Family Update

● COVID Procedures (excerpt from Mr. Seder’s Update)○ In an effort to keep our students in school and

reduce the spread of COVID, Mount Vernon CitySchools will temporarily require all students andstaff members to wear a mask while at schoolduring regular school hours even if a student orstaff member is vaccinated. Parents areencouraged to send an additional mask for youngerstudents should a replacement be necessary.

■ This temporary mask requirement willbegin on Thursday, September 2, 2021

■ We will closely monitor the COVID-19situation during the month of Septemberand adjust accordingly based on theprevalence of COVID within our studentbody and local community.

■ We will encourage frequent mask breaksand use of outdoor learning spaces in a safeand controlled environment.

■ This temporary mask requirement willapply to all indoor school day settings.Outdoor venues and extra-curricularactivities will not have a maskingrequirement at this time.

● Meningitis Vaccination○ We have several seniors who have not fulfilled

either the meningitis vaccination requirement orturned in an exemption form. Please remind yourstudents of this requirement in the coming week.

● Free Breakfast and Lunch for All Students

○ Mount Vernon High School is able to continue toprovide all students with a free breakfast and lunchduring the school day. If a student chooses topurchase a la carte items, those are not free.

● Updated Website Launch○ MVCSD is proud to announce the redesign of our

district website on Tuesday, September 7. Our oldsite has served us well for the past 5 years but withnumerous changes in technology, we felt it wastime to give our community the best possiblewebsite design.

Our site is dedicated to providing parents, students,and community members the most current schoolupdates, resources, and event schedules. We wantour website to be a useful source of news rangingfrom curriculum updates, event notifications andan improved calendar of events at all schools.

● improved mobile responsive (phoneand tablet) website

● updated navigation with customdrop-down mega menus

● district and building home pagehaving the ability to have their ownvideo or photo gallery

● three tier social media dashboard
