Bugfix release Version V4.06.02

This is a bugfix release for PRISMAproduction Server V4.06. The actual release is V4.06.02. It contains all fixes that have continuously been made and implemented since V4.06 has been M6 released.

Océ PRISMAproduction Server - one of Océ’s core platforms - is a high performance output management system for corporate and commercial market segments. This solution creates a unified - converged - platform for mid to very high volume transaction printing, and simultaneously for publishing-type document printing. This platform can manage a variety of printing systems, spanning the full gamut of output speeds.

• Can handle any application for monochrome and CustomTone printing in the transactional environment AND Graphic Arts segment. Since Version 4.0, the main focus is on full color support.

• Can process virtually any input standard print description language with a wide range of supported media, input types and protocols.

• Is focused mainly on output to high-speed IPDS devices. Nevertheless non-IPDS devices like PCL, PS and LCDS devices are supported also. At a minimum, almost any device can be supported in pass-through mode.

• Has an easy to use, well designed graphical user interface. It can be operated in multiple instances from any Windows/Linux based system which is network connected to the PRISMAproduction server and supports Java(R).

• Implements a modular, scalable concept to match exactly to the customer's needs at any time. An installation can connect to one or to multiple cutsheet and continuous feed printing systems. The rip / translation power can be increased just by adding servers to the cluster. An installation can grow from one single print site to multiple inter-connected print sites across the world.

• Offers the PRISMAproduction high availability solution. This option minimizes production downtime and maximizes protection against job loss.

• Offers several functions like batch management, barcode enrichment and scan-to-reprint supporting specifically automated book production in low copy counts down to one. These are packaged under the license name “BookPro option”.

• Removes the need for pre-printed forms with the introduction of the eForms feature which allows overlaying variable data with static repeated forms.

2 New features and enhancements

2.1 New printers supported The printer model Jetstream 4300 is supported for IPDS Driver and Generic Driver. The printer models VarioPrint 110, 120 and 135 are supported for IPDS Driver.

2.2 Cosmos connector The COSMOS workflow engine can be connected to PRISMAproduction Server via the new interface cosmos_connector. Please see the Administration Guide chapter 13 for details.

4.8 Requirements

4.8.1 Operating system This release is running on SuSE Linux with the versions as shown in the following table. In addition a Windows 2003 Server or a Windows 2008 Server R2 64 bit is required in case the PRISMAproduction Viewer is to be used with the Native Viewer Server (NVS) (formerly called “Viewer RIP Server” VRS):

When using NVS with Windows 2008 Server R2 64 bit there are some limitations: 1. A 64 bit version of CodeMeter must be installed by the user manually. Also,

the IP where the dongle is located must be entered manually in “Server Search List”.

2. An SNMP related warning appears during installation, but it can be ignored. 3. The Functional Code consoles are not visible.

For continuous operation in production environments the Native Viewer Server (NVS) has been successfully tested on the server hardware supported for PRISMAproduction with Windows 2008 Server R2 64 bit and Windows 2003 Server R2 Standard Edition.

NVS can also be used with Windows XP Professional SP3 if a dedicated server is used and the same hardware requirements are met. However, as Windows XP is not designed to guarantee reliable and continuous operation, this cannot be guaranteed either for the use of NVS then.

4.8.2 Java runtime system

For using the java launcher a java runtime system must be installed on the client. Java runtime systems from V1_5_0_16 to V6u13are known to show problems and can not be used. It's recommended to use version V6u34 which was used during the testing phase. The recommended installer is delivered with the DVD under tools_win\Java Runtime.

4.8.3 Windows software A Windows server used for PRISMA launcher needs Adobe FlashPlayer installed when dashboard or floorplan application shall be used.

