THEREGION ROUND ABOUT. (15) AND HE TAUGHT IN THEIR SYNAGOGUES, BEINGGLORIFIED OF ALL. (16) AND HE CAME TO NAZARETH, WHERE HE HAD BEENBROUGHT UP: AND AS HIS CUSTOM WAS, HE WENT INTO THE SYNAGOGUE ON THESABBATH DAY, AND STOOD UP FOR TO READ: (MARK 6: 1-2; LUKE 6: 5-6). Theapostle Paul also worshipped on the Sabbath day according to the commandment. The question that comes to mind is: Why would he do this if he had changed theday of worship? The answer is simple;because he never did. ACTS 17:2 "AND PAUL, AS HIS MANNER WAS, WENT INUNTO THEM, AND THREE SABBATH DAYS REASONED WITH THEM OUT OF THE

SCRIPTURES." ACTS 18: 4,11 (4) "AND HE REASONED IN THE SYNAGOGUE EVERYSABBATH, AND PERSUADED THE JEWS AND THE GREEKS. (11) AND HE CONTINUED

THERE A YEAR AND SIX MONTHS, TEACHING THE WORD OF GOD AMONG THEM."(ACTS 13: 14-16,42-44; ACTS 15: 21-22). Jesus Christ, the Apostles, Paul, and all of

the early Christian church ministers and leaders all worshipped on, and kept holy,God's Seventh-day (Saturday) Sabbath according to the Fourth Commandment. TheBible record also gives us the command that we should follow their example.MATTHEW 16:24 "THEN SAID JESUS UNTO HIS DISCIPLES, IF ANY MAN WILL COME

AFTER ME, LET HIM DENY HIMSELF, AND TAKE UP HIS CROSS, AND FOLLOW ME."One of the ways that we deny ourselves is by refraining from doing our own goodpleasure on God's holy Sabbath day, as Jesus did. JOHN 10:27 "MY SHEEP HEAR MYVOICE. AND I KNOW THEM, AND THEY FOLLOW ME." The faithful followers of JesusChrist are His sheep, and we hear His voice through His holy written Bible and areobedient to Him. I PETER 2: 21 "FOR EVEN HEREUNTO WERE YE CALLED: BECAUSECHRIST ALSO SUFFERED FOR US, LEAVING US AN EXAMPLE, THAT YE SHOULDFOLLOW HIS STEPS:" I JOHN 2: 6 "HE THAT SAITH HE ABIDETH IN HIM OUGHTHIMSELF ALSO TO WALK, EVEN AS HE WALKED (Jesus)."Even as Paul followed Jesus,so does Paul say to follow him. We have just seen by the Bible scriptures what day

Jesus worshipped on, and the same truth applies to Paul because he, too, worshipped on the same day. The reason Paul asks the church to follow him isbecause he followed Jesus. II THESSALONIANS 3: 7,9 (7) "FOR YOURSELVES KNOWHOW YE (you) OUGHT TO FOLLOW US: FOR WE BEHAVED NOT OURSELVESDISORDERLY AMONG YOU: (9) NOT BECAUSE WE HAVE NOT POWER, BUT TO MAKEOURSELVES AN ENSAMPLE UNTO YOU TO FOLLOW US." The example is in the HolyBible for us to follow, and it is extremely plain and clear.

DID JESUS OR PAUL CHANGE THESEVENTH DAY OF WORSHIP?

Many Christians say and believe that Jesus and/or Paul changed the fourthcommandment (God's seventh-day Sabbath of worship) to Sunday, the first day of the week. Bur moreimportantly, what does Jesus say about the changing of His holy law? MATTHEW 5:17-18 (17) "THINK NOT THAT I AM COME TO DESTROY THE LAW, OR THEPROPHETS: IAM COME NOT TO DESTROY, BUT TO FULFIL. (18) FOR VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, TILLHEAVEN AND EARTH PASS, ONE JOT OR ONE TITTLE SHALL IN NO WISE PASS FROM

THE LAW, TILL ALL BE FULFILLED." LUKE 16:17 "AND IT IS EASIER FOR HEAVEN ANDEARTH TO PASS, THAN ONE TITTLE OF THE LAW TO FAIL." Jesus did not come tochange or do away with His Father's holy law, or the prophets' writings (the Old

Testament) in any way. He came to "FULFIL" the law, which means to adhere to; toobserve; to comply with; or to do the law. Jesus also warns us When He says"verily" (truly), until heaven and earth pass, or until He destroys them at the end of the world (II PETER 3: 7, 10-12), not one jot (dotting of an i) or one title (crossing of a t) will be changed, altered, or done away with until everything in Bible prophecyhas been fulfilled or completed. Jesus alsosaid that it would be easier for Him to destroy the heavens and the earth than forone crossing of a (t) in His holy law to fail or be omitted I PETER 1:25 "BUT THEWORD OF THE LORD ENDURETH FOREVER, AND THIS IS THE WORD WHICH BY THEGOSPEL IS PREACHED UNTO YOU." The Word of God, His Holy Bible, where you findHis Fourth Commandment, will last forever. We will show that the Seventh-daySabbath in prophecy will also last forever. Does this sound like Jesus changed Hisholy written Word and law? No indeed, heaven and earth are still here, and allprophecies have not yet been fulfilled, although we are very, very close.

IS THE SATURDAY SABBATH ONLY FOR THE JEWS?

  • 8/9/2019 Remember the Seventh-day Sabbath

    12/37

Once again, there are many Christians who say God's Seventh-day Sabbath wasmade for the Jews. We need only to go to the source of all truth to find the answerby God's holywritten Word. MARK 2: 27-28 (27) "AND HE (Jesus) SAID UNTO THEM, THESABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN, AND NOT MAN FOR THE SABBATH: (28)"THEREFORE THE SON OF MAN (Jesus) IS LORD ALSO OF THE SABBATH." Noticethat there is no mention of a Jew here, or an Hebrew, but rather the Sabbath wasmade, or instituted, by God "FOR MAN", or all of humanity, and practiced by those

who love God and accept His holy immutable law. The Sabbath, as previouslystated, was instituted in the Garden of Eden, with Adam and Eve, centuries beforethe first Jew came into existence.

There are many Christians who believe and teach that the Lord's Day is Sunday, and that God changed it in honor of the resurrection of Jesus. We will see shortly,by the Word of God that no change has ever been made by either God the Father,God the Son (Jesus Christ), God the Holy Spirit, the apostle Paul, or any otherapostle or prophet. The Bible tells us that there is a "true Lord's Day", so now let ussee by the Word of God what day that is: MARK 2: 28 "THEREFORE THE SON OFMAN IS LORD ALSO OF THE SABBATH." The Sabbath is the specific day spoken of here, and Jesus said that He is Lord of that day. We must also note that the Son of man (Jesus Christ) IS Lord of the Sabbath, not WAS. Note also what day Jesus Christis Lord of: THE SABBATH. This certainly could not have been Sunday, because Hehad not yet gone to the cross. Another vital point of interest is in noting the word

THE and not A Sabbath. In fact, Jesus is still Lord of the Seventh-day(Saturday) Bible Sabbath. MATTHEW 12: 8 "FOR THE SON OF MAN IS LORD EVENOF THE SABBATH DAY." What Jesus is telling the ministers of His church today (aswell as then) is that He was the one who had instituted the Sabbath day of rest atcreation. Because He is the Creator, He certainly understood, better than any otherperson, the purpose of doinggood and how we are to celebrate the Sabbath. In fact, the Jewish religious leadersprofaned and perverted the Sabbath by making it so stringent that no one could

keep it, much less enjoy it. Jesus Christ is the Creator of all things, (JOHN 1: 1-3,10,14; HEBREWS 1: 1-2; COLOSSIANS 1: 14, 16-17). Jesus Christ also wrote the Ten Commandment Law with His own finger on the two tables of stone, and He isindeed Lord of the Sabbath Day.

