beekeeper releases third album shout at people February 9th at The Biltmore Cabaret Shout At People is a glimpse into the mad machinations of this post- pop math rock trio. Dubbed “the by-product of combining extremely nice and highly talented music nerds” (Discorder), beekeeper are preparing to record a full length album in 2013, as well as touring their new EP and playing shows, festivals, and unorthodox special events. Formed in 2009 by comedian Devon Lougheed and drumming polymath Luke Cyca, beekeeper released their debut record BE KEPT in 2010, which e Georgia Straight called “a rambunctious debut [that] deserves a sack full of gold stars.” After being joined by bass player and opera singer Brandi Sidoryk in 2011, beekeeper released a 7” EP, Take Me Back (To e Place), praised as “a dizzy flight through genre and style,” (Vancouver Weekly) reminiscent of the “golden era of college rock” (Georgia Straight). After a successful year of Canadian touring, beekeeper was chosen to participate in the prestigious PEAK Performance Project 2012. More an a Feeling Music called them “the most intriguing band of the entire PEAK this year”, and the trio honed their performance working with leaders in the Canadian music industry to record new tracks that showcase beekeeper’s polish, mastery, and control, resulting in this brand new EP. Recorded and mixed at e Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, Shout At People showcases beekeeper’s skillful balancing of chaos and control, with an ability to continually captivate and surprise even their veteran listeners. Alternately heartwarming and menacing, engag- ing and bewildering, Shout At People proves that beekeeper is a band for anyone willing to admit they’re a little bit weird at heart. It starts out with an impossibly dense and comedic 40-second-long song called “Bees” before delving into solid indie pop-rock territory with “It’s e Blood”. “I Don’t Need Hope, I Need Whiskey” is an A.D.D. romp through e Pixies and Weezer. e psycho-love theme of “Oh Hi!” melds punk rock singalongs with country ditties and an orchestra of kazoos. e EP closes with “Good News” a hooked-up pop song that combines the band’s penchant for changing time signatures and styles with quirky lovestruck lyrics. Shout At People is a glimpse into the mad machinations of this post-pop math rock trio.