4.8.4 Server hardware Main memory, Hard Disk and CPU requirements:

New installations should always be equipped with 4 GB RAM minimum. Upgrades from V4.00 / 4.02 will work with a similar performance than before with a minimum of 2 GB RAM as long as no V4.04/V4.06-specific features are added. A minimum of 73 GB hard disk size: 15 GB required for the root file system ( / ) and 2 GB for swap 50 GB minimum size for installing and running PRISMAproduction on the /u file system. Free disk space on the /u file system must be at least 20% at runtime! A second CPU is required for parallel data processing. E.g.: Parallel POD data conversion or parallel printing of various printers or parallel conversion / printing. Running I/O intensive tasks or several printers in parallel, a RAID system (Base2) will greatly improve performance. Minimum of additional 2 GB RAM and free 8 GB of disk space on /u file system is needed on the PRISMAproduction Master server running the Integrated Viewer Server. Minimum of 2 GB RAM is needed on a dedicated Windows 2003 Server R2 for running the PRISMAproduction Native Viewer Server (see chapter 4.8.1 for details).

The Native Viewer Server also requires a dedicated system, no other applications or services are allowed on this server.

Basic VMware requirements

The VMware guest must be an x86, 32-bit compatible CPU environment. The VMware operating system must be ESX or ESXi. The VMware host must have an INTEL Nehalem (QDI) or equivalent AMD architecture. The VMware host must be based on INTEL VT or AMD pacifica technology. The hard drives must be a SAS based RAID technology. For driving the printer dedicated network card(s) must be used. Only one productive PRISMAproduction Server may run on one host system. To create a Cluster, multiple host systems with a dedicated network are required. A single VM instance can contain (resource wise) multiple Base x servers, the memory resource is to be added together. A hardware dongle server is needed for the licenses. The functionality of the ESX Cluster functions can be limited or even not possible (for example Live Migration).

4.8.5 CodeMeter Dongle

The CodeMeter firmware release has to be 1.18 or higher. To update the firmware it is required to plug the dongle to a machine that has an internet connection. Please only use one of the CodeMeter Control Center versions that are distributed with this DVD on tools_win/WiBu CodeMeter.

4.8.6 Printers

The PJL Backend requires OCÉ FC higher than V3.08.35. VarioStream 9240 full color support requires OCÉ functional code higher than V4.02.41.

4.8.7 Licenses The license keys are not used during PRISMA installation. All PRISMAproduction packages are installed. After login as PRISMA user only the licensed modules will be available. If PRISMAproduction is installed, you can use the Océ License Manager to view the licenses on your system. IPDS printers from 3rd party vendors must comply with the standard for IPDS printers as defined by the AFP Consortium <http://www.afpcolor.org>. Except for the printers mentioned in the table above no such printers have been included in QA processing

Important notice for users of the Microlite BackupEDGE: Due to major upgrades and new features in the scheduler within the new version V3 of BackupEDGE, the migration of V2 configuration cannot be done automatically. For details of the migration path, please see the respective chapter in the Admin Guide chapter 12: Backup Solutions -> BackupEDGE: Installation and Configuration -> Upgrade BackupEDGE. Note: The Océ Windows Printer Driver is available on the distribution media in the /tools_win/Windows Printer Driver V4.06.01-1 folder addressing the APA or PCL Module. It can also be downladed from the Poing ftp server https://webftp.ops.de . 6 Restrictions and known problems

Issue Type Installation With downgrade of PRISMAproduction V4.06 to a version older than V4.04.04 the installation process will hang. In order to avoid this problem please delete the *.ini files in the directory /u/prismapro/cfg/jobinput before starting the installation of the older PRISMAproduction version.

Finishing “Support of printer post-processing options for Canon iPR C7000VP, Canon iR ADV 90x0 PRO and Océ VP 6000” have the following restrictions: Supported in IPDS-Mode are only bookletmaker, stitcher/stacker and puncher. With the APA workflow there does not exist a special GUI for defining the finishing operations. These can be defined in the APA Settings GUI. For details see the CIS User Guide page 165 with the parameter DEFINEFINISHINGOP85.

PDC & PDC GUI The new PDC GUI is not contained in this release. It is planned to be released on top of this Bugfix release with controlled field introduction. For documentation of PDC please refer to the PDCV402_EN.pdf in the folder /doc/manuals of the distribution DVD.

Rename operation (performed from the “Server files” workspace) has a minor refresh problem that only appears sometimes: a duplicated file appears.