If Jesus, Paul, or anyone could have (or did indeed) change the law and holy day of rest and worship, would not they have made such a phenomenal change very plainand clear? Yes,indeed, they would have! MALACHI 3: 6 "FOR I AM THE LORD, I CHANGE NOT;...."PSALM 89:34 "MY COVENANT WILL I NOT BREAK, NOR ALTER THE THING THAT IS

GONE OUT OF MY LIPS." God says that He will not "break His covenant", and wefind what the New Covenant or Testament really is in HEBREWS 8: 10 "FOR THIS IS

THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL. AFTER THOSEDAYS, SAITH THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MIND, AND WRITE THEMIN THEIR HEARTS: AND I WILL BE TO THEM A GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE TO ME APEOPLE:" HEBREWS 13:8 "JESUS CHRIST THE SAME YESTERDAY, AND TO DAY, ANDFOREVER."

    HEBREWS, CHAPTER FOUR

If Jesus could have changed the Seventh-day Sabbath, He certainly would have toldus plainly. Keep in mind that it was the apostle Paul who wrote the Book of Hebrews, because most Protestant Christians believe that it was Paul who changed

    13/37

the Seventh-day Sabbath to Sunday. NOTE: *(The remarks in parenthesis aresupplied). HEBREWS 4: 1-12 (1) LET US THEREFORE FEAR, LEST, A PROMISEBEING LEFT US OF ENTERING INTO HIS REST. *(the Sabbath) ANY OF YOU SHOULDSEEM TO COME SHORT OF IT. (2) FOR UNTO US WAS THE GOSPEL PREACHED, ASWELL AS UNTO THEM: *(them being the ancient children of Israel) BUT THE WORDPREACHED DID NOT PROFIT THEM, NOT BEING MIXED WITH FAITH IN THEM THATHEARD IT. (3) FOR WE WHICH HAVE BELIEVED DO ENTER INTO REST. *(theSeventh-day sabbath), AS HE SAID, AS I HAVE SWORN IN MY WRATH, IF THEY SHALL

NOT ENTER INTO MY REST: *(the Sabbath day of rest) ALTHOUGH THE WORKSWERE FINISHED FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD. *(Creation, GENESIS 2: 1-3 and wrath NEHEMIAH 13: 18). (4) FOR HE SPAKE IN A CERTAIN PLACE OF THESEVENTH DAY ON THIS WISE, AND GOD DID REST THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HISWORKS. *(Creation, GENESIS 2: 1-3 and EXODUS 20: 8-11). (5) AND IN THIS PLACEAGAIN, IF THEY SHALL ENTER INTO MY REST. *(PSALM 95: 7-11). (6) SEEING

THEREFORE IT REMAINETH THAT SOME MUST ENTER THEREIN, AND THEY TO WHOMIT WAS FIRST PREACHED ENTERED NOT IN BECAUSE OF UNBELIEF:" (JEREMIAH 17:21-23) The "some" mentioned here are the few Christians throughout the world andcenturies who have entered into God's rest by keeping His fourth commandment of rest and worship. Those to whom it "was first preached" was ancient Israel, fromthe time of the Exodus on down through the centuries, and they entered not intoGod's Sabbath day of rest because they rejected it through their unbelief, thoughthey claimed to be the chosen people of God. (7) "AGAIN HE LIMITETH A CERTAINDAY, SAYING IN DAVID, TO DAY, AFTER SO LONG A TIME; AS IT IS SAID, TO DAY IF YEWILL HEAR HIS VOICE. *(And we hear Him or His voice through the holy scriptures)HARDEN NOT YOUR HEARTS. *(As God speaks of a certain day", what He is saying

is that not just any day, or all seven days, will be acceptable. The worship and holyday of God is still being preached today, and God's people are still hardening theirhearts and stiffening their necks against His Seventh-day Sabbath and FourthCommandment by not accepting it, and by not doing it. Even after a long time, Godcommands us "harden not your hearts" as the chosen people of God did so long agoin "the provocation", and they still are today in Christianity. They provoked God by

refusing to enter into His holy day of rest). HEBREWS 3: 8-19; PSALM 95: 7-11; ICORINTHIANS 10: 1-11). (8) FOR IF JESUS HAD GIVEN THEM REST, THEN WOULD HENOT AFTERWARD SPOKEN OF ANOTHER DAY. *(If Jesus had changed or alteredGod's holy Seventh-day Sabbath of rest, the question is: Would not Jesus havespoken of and told us plainly of another day in its place? Yes, He most definitelywould). (9) THERE REMAINETH THEREFORE A REST TO THE PEOPLE OF GOD.*(Therefore, God's Seventh-day Sabbath of rest remains even unto this very day,

even unto the end of the world. God has always had a remnant (a few people) thathas always obeyed Him and did enter into His holy day of rest and worship). (10)FOR HE THAT IS ENTERED INTO HIS REST, HE ALSO HATH CEASED FROM HIS OWNWORKS, AS GOD DID FROM HIS. *(GENESIS 2: 1-3 and EXODUS 20: 8-11, Whenever

an individual keeps the Sabbath by entering into God's rest, that person will not doany work, as previously mentioned). (11) LET US LABOR THEREFORE TO ENTERINTO THAT REST; LEST *(unless) ANY MAN FALL AFTER THE SAME EXAMPLE OFUNBELIEF (God tells us here that it is not easy to keep the Seventh-day (Saturday)Sabbath holy, and that we are to "labor", or work at, entering into (keeping) His holyspecial worship day of rest. God says if you refuse to keep it, then you will havefallen into "unbelief" through disobedience which, in God's eyes, is the same as aninfidel or Gentile, (I THESSALONIANS 4: 5 and II CORINTHIANS 6:15). (12) "FOR THEWORD OF GOD IS QUICK, AND POWERFUL, AND SHARPER THAN ANY TWO EDGEDSWORD, PIERCING EVEN TO THE DIVIDING ASUNDER OF SOUL AND SPIRIT, AND OF

THE JOINTS AND MARROW, AND IS A DISCERNER OF THE THOUGHTS AND INTENTS

    14/37

OF THE HEART." And the Word of God commands us plainly that we are to keepholy and worship God on His Seventh-day Sabbath of rest.

