Reeled Rigid Pipe-in-Pipe Technology

Technip’s market-leading rigid Pipe-in-Pipe solution is ideal for oil & gas fields with flow assurance challenges and in 2014 reaches the significant milestone of the 50th field installation.

Technip is the recognised subsea industry expert in the design, assembly and pipelay of reel-laid pipe-in-pipe (PiP) assemblies for static and dynamic riser applications. Our expertise helps Operators to address flow assurance challenges, especially in fields requiring very high thermal insulation performance. We offer a full pipe-in-pipe service from design through to manufacture and installation by our vessels, using the cost efficient reel-lay method. Over many years we have built up a significant worldwide track record in this specialised rigid pipe technology.

Commercial advantages

Technip’s PiP solution offers various advantages compared to other insulation methods, including:-

Superior thermal insulation performance, enabling fields with flow assurance challenges

Compatible with higher temperature and pressure applications

Good performance under high effective axial force exposure (buckling)

Second barrier protection against strong currents, dropped objects (eg fishing boat trawl beams or vessel anchors), potentially avoiding the need for additional intervention such as trenching

Compatible with high fatigue performance Steel Catenary Risers (SCRs)

The best configuration to integrate highly efficient trace heating or optical fibre technologies for real-time data monitoring

The Pipe-in-Pipe Concept

Technip’s Pipe-in-Pipe solution is ideal for subsea developments with flow assurance challenges, for example in long tie-back applications where the pipeline must maintain a minimum temperature to prevent wax or hydrate formation.

Highly insulated pipelines for the development of challenging fields