Postscript Driver Using the PS Backend in raw streaming mode to a VP6000 and “IP=1” setting (in order to monitor the jobs), the feedback from the VP6000 via SNMP is not working correctly and the jobs will not end-up in the “finished” status. The reason for this behavior is still under investigation on Controller side. For the time being, either send the job via lp (with job monitoring) or with raw socket streaming and IP=0 (without job monitoring).

The second version of Accounting DB schema (since Ppro 4.06.00) has been enhanced starting with Ppro 4.06.01. In Ppro 4.06.00 the schema is installed in PPACC_V2 "pp10" SQL schema whereas in Ppro 4.06.01 the schema is installed in PPACC_V2 "pp11" SQL schema. All the customers are requested to upgrade their custom queries from pp10 schema to pp11 schema.

The report template StandardOCE_PrintedToner present in Ppro 4.06.00 has been renamed in Ppro V4.06.01 to StandardOCE_InkConsumption. Thus the reporting configurations backed up in Ppro V4.06.00 and restored in Ppro V4.06.01 which contain report definitions (entries in Configuration->Reporting->Report top table) are not valid. Please delete these entries in Ppro 4.06.01 and add new entries based on newly renamed StandardOCE_InkConsumption.

Don’t set up a firewall configuration on the Linux system, unless you are already using the firewall. Otherwise all other PRISMA services will stop. A corrected Admin Guide (Edition A29247-X1-406-71_2012-10) will be made available as soon as possible.

Rarely, the Viewer GUI appears to hang with the status ‘Loading page…’ and no information is received from ImageCreatorService in the “Messages” window. To recover from this state, please restart IVS, or, for native case, de-configure (delete) viewer IP, restart Native Viewer Server and re-configure viewer IP.

7 Useful information

7.1 Subsequent Hardware modification In case of a modification of a PCI device on an already installed server, the card bus-IDs can be changed by the system bios. This results in a situation that SLES may not be able to match an existing configuration to the current devices.

This situation was seen after subsequent adding of SCSI-Adapters for printing. Then the X-Window configuration cannot detect the graphic adapter anymore and X will not start. In such a case, please reconfigure X by entering runlevel 3 and calling of sax2.

7.2 USB, ACPI and HyperThreading PRISMAproduction is using a USB Dongle, so USB must be enabled in system bios. Hint: if the dongle does not blink after plugging, USB is probably not enabled.

ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) does not have to be disabled anymore. Following main features are available after enabling:

Power off after shutdown HyperThreading

To enable ACPI, remove the statement “acpi=off“ in section “Linux” in the file “/boot/grub/menu.lst”.

Attention: be sure not to change the syntax of the file and do not remove “acpi=off” in section “Failsafe”.

7.3 AFP2IPDS Backend ( “SPS V5” ) Power Off device while ACTIVE: Power Off and afterwards Power On leads to a

deadlock, printer must be reset in PRISMA. This is a normal reaction with TCPIP attached printers.

Interposer Sheets Due to a general AFP restriction in conjunction with AFP2IPDS Backend and the Océ IPDS cutsheet printers, it can not be prevented, that the printer tries to print data on a sheet pulled out of an interposer tray. If this happens, print data for this sheet will be lost.

SCSI connect If LVD SCSI cards are used in combination with LVD to HVD converter, the converter must be powered off during booting if the printer is also powered off.

7.4 Output bins on VarioPrint 6000 Series with I-Mode In order to drive the VP6000 series (e.g. VP6250) with output bins, please configure a VP6250 with IPDS driver and add the following output devices (depending on the given printer hardware), which are equivalent to the VP3090 printer.

The output devices based on a VP5160 configuration (1, 2, 240-243) may be deleted for a VP6000 with IPDS-Mode.