Paul is telling us that the only authority we have is the holy written Word of God. Isthe Sabbath plain and clear in the Word of God? Yes, it is. Was the changing overof the solemnity of God's Seventh-day Sabbath of the Fourth Commandment to thefirst day of the week (Sunday) plain and clear? No indeed, it is not clear in the Wordof God, simply because it was never done, nor will it ever be done. The Word of God (the Bible) is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword. Wecan see this in the life of Jesus Christ and all of the countless numbers of Martyrsdown through the millenniums, who have given their lives rather than alter theWord and commands of God. The Word of God pierces even to the dividing asunderof soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow. This is how powerful God's Bibletruth and doctrines are.

The Word of God can split families (MATTHEW 10: 34-36), groups, churches, andeven individuals into two pieces. Why? Because it is truth, and our carnal minds, sinful human nature, and selfish desires fight against the Holy Bible and its truths.Even our very human nature is enmity against God (ROMANS 8:7). Man wants to

trust in himself, in his own knowledge and wisdom, in his own strength, and he

wants to do those things that are convenient and comfortable for him. Jesus hadtold Paul, who had experienced this: "It is hard for thee to kick against the pricks",(ACTS 9: 5; EPHESIANS 2: 2-3). Jesus commands us to "take up our cross and followHim" (MATTHEW 16:24). It can be very difficult. As a matter of fact, it is impossiblewithout Divine help and intervention through the rejuvenating power of the HolySpirit and our sincere desire to have it so. With a willing and zealous heart and lovefor God, it can be done. For God to change a human being completely around, ittakes a miracle, but He will never alter or change His commandments and Holywritten Word to do so.

The fact of the matter is, the Word of God in truth is not very popular, never was,and never will be. It wasn't popular back in the days of Ancient Israel or in the daysof Jesus Christ; itisn't popular today, and neither will it be popular tomorrow. God's Holy Bible recordhas proved this to be true, especially that pertaining to God's Fourth Commandmentand HisSeventh-day Sabbath of rest and worship. Much of Christianity has no problem withthe remaining nine commandments, but the fourth is just not acceptable, orperhaps a better word may be "convenient." People do not like to be told Whenthey can work and When they can not work; When they can spend their money andWhen they can not. This commandment does, very definitely, affect the pocketbook, and even one's employment. We often forget that it is God who supplies us our job, wealth, and the ability to earn

it. DEUTERONOMY 8: 18 "BUT THOU SHALT REMEMBER THE LORD THY GOD: FORITIS HE THAT GIVETH THEE POWER TO GET WEALTH...." (ECCLESIASTES 5: 19;PHILIPPIANS 4: 19; MATTHEW 6: 25-34). If we are going to keep thecommandments of God, then we must keep them in love, (JOHN 14: 15); not to besaved, but because we are saved.

If God will not change His law, who can-or who will? The Lord tells us that in "thelatter days" someone would "think to change His times and laws." DANIEL 7: 25"AND HE SHALLSPEAK GREAT WORDS AGAINST THE MOST HIGH, AND SHALL WEAR OUT THE

    15/37

SAINTS OF THE MOST HIGH, AND THINK TO CHANGE TIMES AND LAWS:..." There isonly one law that deals with time, and that is God's Seventh-day Sabbath, celebrated from even to even, or sunset to sunset, and not midnight to midnight.DANIEL 8: 17 "SO HE CAME NEAR WHERE I STOOD: AND When HE CAME, I WAS

AFRAID, AND FELL UPON MY FACE: BUT HE SAID UNTO ME, UNDERSTAND, O SON OFMAN: FOR AT THE TIME OF THE END SHALL BE THE VISION." The angel of the Lordwas giving Daniel this vital prophecy, and it was meant for those at the time of theend to understand and take heed. The "Little Horn" prophecy of Daniel 7 and 8 is

the same prophecy of John the Revelator of the "Beast Power" of Revelation, chapters 17,18, and 14, and has a direct bearing on the accepting or rejecting of God's Seventh-day Sabbath and worship here in these last days.

    THE CONTROVERSY

Why do we have this controversy as to the proper worship and rest day? Jesusanswers that for us, Himself, in JOHN 8: 45 "AND BECAUSE I TELL YOU THE TRUTH,

YE BELIEVE ME NOT." The problem comes into existence When man feels andbelieves that he is intelligent and educated enough to understand and interpretGod's Holy bible scriptures on his own merit. Man makes the decision as to what he

is going to believe, instead of what God is telling him. However, god gives us amplecounsel and warning about interpreting His Holy Bible. PROVERBS 3: 5 "TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL THINE HEART; AND LEAN NOT UNTO THINE OWNUNDERSTANDING. PROVERBS 14:12 "THERE IS A WAY WHICH SEEMETH RIGHTUNTO A MAN, BUT THE END THEREOF ARE THE WAYS OF EATH." JEREMIAH 10: 23-24; II CORINTHIANS 1:9). The truth of the matter is, there is only one interpreter of God's Holy Bible scriptures, who not only reveals the truth but convinces andconvicts us of it, if we will allow Him. JOHN 14: 26 "BUT THE COMFORTER,WHICH IS THE HOLY GHOST, WHOM THE FATHER WILL SEND IN MY NAME (Jesus), HESHALL TEACH YOU ALL THINGS, AND BRING ALL THINGS TO YOUR REMEMBRANCE,WHATSOEVER I HAVE SAID UNTO YOU." Where do we find "all things" that Jesus hassaid unto us but in the Holy Scriptures, Genesis to Revelation, ((JOHN 5: 39). JOHN16: 13 HOWBEIT When HE, THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, IS COME, HE WILL GUIDE YOUINTO ALL TRUTH:...AND HE WILL SHOW YOU THINGS TO COME." The Holy Spirit of God is THE ONLY INTERPRETER and TEACHER of the Holy Scriptures, and it is Hewho will teach you all things in the Bible that God wants you to know, learn, andobey.

It is the Holy Spirit who brings to our remembrance the Biblical truths, not our ownknowledge and intelligence. Neither are we able to obey that which God has givenus without the same power of His Holy Spirit. If all of Christianity was taught andconvicted by the Holy Spirit, we would all be members of one and the same faithand church, and not all of these different denominations and beliefs that we have in

the world today. God gives us one of the reasons in ISAIAH 53: 6 "WE ALL LIKESHEEP HAVE GONE ASTRAY: WE HAVE TURNED EVERYONE TO HIS OWN WAY: AND THE LORD HATH LAID ON HIM (Jesus) THE INIQUITY OF US ALL." EPHESIANS 4: 14-15 (14) "THAT WE HENCEFORTH BE NO MORE CHILDREN TOSSED TO AND FRO,AND CARRIED ABOUT WITH EVERY WIND OF DOCTRINE, BY THE SLEIGHT OF MEN,AND CUNNING CRAFTINESS, WHEREBY THEY LIE IN WAIT TO DECEIVE: (15) BUTSPEAKING THE TRUTH IN LOVE, MAY GROW UP UNTO HIM IN ALL THINGS, WHICH IS

THE HEAD, EVEN CHRIST." God has made that very plain and clear in the Bible, because there is only one God, ONE FAITH (or Truth), and one baptism, (EPHESIANS4: 5). We must allow the Holy Spirit (and only the Holy Spirit) to reveal and convictus of God's Biblical doctrines of truth.

