CLUB OVERVIEW

SCS United was established in 2016 from the merger of two leading youth soccer clubs - Stars United and PA Crew - in response to a rapidly evolving U.S. soccer landscape. We believed that by consolidating club resources, coaching expertise, and our talented players and teams, the new club would become greater than the sum of its parts. In just three short years SCS United has achieved that and much more. We’ve assembled a coaching staff that includes some of the most experi-enced and accomplished soccer coaches and trainers in the area, we’ve secured some of the finest indoor and outdoor soccer facilities available anywhere in the region, we’ve established valuable partnerships that will benefit our athletes for years to come, and we’ve enjoyed success at the highest levels of youth soccer competition. While proud of this success, we are not content. We continue to find ways to offer more for our athletes, with improved facilities and equipment, better coaching and education, and new and innovative training methods.

OUR FACILITIES

Wildwood Sports and Entertainment ComplexThis brand-new indoor soccer facility in Hampton Town-ship features a full-sized synthetic turf field under dome. This is the primary winter training facility used by all SCS teams.

North Boundary ParkA Cranberry Township park featuring three lighted soccer fields, a one-mile walking trail, and the Cranberry Town-ship Water Park! SCS United conducts training and holds PAWest league matches at North Boundary.

Graham ParkAn expansive public park maintained by Cranberry Town-ship featuring four lighted grass soccer fields and a paved one-mile running trail. SCS United conducts training and holds PAWest league matches at Graham Park in fall and spring competitive seasons.

Seneca Valley HS CampusSeneca Valley High School is located in Harmony, PA. Its sprawling campus includes NexTier Stadium and Myers Field, which are two synthetic turf fields that are suitable for soccer. SCS United uses SV fields for regional league matches (GLC, MDL) and also for limited training activities.

Whether you are operating an English Premier League club or a local youth soccer program, having appropriate facilities for training and match play is a key to success. In western Pennsylvania it is essential for youth soccer programs that aspire to compete at the highest levels to secure appropriate indoor training facilities to maintain on-field training through the long and harsh winters. A club’s training facilities must be also appropriately sized for the number of athletes using them at any given time, and they must feature a training surface that allows athletes to consistently train at their best and not “as condi-tions allow”. Recognizing the critical importance of facilities in developing highly competitive youth soccer teams, SCS United has gone to great lengths to secure some of the best indoor and outdoor soccer facilities available in western Pennsylvania.

LEAGUES AND EVENTSDuring the full season, each SCS United team will play approximately 25 to 30 competitive matches under the auspices of structured leagues, tournaments, friendlies, and also the USYSA National Championship Series for qualifying teams. From the club’s beginning, our emphasis has been on the quality rather than the quantity of matches. We feel strongly that there is little benefit from a develop-ment perspective in placing teams in competitive situations that are above or below the team’s developmental stage. Our hope is that every match is a challenge for all of our teams, but a challenge that can be surmounted when a team is playing at their full competitive potential. This is our definition of competitive success, and it is this principle that motivates our athletes to consistenly play at their best and find within themselves the strength and courage to push beyond their comfort level and elevate their game.

We recognize that the youth soccer landscape is rapidly evolving, and to evolve with it we need to be continually evaluating our perfor-mance as a club and modifying our strategies to realize our goal of competitive success for every one of our teams. It is our desire to develop each of our teams to their maximum competitive potential, whether that be competition at the local, regional, or national level, and we strive to provide them with many opportunities for continuned growth and new challenges. Often, it is necessary for us to look beyond our local clubs and leagues to find these opportunites. These are some of the competitive platforms and tournaments that SCS United teams participated in during the 2018-19 competitive season.

National League: Restructured for the 2018-19 season, the USYSA National Leagues program is a multi-tiered regional competitive platform for boys and girls U13 and older. The National League is divided into 13 confer-ences based on geography. PAWest is a member association of the Great Lakes Conference (GLC) and is the point of entry for PAWest teams seeking to advance to the GLC. For each age and gender, there are three divisions of play with promotion and relegation between divisions. This league involves travel several times per year to play match sets within New York West, Pennsylvania West, West Virginia, Ohio North, Ohio South, Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky. The top teams in Premier I division earn berths in the USYSA National League, which is the top USYSA-sanctioned league in the US and includes teams from each of the conferences.

Midwest Development League (MDL): The MDL is a National Premier League (NPL), which is a nationwide association of about 20 high-level regional leagues governed by USClub Soccer (a second national youth soccer association). The MDL is divided into Eastern and Western divisions, and is populated by U13 and older boys teams from 15-20 highly competitive clubs located throughout the midwest. Whenever possible, teams travel in pairs to play back-to-back reverse fixtures over a weekend. Some match sets are locally hosted, others require travel to locations within Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky.

SCS Teams Participating in 2018/19 MDL: ‘06B White, ‘05B White, ‘04B White, ‘03B Black, ‘02B Black, ‘01B White

USYSA National Championship Series / President’s Cup Series: The PAWest State Cup is the entry point for teams aspiring to the USYSA Regional and National championships. Each club in PAWest may enter up to one team per gender age group in the State Cup tournament. Winning the PAWest State Cup qualifies a team for the Eastern Regional Championships. The President’s Cup Championship Series is a parallel track for teams that are not eligible for or do not elect to participate in the State Cup/National Championship Series.