7.5 LCDS Module LCDS is basically a 300 DPI application per definition. It may be printed on 600 DPI / MRM Printers, but 300 DPI setting of printer is recommended esp. in case of inefficient coded LCDS customer application (e.g. in order to avoid rescaling of 300dpi images to 600dpi by AFP2IPDS backend). Also in cases where printer optimization during rescale of font-bitmaps from 300dpi 600dpi is not wanted (e.g. unwanted “smoothing” of 300dpi 2-D barcode), 300dpi Setting on the printer is recommended. In case of /370 data input and started ifilter/xfilter process chain, the StartTimeOut value is not used and the input process remains active, even if no data is sent down the channel for a time longer than defined in StartTimeOut. In this case, delete the respective job e.g. in the “All job” view. In special cases (in the respective case printing to an IBM FanFold ) the following problem may occur: i.) A printer, configured as 300 or MRM printer, which is actually able to print 600 DPI. ii.) Printer is activated and the 600 DPI is read by the spool and written in the printer configuration of PRISMAproduction iii.) A 300 DPI LCDS job will not be printed, if the DPI check is enabled for the spool / printer settings in printer pool. In this case, please switch off this DPI check. Since V4.04 it is possible to assign 2 LCDS Module licenses to one ODS Server in the license configuration window. This option may be useful to work on multi-core/multi-CPU servers efficiently with the LCDS converter workflow.

General hints Information for LCDS mirroring: The directories “/u/prismapro/data/cat/<catalog names>” and “/u/prismapro/” must be on the same partition of the server, like in the default installation case. Hint for LCDS driver and LCDS_DL_input script LCDS converter: For LCDS driver (jes) and LCDS Jobs (.LCDS_DL_input) certain parameters like brackets, “blank” AND (^/&"§%(){[]}\?) etc. esp. in job name and download parameters like “room” are illegal characters and automatically replaced by an “_” ( including respective message”) to avoid problems later in the workflow or during generation/printing of banner pages. Please note, that “#” as important mainframe character is supported. For file copy/File transfer actions using the resource manager in the explorer file system within subcatalogs with many files, the “GCI” file system, having better performance as the “LCDS” files system, is recommended as the preferred file system. The LCDS demo job / LCDS test job is made for the use case of a single (master) server. With an ODS cluster you probably have to change the respective lcdsdemo.TIC regarding the catalog host and the printer in order to make it working on a Print/RIPserver. DJDE LOGO positioning could not be tested, due lack of HW (4890). Intensive benchmarking must be done for customers using DJDE LOGO. With LCDS Resources Import the output directory is preset with “$XRESOURCE@<server>/.” . If you choose a $GCI subcatalog and change back to $XRESOURCE you have to type in the “.” as current directory to choose. With LCDS Resources Import with $GCI only subcatalogs work as output directories. The resources will not be distributed automatically to different subcatalogs depending on their extension, as there are more extensions supported than subcatalogs.

For interpreting the Metacode feature “dimension” (=“Replicate and trim”) with AFP Standard, the shading- and line-pattern of the FORMS$ are used, which is the standard Xerox font for graphic pattern. If non-standard graphic fonts like FORMSX etc., with different pattern / cells are used, this may result in different printouts. LCDS Help: In PJM: LCDS GUI context sensitive help is implemented on page level. All buttons in the pages “general | feed | preprocess” point to the begin of the respective page. The context sensitive help for the GUI’s LCDS resource ex- | import are working normally. The context sensitive help for the self explaining GUI “LCDS resources” is currently worked on. Due to restrictions in AFP font lists, LCDS supports 128 fonts in the main (un-rotated) direction (128 is regarded as the XEROX maximum) and 126 fonts in the rotated direction, which is e.g. used for shading fonts. Due to cost-optimizing and replacement by other new 3rd party printers, the LCDS High Light Color Reference Printer 4850 is not available any more. Therefore very specific highlight color -- e.g. pixel dependent resource, metacode and extreme data constellations -- problems can only be solved with substantial support of the respective OpCo (original print out, reengineering tasks). This may result in longer bug fixing time. Normal highlight color problems -- in case they should occur -- like e.g. INKINDEX interpretation, will be fixed based on know-how and experience in the normal manner. The mirroring concept is based on hard disk jobs (esp. via input modules or PJM). For LCDS Restart of Jobs for the LCDS Driver use case, an LCDS Converter Ticket with Preprocess Settings (3rd LCDS Tab in File settings) may be used. If you want to do changes in this tab, an IPDS Printer has to be selected in the PJM Job Section. For changes in the Jes / LCDS Driver tab, please choose an LCDS printer. In a later bugfix version, the LCDS PJM GUI may be enhanced, so that both tabs can be edited in parallel. Please note, that usually it does not make sense, to set both PCC Types in these tabs to ANSI, since then 2 ANSI IBM3211 conversions are performed, which is usually not wanted.