  • 8/9/2019 Remember the Seventh-day Sabbath

    16/37

    WHAT IS TRUTH?

How can we know or find the truth? Jesus said that he is the truth, (JOHN 14: 16)and we find Jesus and His truths in His Holy Bible Scriptures, (JOHN 5: 39). God hascommandedHis entire church followers to be of one mind and one accord, or to be in totalagreement where His Biblical doctrines and truths are concerned. When seeing andunderstanding this in the light of God's truths, it makes perfect sense, especiallysince there is only one truth, one teacher, and one interpreter of that truth.PHILIPPIANS 2: 2 "FULFIL YE MY JOY, THAT YE BE LIKE MINDED, HAVING THE SAME

LOVE, BEING OF ONE ACCORD, OF ONE MIND." I CORINTHIANS 1: 10 "NOW IBESEECH YOU, BRETHREN, BY THE NAME OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, THAT YE ALLSPEAK THE SAME THING, AND THAT THERE BE NO DIVISIONS AMONG YOU: BUT

THAT YE BE PERFECTLY JOINED TOGETHER IN THE SAME MIND AND IN THE SAME JUDGMENT." This is a clear, direct command of God to His church in this world inthat there be NO DIVISIONS AMONG US, that we all be in complete agreement onHis Bible truths and commandments, and that we ALL BELIEVE, SPEAK, and TEACHthe same Bible doctrinal truths. This most certainly is not what the Christianchurches in the world are exhibiting today, now is it? As long as man continues totrust in himself, in his own intelligence, understanding and intellect of the spiritualmatters of God, and insists on believing what best suits himself, this division anddirect disobedience to God's Word will always exist.

Perfect harmony can only come from God to those who will seek Him and His truthwith all their heart. DEUTERONOMY 4: 29-31 (29) "BUT IF FROM THENCE THOUSHALT SEEK THE LORD THY GOD, THOU SHALT FIND HIM (and His truth) IF THOUSEEK HIM WITH ALL THY HEART AND WITH ALL THY SOUL. (30) When THOU ART IN

TRIBULATION, AND ALL THINGS ARE COME UPON THEE, EVEN IN THE LATTER DAYS,IF THOU TURN TO THE LORD THY GOD, AND SHALT BE OBEDIENT UNTO HIS VOICE:(31) (FOR THE LORD THY GOD IS A MERCIFUL GOD): HE WILL NOT FORSAKE

THEE...." (JEREMIAH 29: 13; PSALM 119: 2; ISAIAH 55: 6). These are some of thereasons why there are so many different controversial beliefs amongst God's churchin the world today.

    SUNDAY SCRIPTURES IN THE BIBLE

Though there are many disagreeing Biblical doctrinal beliefs among the churches, the controversy studied here is that expressly dealing with God's Seventh-day(Saturday) Sabbath of rest and worship. Keep in mind that the word Sunday isnever used in the Bible, and God refers to it as the "first day of the week." What weare going to do now is to look at all of the Bible scriptures that the Sunday-keepingpeople in the world today claim to be their authority for keeping Sunday, strictly. We know that history has proved that Sunday is the day that the Pagans have

worshipped on throughout the past centuries in honor of the sun. It dates all theway back to Egypt with the Pagan worship of "RA", the sun god. In fact, sun worshipeven infiltrated the church of God in early Israel When God pointed this out to Hisprophet Ezekiel, EZEKIEL 8: 5-18. We will be quoting only verses 15 and 16 here, but the remaining verses should be read also. (15) "THEN SAID HE UNTO ME, HAST

THOU SEEN THIS, O SON OF MAN? TURN THEE YET AGAIN, AND THOU SHALT SEEGREATER ABOMINATIONS THAN THESE. (16) AND HE BROUGHT ME INTO THE INNERCOURT OF THE LORD'S HOUSE, AND BEHOLD AT THE DOOR OF THE TEMPLE OF THE

LORD, BETWEEN THE PORCH AND THE ALTAR, WERE ABOUT FIVE AND TWENTYMEN, WITH THEIR BACKS TOWARD THE TEMPLE OF THE LORD, AND THEIR FACES

TOWARD THE EAST: AND THEY WORSHIPPED THE SUN TOWARDS THE EAST." Godsaid that it was an ABOMINATION (extreme disgust) unto Him, speaking of thosethings that were being done by His holy chosen people, Israel, His church. God listseach grievous act as a greater abomination unto Him. (1) The Elders of Israeloffering incense to the idol images carved on the wall of the temple building. (2)Women weeping for Tammuz. *(As the story goes, Tammuz was the son of Queen

Semiramis and King Nimrod, who had supposedly come down from the sun after hisdeath and had gotten Queen Semiramis pregnant, whereby, recognizing Nimrod asbeing from the sun god; so, also, was his son Tammuz). And the worst abominationof all, (3) the men of Israel with their backs to the Temple and their faces lookingtoward the sun in sun worship. This is what "SUNDAY" REPRESENTS IN THE WORLD,HONORING THE VENERABLE DAY OF THE SUN (Sunday).

Is Sunday worship a deception? It is not a question of whether the Bible Sabbath is,indeed, Saturday; but rather, was the solemnity of God's holy seventh-day Sabbathtransferred orchanged to Sunday, the first day of the week? If there is no Bible proof to supportthis belief, then it must be false and erroneous. While praying to His Father in JOHN17: 17, Jesus says: "THY WORD IS TRUTH." Therefore, since God's Word CAN NOTsupport Sunday keeping, it must be considered a lie. This pagan day of sun worshipwas incorporated into the Christian church by Satan, and no wonder, for Jesus saysthat "he is a liar and the father of it." JOHN 8: 44). God has instituted His Seventh-day Sabbath original, and Satan has succeeded in deceiving most of Christianitytoday by teaching that it was Christ who made the change from Sabbath to Sunday. But we can find no evidence of this change anywhere in the entire Bible. By

believing in the counterfeit day of worship set forth by Satan, Christians todaycontinue to defile God's genuine holy day by breaking His Fourth Commandment,EXODUS 20: 8-11. We are going to look at every Bible text in the New Testament

that pertains to THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK (Sunday) and see if God did, indeed, change the solemnity of His holy Seventh-day Sabbath to Sunday. The "first day of the week" is mentioned only eight times in the entire New Testament.

    (1) MATTHEW 28: 1 "IN THE END OF THE SABBATH, AS IT BEGAN TO DAWN TOWARD THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK, CAME MARY MAGDALENE AND THE OTHERMARY TO SEE THE SEPULCHRE." Is there any mention, or even the remotest hint, that God is changing over the solemnity of His holy Sabbath worship day to Sunday?

    (2) MARK 16: 1-2 (1) "AND When THE SABBATH WAS PAST, MARY MAGDALENE,AND MARY THE MOTHER OF JAMES, AND SALOME, HAD BROUGHT SWEET SPICES,

THAT THEY MIGHT COME AND ANOINT HIM. (2) AND VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK, THEY CAME UNTO THE SEPULCHRE AT THE RISING OF THE SUN." Is there any mention, or even the remotest hint, that God is changingover the solemnity of His holy Sabbath worship day to Sunday?

