System Requirements• PC running Windows 2000, XP, Vista or Windows 7. (Windows 2000 users

require DirectX 9.0 for video calls).• Internet connection – broadband is best (GPRS is not supported for voice

calls).• Speakers and microphone – built-in or separate.• For voice and video calls we recommend a computer with at least a 1GHz

processor, 256 MB RAM and of course a webcam.• For High Quality Video calls you will need a high quality video webcam and

software, a dual-core processor computer and a fast broadband connection (384 kbps).

Installation NotesSkype for Windows provides two methods for installation.

The main method is via a download from our website. This version of the download is delivered to the end user in two parts:

• A “Light installer”, − Manages the download process - if you have any hardware or network

issues, the download can be resumed without the need to start again.− Learn about Skype features while Skype downloads and installs− Size: Approximately 1.6Mb

• The Skype application (remainder)− Size: Approximately 19Mb

An alternative method is via a “Full Installer”. This version is available in a single installer file, and is useful for:

• Installation where an internet connection is not available• Size: Approximately 22Mb• Users who wish to retain a copy of the application to install at a later date,

A number of user options are available during standard installation (the options available will depend on your browser and location settings):

The following components are created in the Windows operating system:• Desktop icon – starts the application• Start menu items – Start > All Programs > Skype• System tray icon – used to show presence status; indicates new messages;

right-click to quit Skype completely• Task bar icon – flashes when a new message is received

Upgrades

Skype recommends that you regularly update your version of Skype, in order to ensure you have installed the latest features, call quality improvements, bug fixes and security updates. You can find out if you have the latest version by selecting “Check for updates” from the Help menu.

You do not need to uninstall Skype in order to perform an upgrade.

Uninstalling Skype

Skype is listed in the Windows Add or Remove Programs list (see Windows Control Panel). All entries relating to Skype, are shown in the list with the “Skype” name.

Known IssuesThe following table describes the most common issues that users may experience while using this version. Skype is working hard to resolve these issues, and will release further updates as soon as possible.

In some rare cases when sending video from a Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000, the local preview may freeze. The other side will still receive video normally.

The Skype video snapshots feature is not working on Windows XP SP3.

The ASUS virtual webcamera remains open after terminating a video call.

Select the actual camera in Options->Video or uninstall the problematic virtual software.

My Video Preview with ATI Rage series graphics cards, when using 16bit color depth, does not render picture correctly.

Use 32bit color depth.

Audio The microphones of the TouchCam N1 and Twincam encoding cameras generates CPU spikes in every 20 seconds that may result in lower video quality.

Avoid using the encoding camera microphone.

Calling It rarely happens that calls are not successful when two users call each other at exactly the same time


Call Quality Indicator

The Call Quality Indicator shows a false error message that your webcam is in use by other application, even if it is not in use anymore.

Call Quality Indicator says "Medium" quality for a high quality video call with Logitech pro 9000 webcameras on both sides.


Call Transfer Transferring a call to a phone contact and Skype user at the same time will cause the call to disconnect for the Skype user when the phone contact answers the call.

Skype Access The Skype Access connection offering does not pop-up correctly when trying to connect to supported hotspot after starting Skype up.

No warning message is being displayed when closing a conversation with the close button in compact mode.


Presence The automatic 'Away' status setting doesn't work if it has been set a long time ago.

Users with screen readers may have problems noticing the new authorization requests in the Notification tab.


Notifications Skype notifications about account changes can be delayed by a few hours.


Browser plugin Skype browser plugins for Internet Explorer and Firefox ignore meta tag not to highlight phone numbers.

When a user opens their web browser with no network connectivity, Skype displays an error message that SkypeNames.exe wants to use Skype. This happens when opening Firefox for the first time after installing Skype with the IE and Firefox add-ons.

Skype's Firefox browser plugin can not be uninstalled from the Firefox Extensions panel on Windows Vista and 7.

Uninstall Skype web features from Add or Remove programs dialogue.

The Skype browser plugin highlights phone numbers and names while creating content on various popular websites.

Disable Skype browser plugins on affected webpages.

Extras ManagerAn error message appears when the Extras Manager is started while Adobe Flash Player is not installed.

Install Adove Flash Player before opening Extras Manager.

Video in mood DailyMotion videos which have been added to a mood message are not being displayed to other contacts.


Localization The country drop down list in the call phones tab is not localized to Russian.