7.6 Unity & Unity+ PDF: Since Adobe PDF Reference 5th Edition PDF1.6 limited the maximum string constant length to 32,767 which was 65,535 in previous PDF specifications, there is a problem with PDF data generated in a format lower than 1.6 which contains strings longer than 32,767. These jobs cannot be printed. Unity RIP and/or the Printer RIP will show an error. PDF Preflight will show the error only when you check for structural issues. Due PDF being page independent, even Acrobat Reader will only show an (unspecific) error when you position to the page containing the long string.

7.7 PS Backend Hints for the AFP2PS conversion for the POD Module and APA/LCDS Module

(general AFP) Barcode for the general AFP converter, when converted into PostScript, is generally readable by barcode reader, but may be different in size. The human readable text may be presented in a different font of similar size. A new parameter STOP_ON_MISSING_RES has been introduced in the APA section of the printer configuration. It’s purpose is to control the behavior on a missing resources for APA-jobs. It’s default setting is 2, which means that the converter immediately stops converting if a missing resource is detected. Note: this is an incompatible change to the former behavior of the converter where all missing resources were replaced by default.

7.8 AFP2PDF

Currently no “AFP-nup” is supported.PCL Module 7.8.1 PCL Printer with OPS Functional Code

Using "Print Range" and "Set_Offset" Function: Technical background: The PJL Backend uses PJL keywords for the "Print Range" and "Set_Offset" function and adds a new, outer PJL header in front of the original PCL data. If this original PCL5e data already has PJL headers, the parameters of these inner PJL headers overwrite the information of the outer PJL header. Therefore the Print Range info, added by the PJL Backend, may be lost. If this is crucial, we recommend not to use PJL header in the original PCL data or to delete it. The "-PJL" option of the PRISMAproduction PCL filter will delete the respective PJL commands: The following new feature in the PCL filter rpm 4.06.01-3 for PRISMAproduction V4.06.01 or higher may be helpful here. The native PJL service scans for a new file “/u/prismapro/cfg/pcl_filter/tmp_PJL_config.txt” and -- if present -- adds an additional PCL-Filter run with this config file. If you create this file and e.g. add the "-PJL" option, all lines (PJL Header and text) in between a UEL “<esc>&-12345X” and "@PJL ENTER LANGUAGE=PCL" (in upper case) are deleted (including both lines). If this file is not present, no extra action is done. Please note, that this feature is a temporary feature. We consider enhancing the PJL backend in a future version to avoid problems due to nested PJL headers. Then this feature may be discontinued. See also the file /u/prismapro/cfg/pcl_filter/config.txt and the inline help in this text file, which may be used as a template for this use case. Using Color Setup. The Color Setup (introduced for CS9000/CS10000) was discontinued as a PJL interface in the FC Bundle 14. Please use the new configuration setup. On the Printer GUI e.g. CS3500, you are able to link a color setup to a general configuration job-setup. In PRISMAproduction use e.g. for CS3500: PJL Backend --> Print Parameters --> LI section --> Setup.

7.8.2 Hints VP6000 series printers can be equipped with two different PCL RIPs. If an SRA controller is used the PCL RIP is designed for mainly transactional printing and can be driven via raw socket printing only. Otherwise the (Non-SRA-) controller is designed for document printing and can be driven via LPR and raw socket.

7.9 TrueProof access 7.9.1 TrueProof Viewer and TrueProof Browser

The integration of TrueProof V4 based on the PRISMA guidelines is in progress. Actual TrueProof V4.0 has to be started from the TrueProof Client icon on the Linux desktop. For compatibility with existing TrueProof V2.20 installations the up to now used access method for TrueProof V2.20 is still supported.

7.10 Reporting Restored report configurations (imported from PP V4.04 into PP V4.06) may have a slightly different look and feel.

The actual set of SuSE patches will be installed during the installation of new servers in the Poing plant. For obtaining the current SuSE patches please contact your local Océ representative.