    (3) MARK 16: 9 "NOW When JESUS WAS RISEN EARLY THE FIRST DAY OF THEWEEK, HE APPEARED FIRST TO MARY MAGDALENE, OUT OF WHOM HE HAD CASTSEVEN DEVILS." Is there any mention, or even the remotest hint, that God ischanging over the solemnity of His holy Sabbath worship day to Sunday?

    (4) LUKE 24: 1 "NOW UPON THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK, VERY EARLY IN THEMORNING, THEY CAME UNTO THE SEPULCHRE, BRINGING SPICES WHICH THEY HAD

PREPARED, AND CERTAIN OTHERS WITH THEM." Is there any mention, or even theremotest hint, that God is changing over the solemnity of His holy Sabbath day of worship to Sunday?

    (5) JOHN 20: 1 "THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK COMETH MARY MAGDALENE EARLY,When IT IS YET DARK, UNTO THE SEPULCHRE, AND SEETH THE STONE TAKEN AWAYFROM THE SEPULCHRE." Is there any mention, or even the remotest hint, that Godis changing over the solemnity of His holy Sabbath worship day to Sunday?

    (6) JOHN 20: 19 "THEN THE SAME DAY AT EVENING BEING THE FIRST DAY OF THEWEEK, When THE DOORS WERE SHUT WHERE THE DISCIPLES WERE ASSEMBLEDFOR FEAR OF THE JEWS CAME JESUS AND STOOD IN THE MIDST, AND SAITH UNTO

    THEM, PEACE BE UNTO YOU."

There are many who say that this is the text that shows the change from God'sSabbath worship day to Sunday, because the disciples were assembled. However, where does it say here that they were assembled for a worship service? Wheredoes it say that God changed or transferred the solemnity of His holy Seventh dayto Sunday, the first day of the week? In fact, the Bible tells us very clear here in this

text that they were assembled because they were all frightened for their lives forfear of the Jews, and THAT THEY WERE SHUT IN BEHIND SHUT (or locked) DOORS.Certainly this was not an open worship service. Jesus does not say here that He is

changing His Father's holy law and Sabbath, or Fourth Commandment, and thatthey are to begin worshipping God on Sunday (the firstday of the week) in honor of His resurrection. Is there any mention, or even theremotest hint, that Jesus Christ is changing over the solemnity of His holy Sabbathworship day to Sunday? Certainly not!

    (7) ACTS 20: 7-8 (7) "AND UPON THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK, When THEDISCIPLES CAME TOGETHER TO BREAK BREAD, PAUL PREACHED UNTO THEM,READY TO DEPART ON THE MORROW: AND CONTINUED HIS SPEECH UNTIL

MIDNIGHT. (8) AND THERE WERE MANY LIGHTS IN THE UPPER CHAMBER, WHERE THEY WERE GATHERED TOGETHER."

Many Protestants also claim this text as their authority for Sunday worship. By the"breaking of bread", they claim that the disciples had come together for communionservice. Once again, where does it state anywhere in these texts that they werereceiving communion? What it does say is that they came together "TO BREAK BREAD", which means they came together TO EAT, or share a meal. Because Paulpreached to them all day, even until midnight, does this mean he was, in fact, preaching at a worship service? I am certain Paul had preached countless numbersof times on each day of the week, whenever the opportunity presented itself, as anygood minister would do. However, the fact of the matter is, there is no mentionhere about a religious worship service or the celebrating of the ordinance of communion. Neither does it mention that the Sabbath day was changed to Sunday.I am sure that they gathered on other days, as well, to eat and fellowship with one

another by breaking bread, MATTHEW 14: 19;MARK 8: 6; LUKE 24: 30; and after the death of Christ, ACTS 2: 46 and ACTS 20:7.

They also claim that because Paul preached unto them on a Sunday, it constitutedthe change from God's Sabbath to Sunday. Because ministers preach atWednesday evening prayer meetings, weddings, funerals, or any special church

gatherings does not mean or constitute a change from God's holy Sabbath worshipday. This does not constitute a CHANGE BY GOD. The question still remains thesame. Does God say, plain and clear, that He has changed His sanctified day of restand worship? Certainly not! Is there any mention, or even the remotest hint, thatGod is changing over the solemnity of His holy Sabbath worship day to Sunday? No,indeed!

    (8) I CORINTHIANS 16: 1-4 "NOW CONCERNING THE COLLECTION FOR THE SAINTS,AS I HAVE GIVEN ORDER TO THE CHURCHES OF GALATIA, EVEN SO DO YE. (2)UPON THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK LET EVERY ONE OF YOU LAY BY HIM IN STOREAS GOD HATH PROSPERED HIM, THAT THERE BE NO GATHERINGS When I COME. (3)AND When I COME, WHOSOEVER YE SHALL APPROVE BY YOUR LETTERS, THEM WILLI SEND TO BRING YOUR LIBERALITY UNTO JERUSALEM." (4) AND IF IT BE MEET(decided) THAT I GO ALSO, THEY SHALL GO WITH ME."

This is yet another Bible text that the Sunday keeping Protestants claim for theirauthority. However, where does it mention that they were to gather to worship Godon this day (the first day of the week) anywhere in these Bible texts? The Bible tellsus explicitly what the churches of Galatia and Corinth were supposed to do on thefirst day of the week prior to Paul's arrival. They were to gather all of their gifts and

donations together to help the poor brethren in Jerusalem, ACTS 11: 29. Paul wasordering them to do all their gathering, boxing, and packaging on Sunday, NOT THESABBATH. Paul wanted everything to be ready in preparation for their leaving onSunday. Paul also called for representatives from the Corinthian churches to beready to accompany the donations and goods to Jerusalem. This "special collection"for the saints, or poor Christian people in Jerusalem, is not the TITHE COLLECTIONthat God has commanded to be collected at Sabbath worship service, but rather, aspecial collection of whatever goods or wares they may want to donate to the poor. They are reading something in these scriptures that is just notthere in order to satisfy their conscience and reasoning for keeping Sunday worship. Is there any mention here, or even the remotest hint, that God is changing over the

solemnity of His holy Sabbath worship day to Sunday?

(This concludes the first-day Bible texts in the New Testament). However, we willgo on to examine the remaining Bible scriptures that the Protestant churches claimfor their authority.

