8:00-8:50 a.m. THE ROLE OF POSTERIOR VITRECTOMY IN OPHTHALMOLOGYHugh Parsons, MD, FRCSC, Dipl. ABOThis course will review what a posterior vitrectomy is and how it works. The indications and use of posterior vitrectomy will also be discussed.

8:50-9:40 a.m. THE EVOLUTION OF CORNEA TRANSPLANT Alfonso Iovieno, MD, PhD, FRCSC This lecture will discuss the recent innovations in keratoplasty techniques and describe indications, management, outcomes, and complications of corneal transplantation.

9:40-9:55 a.m. BREAK

9:55-10:45 a.m. OCT IMAGING ANALYSIS AND PITFALLS Sripriya Rajagopalan, DNB, MRCS, MRCOphth, FRCSCThe purpose of this course is to discuss what the aspects a clinician is looking for in OCT analysis and what technical aspects are involved with the reliability of the scan.

10:45-11:35 a.m. COMPLICATIONS OF CATARACT SURGERY John Huang, MD, FRCSC, Dipl. ABOThis interactive session will review complications of cataract surgery. Possible complications, how to provide information to patients, and treatments for complications will be discussed.

11:35 a.m.-12:25 p.m. LUNCH

12:25-1:15 p.m. REFRACTIVE SURGERY IN CHILDREN: THE TIME HAS COME!William Astle, MD, FRCSC, Dipl. ABO The first research papers discussing success with laser refractive surgery in children surfaced in the early 1990’s, and there is now a plethora of similar studies, all demonstrating excellent surgical results. Refractive surgery in children has evolved into a portfolio of new treatments that can be employed, and are especially successful in children who have been previously declared to be functionally blind, and in children where traditional treatments have not been successful.

1:15-2:05 p.m. WHEN A TIMELY DIAGNOSIS IS CRITICAL: A RARE LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCY Paul Huang, BHSc, MDThis course will discuss an acute onset infectious process that can affect the periorbita and adnexal structures, and if left untreated result in infectious spread through the cavernous sinus and lead to significant morbidity and mortality.

2:20-3:10 p.m. FLUORESCEIN ANGIOGRAPHY Craig Simms, BSc, COMT, ROUB, CDOS This course will discuss the basics of fluorescein angiography starting with luminescence and fluorescence, and how it can be used in the eye. The process of the fluorescein angiogram will be covered including the dosage, injection, and possible adverse reactions from the injection. The fluorescein angiogram sequencing and steps for completing the photography side of the procedure will also be discussed. The course will finish with the phases of the angiogram and descriptive terminology used to describe fluorescein angiography photographs.

3:10-4:00 p.m. THE EYE BANK AND INDICATIONS FOR CORNEAL TRANSPLANTATION Peter Huang, MD, FRCSC This session will outline the fundamental objectives and operations of the Southern Alberta Lions Eyebank, the procedural strategies to harvest, preserve and prepare tissue, and finally, the indications for corneal surgeries and the viable surgical variations used today.

HANDOUTSA link to course handouts will be e-mailed to registrants one week prior to the meeting date, as they are not provided on-site. Handouts are available for two weeks.

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDSAll cancellations and requests for refunds must be received by IJCAHPO in writing. A processing fee of $75 is deducted from each cancelled registration to cover a portion of the costs IJCAHPO incurs. CSOMP memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITSIJCAHPO and CA BRN continuing education credits have been approved for this meeting. Continuing education credits earned will be posted on your account at www.jcahpo.org approximately 4-6 weeks after the program for participants who complete evaluation forms.

NOTE: Attendance is monitored for each hour of instruction. Participants absent for more than 15 minutes of any given hour will not receive credit for that hour.
