Regional BI General Cable / SAP Analytics Challenges

Due to continuous growth and diversified environment General Cable for Europe looked to expand its BI capabilities and fulfill and resolve the increasing reporting needs. The following functional areas were identified as key for BI growth:

Sales & Marketing

Finance

Supply Chain

Product Management

Budget and Forecast Accuracy

On these areas the following challenges were identified:

o Different toolsets on each region

o No single version of the truth

o Highly diversified data environment across regions. No harmonization on hierarchies, customers, products, locations, etc.

o Non-standard definitions for business critical indicators

o Impossible to track down details from corporate reporting to local reporting automatically

o Loss of time with highly manual report-producing tasks relying mainly on Excel processing

Regional BI General Cable / SAP Analytics Solution / Phases

8

The Regional BI project implementation was divided in phases in order to achieve gradual results and obtain the initial benefits as soon as possible.

The different BI functional areas were implemented sequentially so that there will be several go lives that will allow to have early results before the final go live (Agile Methodology). This also facilitates involvement from the end user and IT team .

Multiple go lives to get results earlier

o 3 different projects one after the other to minimize the risk and get results faster

o Not all budget is compromised form the very beginning. o Next phases can be cancelled or postponed, scope can be reviewed at any time during

the project o Focus in a lower number of key users; which is easier to manage. o Key users are more involved as they can see the results earlier.

PHASE 2 PHASE 3 PHASE 1 Kick Off

Regional BI General Cable / SAP Analytics Methodology

o Incremental development.

o The requirements are unclear, they may change or require a lot of flexibility.

o Work done through collaboration of small self-organized and multidisciplinary teams, who must make decisions in the short term.

o Overlapping phases instead of one after another. Each development or sprint includes all phases (planning, analysis, design, construction, go-live, documentation and support).

o Each iteration or sprint ends deliverable or product that works, that is potentially usable.