    (9) ROMANS 14: 5-6 (5) "ONE MAN ESTEEMETH ONE DAY ABOVE ANOTHER:ANOTHER ESTEEMETH EVERY DAY ALIKE. LET EVERY MAN BE FULLY PERSUADED IN

HIS OWN MIND, HE THAT REGARDETH THE DAY, REGARDETH IT UNTO THE LORD:AND HE THAT REGARDETH NOT THE DAY, TO THE LORD HE DOTH NOT REGARD IT.HE THAT EATETH, EATETH TO THE LORD, FOR HE GIVETH GOD THANKS; AND HE

THAT EATETH NOT, TO THE LORD HE EATETH NOT, AND NEITHER GIVETH GOD

THANKS." This is, perhaps, the most popular Bible text that the Sunday keeping Protestantchurches use to support their reason for worshipping on Sunday. If you will noticein verse 5, God istelling us of a day which "MAN" esteems and not the day that "GOD esteems as holyand sanctified for worship. The Seventh-day Sabbath of God was never includedhere because of the simple fact that only God can make anything holy andsanctified (or set apart) for holy use. What makes God's Seventh-day Sabbath holyis His presence in it. Some people esteem every day alike, not giving heed to God'sholy worship day, while others regard every day - or certain days - special to the

Lord, but they are not holy or sanctified days commanded by God to keep holyunder the penalty of sin, such as His Seventh-day Sabbath. Once again, this text inno way remotely suggests that God's holy Seventh-day Sabbath of worship isincluded in this rebuke by Paul to those in the church who are dedicated to causingconfusion in the new-found Christian church. Paul is certainly not speaking, ormaking of none effect, God's Fourth Commandment. In fact, this problem was notonly a problem in the church at Rome, but other churches as well, as we will seehere in a moment.

THE PROBLEMS IN THE EARLY CHRISTIAN CHURCH

It is very evident that there were many problems plaguing the early Christianchurch, and Paul had the tremendous task of having to bring the church unto God'sBiblical truths. Therefore, we must not take these scriptures out of context. Wemust look at the entire picture (or problem) and in order to do this, we must studythe Bible as God has commanded us "by searching the scriptures line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little, and there a little", (ISAIAH 28: 10; II TIMOTHY 2:15). When we do this, we will find the truth and in doing so, we will discover someof these troublesome problems that were being incorporated into the doctrines of God's church by men that were hindering its spiritual growth. GALATIANS 4: 8-11

    (8) "HOWBEIT THEN, When YE KNEW NOT GOD, YE DID SERVICE UNTO THEM WHICHBY NATURE ARE NO GODS. (9) BUT NOW, AFTER THAT YE HAVE KNOWN GOD, ORRATHER ARE KNOWN OF GOD, HOW THEN TURN YE AGAIN TO THE WEAK ANDBEGGARLY ELEMENTS. WHEREUNTO YE DESIRE AGAIN TO BE IN BONDAGE? (10) YEOBSERVE DAYS, AND MONTHS, AND TIME AND YEARS. (11) I AM AFRAID OF YOU,LEST I HAVE BESTOWED UPON YOU LABOUR IN VAIN." Even though many of thesepeople have been brought into the church, they still remain in their old customs of "esteeming", or observing pagan days and times of celebration or worship.

There were many problems in the early Christian church with the enjoining of thepagan (Gentile) and Jewish converts. Both were bringing their "man made"traditional beliefs into the church, causing great strife and controversy amongthemselves. Then there were the Jewish converts who were trying to enforce the"Sacrificial Ordinances of Moses" which dealt greatly with the special Sabbath days, holy days, or feast days. All of these were involved in sacrificing and in meat anddrink offerings. Some of these special feast days or holy days had from seven tofourteen straight holy days in a row, (TITUS 1: 10-14), and the Gentiles (GALATIANS4: 8-11). They all worshipped and observed days, months, times, and years. Weknow that these days which "man esteems" are not in any way being incorporatedwith God's Seventh-day Sabbath, because the Bible does not-and can not-contradict. Paul is not changing or doing away with God's Fourth Commandment, orany part of His holy law in any way. Paul does not have that authority, and Jesus

said He could destroy heaven and earth easier than it would be to alter one word inHis holy law. This is what the apostle Paul says in ROMANS 3: 31 "DO WE THENMAKE VOID THE LAW THROUGH FAITH? GOD FORBID: YEA (yes), WE ESTABLISH

THE LAW." ROMANS 7:7 "WHAT SHALL WE SAY THEN? IS THE LAW SIN? GODFORBID, NAY (no), I HAD NOT KNOWN SIN, BUT BY THE LAW: FOR I HAD NOTKNOWN LUST, EXCEPT THE LAW HAD SAID, THOU SHALT NOT COVET." Is Paulcontradicting himself here? Is he changing or altering God's law in any way? No,indeed. The apostle Paul was contending with the mixing of pagan mythical beliefsand Jewish customs (also known as JUDAIZING) with God's doctrinal truths. Paul istelling these churches that these beliefs, mixed together in the church, would havebeen devastating to the newborn Christian faith and churches.

  • 8/9/2019 Remember the Seventh-day Sabbath

    21/37

Paul tells us in his epistle to Titus that the Jews (or Judaizers) in the church weredoing great spiritual harm to those Jews and Gentiles who were seeking God's truthsinstead of the doctrines of men. TITUS 1:10-14,16 (10) "FOR THERE ARE MANYUNRULY AND VAIN TALKERS AND DECEIVERS, SPECIALLY THEY OF THECIRCUMCISION(Jews):(11) WHOSE MOUTHS MUST BE STOPPED, WHO SUBVERTWHOLE HOUSES, TEACHING THINGS WHICH THEY OUGHT NOT, FOR FILTHY LUCRE'SSAKE. (12) ONE OF THEMSELVES, EVEN A PROPHET OF THEIR OWN, SAID, THE

CRETIANS ARE ALWAYS LIARS, EVIL BEASTS, SLOW BELLIES. (13) THIS WITNESS IS TRUE, WHEREFORE, REBUKE THEM SHARPLY, THAT THEY MAY BE SOUND IN THEFAITH; (14) NOT GIVING HEED TO JEWISH FABLES AND COMMANDMENTS OF MEN,

THAT TURN FROM THE TRUTH. (16) THEY PROFESS THAT THEY KNOW GOD; BUT INWORKS THEY DENY HIM, BEING ABOMINABLE, AND DISOBEDIENT, AND UNTO EVERYGOOD WORK REPROBATE."

Once again, some of these special days that were esteemed by the Jews were thosedays that were involved with the sacrificing of animals for the remission of theirsins. Two suchspecial days were "THE FEAST OF BOOTHS" and "THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES", of which Jesus "nailed to His cross" because they were absorbed in sacrificing, whichwasnow done away with (COLOSSIANS 2: 14 and LEVITICUS 23: 4-39). And, of course, the Gentiles in Rome and throughout the Christian regions had many false gods foreach day of the week. The Bible does not-and can not-contradict. Paul, and thoseto whom he was writing, knew that the Seventh-day Sabbath of God was never tobe included in this discussion, and that is why Paul had no need to mention it. Isthere any mention here, or even the remotest hint, that God is changing over thesolemnity of His holy Sabbath day to Sunday? It was never mentioned, much lesschanged.

    (10) COLOSSIANS 2:14,16 (14) BLOTTING OUT THE HANDWRITING OF ORDINANCES

THAT WAS AGAINST US, WHICH WAS CONTRARY TO US, AND TOOK IT OUT OF THEWAY. NAILING IT TO HIS CROSS." (16) LET NO MAN THEREFORE JUDGE YOU INMEAT, OR IN DRINK, OR IN RESPECT OF AN HOLYDAY, OR OF THE NEW MOON, OROF THE SABBATH DAYS."

