NOTICE ON TRAINING COURSE “REGULATION FOR SHIPPING OF DANGEROUS GOODS BY SEA (IMDG CODE)”

Course Dates : 9th to 12th August, 2016.

Course Details a) Introduction

Dangerous Goods are articles or substances that are capable of posing a risk to health, safety, property or the environment. Dangerous goods are very unlikely to cause a problem when they are prepared, handled and transported in accordance with these Regulations. The successful application of the provisions pertaining to safe transport of dangerous goods by sea are greatly dependent on the appreciation by all individuals concerned of the risks involved and on a detailed understanding of these provisions. This can only be achieved by properly planned and maintained initial and recurrent training programmes for all persons concerned in the transport of dangerous goods. Accordingly as per IMDG Code chapter 1.3, training is now made mandatory for all shore-based personnel engaged in the transport of dangerous goods intended to be transported by sea. DGM India Academy of Logistics, a foremost training academy in Regulation of Dangerous Goods Transportation, brings to interested stakeholders, its second public programme on “Regulation for Shipping Dangerous Goods by Sea- IMDG Code”. The Training requirements specific to security of dangerous goods in chapter 1.4 shall also be addressed.

b) Course Objective: To meet the training requirement as specified in IMDG Code chapter 1.3.1.1 for shore based personnel of logistics companies and shippers/manufacturers/exporters shipping dangerous goods. More specifically, the course objective is to enable the participants to:- a) Apply the IMDG Code correctly in shipping dangerous goods b) Understand the background to IMDG Code and legal aspects involved c) Understand the meaning of Dangerous Goods from perspective of the Regulation and

differentiate it from hazardous material d) Identify and differentiate the nine classes of dangerous goods by their principle criteria e) Identify the dangerous goods from their UN number and Proper shipping name f) Understand and study the significance of Packaging to minimize and eliminate the risk in

shipping dangerous goods, package specification and testing and packing instructions g) Properly mark and label a dangerous goods package and verify that the marking and labelling

requirement have been correctly met h) Understand Stowage and Segregation requirements for incompatible dangerous goods in

respect of packing in one outer package, storage in warehouse, loading them in containers and stacking of containers on board the ships.

i) Complete a dangerous goods transport document and verify that the information provided thereon complies with the IMDG Code

c) Methodology The course will consist of mixtures of lectures, exercises, readings of specific paragraph from the IMDG Code volumes 1 & 2, participants discussion and practical demonstrations whenever possible. Student hand-out material will be given to each participant. The Reference book will be the IMDG Code in two volumes, which will be shared between two participants for the duration of the course.

d) Target audience for this Training Course: a) Shippers or Exporters shipping dangerous goods other than radioactive material b) Logistics company personnel involved in transport of dangerous goods by sea, container

loading/unloading of such material c) Students or Freshers who want to make a career in shipping industry

e) Commercial/Course Fees:- 1. Interested person will need to fill the enclosed application form, complete them and mail

to them to [email protected] along with payment details. 2. Course Fee shall be Rs.12,500 per participant, plus applicable Service Tax. 3. Course Fee shall include course hand out material, use of IMDG code, lunch and two

teas on all days. 4. Course fee will have to be paid in advance of the programme. Participants will not be

accepted into the course without payment of fees. 5. Fees once paid will not be refunded but in case of emergency the participant will be

allowed to sit for another course if he/she is not able to attend the course registered for. 6. Fees shall be payable in favour of “DANGEROUS GOODS MANAGEMENT INDIA

f) Examination, Certification and Validity:- 1. A three hours open book examination will be conducted at the end of the course on the last

day. 2. Participants scoring 80% or more will be declared as Pass and those with 90% or more

Pass with Distinction. Such participants will be issued Certification of Passing and meeting the requirement for training of personnel for signing of Shipper’s declaration.

3. The validity of this Certificate will be for period for two years from the date given in the Certificate. Before the expiry of the two years period, participants will have to appear for the Recurrent course as specified in the IMDG Code.

4. Course reference would be the new edition of the IMDG Code (2014), Amendment 37-14, which has come into effect from 01st January, 2016.