These texts are also used by the Protestant churches in their belief that God,through Paul, changed His fourth Commandment and Holy Sabbath day. However,in order to understand the true meaning of these texts, we must also read VERSES6-8, 22, (Remarks in parenthesis have been added). (6) "AS YE HAVE THEREFORERECEIVED CHRIST JESUS THE LORD, SO WALK YE IN HIM." (Jesus worshipped andkept holy His Father's Seventh day [Saturday] of worship). (7) "ROOTED AND BUILT

UP IN HIM, AND STABLISHED IN THE FAITH, AS YE HAVE BEEN TAUGHT, ABOUNDING THEREIN WITH THANKSGIVING." Jesus, the Apostles, and Paul established the faithby their acts and deeds, and they all worshipped God on His Seventh-day Sabbathof rest, accordingto the Fourth commandment, (MARK 1: 21-22; LUKE 4: 14-16; ACTS 17:2; ACTS 18:4,11).

It is made very plain and clear in the Bible which day God taught us to worship on.(8) "BEWARE LEST ANY MAN SPOIL YOU THROUGH PHILOSOPHY AND VAIN DECEIT,

AFTER THE TRADITION OF MEN, AFTER THE RUDIMENTS OF THE WORLD, AND NOTAFTER CHRIST." God is warning His church here that there are men who will be

was no longer the need for the separation in the Temple between the holy placeand the most holy place where the Holy Spirit of God dwelled in power behind theveil (or curtain).

Through the sacrifice of Jesus, there was no longer any need for the High Priest, orany priests, to make any more Sacrificial atonement for sin through the shed bloodof the sacrificial animals, in accordance with the ordinances of sacrificing. MARK 15: 37-38 (37) "AND JESUS CRIED WITH A LOUD VOICE, AND GAVE UP THE GHOST.(38) AND THE VEIL OF THE TEMPLE WAS RENT IN TWAIN FROM THE TOP TO THE

THE MIDDLE WALL OF PARTITION (veil) BETWEEN US (We no longer have to sacrificeanimals for the forgiveness of our sins). (15) HAVING ABOLISHED "IN THE FLESH"

    THE ENMITY, EVEN THE LAW OF COMMANDMENTS "CONTAINED IN ORDINANCES":(EXODUS 29:1-46; LEVITICUS 1: 1-17;

LEVITICUS, CHAPTERS 4 -trespass. "FOR TO MAKE IN HIMSELF, OF TWAIN ONE NEWMAN, SO MAKING PEACE." These "law of commandments" were the handwrittenordinances of God, written by Moses in a book, pertaining to the sacrificing of animals for sin, trespass offerings, oblations, meat and drink offerings, the continualcleansing of the sanctuary; altar; and purtenances, etc. Therefore, through thesacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the cross, "the middle partition or veil" in thetemple was rent (torn) in two from top to bottom, signifying its end forever. Is thereany mention here in these texts, or even the remotest hint, that God is changingover the solemnity of His holy Sabbath day of worship to Sunday? Absolutely not!

    (11) HEBREWS 1: 1-2 (1) "GOD WHO AT SUNDRY TIMES AND IN DIVERS MANNERSSPAKE IN TIME PAST UNTO THE FATHERS BY THE PROPHETS, (2) HATH IN THESELAST DAYS SPOKEN UNTO US BY HIS SON, WHOM HE HATH APPOINTED HEIR OF ALL

THINGS, BY WHOM ALSO HE MADE THE WORLDS:" There are some Christians thatsay, "See, God says "at sundry times." They have taken this to mean "at Sundaytimes." The word Sunday is never mentioned in all of God's Holy Bible. Theymistake the word SUNDRY for Sunday, when it simply means "DIFFERENT" orVARIOUS." This text means: God, who at sundry (various) times and in divers(different) manners, spokein time past.

    (12) (REVELATION 1: 10 "I WAS IN THE SPIRIT ON THE LORD'S DAY, AND HEARDBEHIND ME A GREAT VOICE, AS OF A TRUMPET." This is the last controversialSunday text in the Bible and/or New Testament that is used by the Sunday keepingProtestant churches for their authority in keeping Sunday over the Seventh-day(Saturday) Sabbath of God. They say that John the Revelator changed the worship

day here because he said he was in the spirit on the Lord's day. The major flaw inthis belief is that John never stated what specific day was the Lord's day. He nevermentions the first day of the week, or Sunday. In fact, this text points far morepositively to the Lord's day as being the Seventh-day Sabbath. We can prove thispoint by reading MARK 2: 28 "THEREFORE, THE SON OF MAN IS LORD ALSO OF THESABBATH." In these previous scriptures, the ministers in the church were accusing

Jesus of breaking the Sabbath, and Jesus is telling them that the Sabbath is His day,as it should be, because He is the Creator and, therefore, Lord of that day. If Jesusis the Lord of the Sabbath day, it would be far more logical and acceptable that Johnwas in the Spirit on none other than the Seventh-day Sabbath - not Sunday. Isthere any mention in this text, or even the remotest hint, that God has changed

over the solemnity of His holy Sabbath worship day of rest to Sunday? The answeris very plain and clear. No, indeed! We would now like to present some statementsmade by theology leaders and laymen on this important Biblical doctrine:

    (1) BAPTIST

Dr. Hiscox's solemn question and declaration: "There was, and is, a commandmentto keep holy the Sabbath day, but that Sabbath was not Sunday. It will be said, however, and withsome show of triumph, that the Sabbath was transferred from the seventh to thefirst day of the week, with all its duties, privileges, and sanctions. Earnestly desiringinformation onthis subject, which I have studied for many years, I ask, where can the record of such a transaction be found? Not in the New Testament, absolutely not. There isno scriptural evidence of the change of the Sabbath institution from the seventh tothe first day of the week...."

"Of course, I quite well know that Sunday did come into use in early Christianhistory as a religious day, as we learn from the Christian fathers and other sources. But what a pity that it comes branded with the mark of paganism, christened with

the name of the sun god, and bequeathed as a sacred legacy to Protestantism?" - - -- Dr. Edward T. Hiscox, author of the Baptist Manual, in a paper read before a New

    York Minister's Conference held November 13, 1893

    (2) LUTHERAN

"They (the Catholics) allege the Sabbath changed into Sunday, the Lord's day, contrary to the Decalogue, as it appears; neither is there any example moreboasted of than the changing of the Sabbath day. Great, say they, is the power andauthority of the church since it dispensed with one of the ten commandments." - - -- Augsburg Confession, article XXVIII.

    (3) CONGREGATIONALIST

It is quite clear that however rigidly or devoutly we may spend Sunday, we are notkeeping the Sabbath....The Sabbath was founded on a specific, divine command. We can plead no such command for the observance of Sunday....There is not a

single sentence in the New Testament to suggest that we incur any penalty byviolating the supposed sanctity of Sunday." The Ten Commandments, R. W. Dale,D.D. (Congregationalist), pp. 106-107, London: Hodder and Stoughton.

    (4) CHURCH OF ENGLAND

There is no word, no hint, in the New Testament about abstaining from work onSunday.... The observance of Ash Wednesday or Lent stands on exactly the samefooting as theobservance of Sunday.... Into the rest of Sunday no divine law enters" - - - - The TenCommandments, Canon Eyton (Church of England) London: Trubner.

    (5) CHRISTIAN

"I do not believe that the Lord's day came in the room of the Jewish Sabbath, or thatthe Sabbath was changed from the seventh day to the first day, for this plainreason, that wherethere is no testimony, there can be no faith. Now there is no testimony in all the

oracles of heaven that the Sabbath was changed, or that the Lord's day came in theroom of it...."Alexander Campbell (Candidus) in Washington (Pa.) Reporter, October 8, 1821.

    (6) PRESBYTERIAN

"The moral law doth forever bind all, as well justified persons as others, to theobedience thereof, and that not only in regard of the matter contained in it, but alsoin respect of the authority of God the Creator who gave it. Neither doth Christ inthe gospel any way dissolve, but much strengthen, this obligation." - - - -From theConstitution of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. *(They believe the TenCommandment Law is still inding, but yet they reject God's Fourth Commandment, the Seventh-day Sabbath, by keeping Sunday). *(Remarks in parenthesis supplied).

    (7) "It must be confessed that there is no law in the New Testamentconcerning the first day." (Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological, and EcclesiasticalLiterature, McClintock and Strong, Vol. IX, p. 196).

    (8) "The day was transferred from the seventh to the first day of the week, noton the ground of any particular command." (Philip Schaff, History of the ChristianChurch, Vol. 1 p. 478).

(THE EARLY CHRISTIAN CHURCH OBSERVED THE SABBATH)

    (9) "Consistently with this notion, the custom of meeting in synagogues for thepurpose of hearing the law and the Prophets read and expound was followed by Him(Jesus) and Hisdisciples,.... Thus giving rise to services of worship on the Sabbath Day in theChristian Church.... When Christianity was established as a distinct faith, itsadherents, following theexample of Jesus, observed the Sabbath with the evident intention of using it as ameans of spiritual edification." (New Standard Bible Dictionary, Funk and Wagnalls,1936, p. 792, italics supplied).

    (10) "As far as we can see, there was no thought on the part of the first"disciples" of ever discontinuing an observance to which, as Jews, they had beenaccustomed all their lives... where Jesus continued to form the main personnel of Christian communities, Sabbath observance still lived on." (Dictionary of theApostolic Church, Vol. 2, Scribner, 1922, p. 423).

    (11) "The Jewish Christians of the early church continued to observe theSabbath." (Encyclopedia Britannica, 1971, Vol. 19, p. 854).

    (12) "The early Christians kept the seventh day as a sabbath much after thefashion of other Jews. Gradually, the first day of the week came to be recognized asthe day on whichthe followers of Jesus would meet for worship." (The New International StandardBible Encyclopedia, Vol. IV, p. 2631).

    (13) "The almost total silence of the epistles in relation to keeping the Sabbathdoubtless grew out of the fact that the early Christians kept the Sabbath, and thatthis period was one of change from the seventh to the first day of the week. Anydefinite rules would have been sure to be misunderstood. For many years both thefirst and seventh days of the week were kept as a Sabbath; and gradually the firstday of the week, the Lord's day, took the place among Christians of the seventhday, and they had the fullest warrant for the change." (Peloubet's Bible Dictionary,

1947, p. 572, italics supplied).... *(If you will notice in this statement, as well as inall the others, there is no mistaking the true Bible Seventh-day (Saturday) Sabbathof worship. It is also stated here that "they had the fullest warrant for the change",but notice how none of them give the authority or the scriptural reference as towhere God made the change. In fact, none of these statements have been backedup by any scriptural authority, or references in those statements that believe theSabbath was changed).

    (14) "It is clear that Jesus, His disciples, and the Jewish Christians observed theSabbath.... "The primitive church in Palestine was almost entirely Jewish and assuch continued Sabbath observance; it was a social necessity. (The NewInternational Dictionary of the Christian Church, 1974, pp. 870, 939).

Here is a statement with a little different approach. The authors readily admit that Jesus, His disciples (the Apostles also, including Paul, long after their deaths) and allof the

Jewish and Greek converts worshipped God on His Seventh-day Sabbath. This, Imight add, continued on for several centuries after the death and resurrection of

Jesus Christ. However, it was not only Jewish Christians, but all Christiansworshipped on God's holy Sabbath day for over 350 years after the death of Jesus.

My questions are these: They refer to Jesus as being JEWISH, which he was, is, andalways will be. At what time after his death did Jesus stop becoming a Jew? If thisis so, whenexactly did Jesus and all of His dead prophets, the ancient faithful Israelites, theoriginal twelve apostles and their faithful followers become Christians after theirdeaths? But note where they say "IT WAS A SOCIAL NECESSITY." The truth of thematter is that it was not a social necessity; it was and still is the FourthCommandment of God. No one comes under the penalty of sin and the second (oreternal) death for failing to keep a social necessity. However, to break or fail tokeep God's commandments (including the Fourth Commandment to keep holy theSeventh-day Sabbath and refrain from all work), most certainly does come under

the penalty of sin and the eternal death. EXODUS 20: 8-11).

It is clearly seen that these statements are primarily in reference to the keeping of the Sabbath by the early Christian Jews. But once again, the question that must beasked is: Was the Ten Commandments given by God for the Jews only? Who didGod make the Sabbath for; the Jews, or man? God gives us the answer very plainand clear in MARK 2: 27 "AND HE SAID UNTO THEM, THE SABBATH WAS MADE FORMAN, AND NOT MAN FOR THE SABBATH": The Sabbath was made for MAN, and notthe Jews only. All of these statements agree and admit that the Seventh day wasindeed the true day of worship as commanded by God, and that it was changed to

Sunday. Keep in mind, also, that not one statement had given any evidence of scriptural authority whatsoever for the change; Why? BECAUSE THERE IS NONE.

    (FROM THE CATHOLIC CHURCH)

In the following statements, we will discover the truth about the controversybetween the Seventh-day Sabbath and the first day of the week worshipobservance. We are going to see who truly made the change of the solemnity of God's Seventh-day Sabbath and its transfer to Sunday, the first day of the week. Itis not only very plain and clear but believable, as well. It is also in perfect harmonywith God's prophetic message of DANIEL 7: 25 AND HE SHALL SPEAK GREATWORDS AGAINST THE MOST HIGH, AND SHALL WEAR OUT THE SAINTS OF THEMOST HIGH, AND THINK TO CHANGE TIMES AND LAWS:....."

    (1) "The Catholic Church for over one thousand years before the existence of aProtestant, by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday toSunday.... TheChristian Sabbath is therefore to this day, the acknowledged offspring of theCatholic Church as Spouse of the Holy Ghost, without a word of remonstrance fromthe Protestant world." (The Catholic Mirror, Sept. 23, 1893)

    (2) Written about A.D. 277 by Archelaus: "Again, as to the assertion that theSabbath has been abolished, we deny that He has abolished it plainly; for He w
