PRAYER CHAIN – Prayer is a powerful gift
that is always available for us to use. If
you have a prayer request, call June
Hovland (288-7579) or Gail Sim (289-
2087) who will activate the chain. Anyone
interested in becoming a part of this
prayer ministry, please contact June or
Gail.
E-MAIL PRAYER CHAIN - To request a
prayer or to join the chain, send an email
to Lori Hameister at [email protected].
PRAYER CARDS - Take a look in your pew
rack and you’ll see our prayer cards!
These cards will be collected by one of the
pastors during the offering time.
NEW MEMBER RECEPTION will be Sunday,
November 7. If you would like information
about joining Redeemer, please speak to one of
the pastors by Sunday, October 24.
Pizza Ranch Night - On Monday, October
18th, the youth are serving at the Stewartville
Pizza ranch. Many of you have come to the
Pizza Ranch when the youth are serving and you
know what a neat and fun night it is! You come,
eat really good food, see many people you know
from church, see the youth working hard and
support youth ministry at Redeemer! (10% of
the profits and all tips go directly to our Youth
ministry.) Bring your friends, or come by
yourself and end up sitting with people
you know from Church! It is a really
enjoyable night and the youth
look forward to serving you
as you enjoy a night out!
See you at the Ranch!
CANNING JARS NEEDED! Do you still have
canning jars? Want to get rid of them? Donate
them to the youth! Do you have an empty jar
from the Youth Salsa sale? Please bring it back!
We are running low on jars and could use more.
Thanks!
CELEBRATING GOD’S GRACE is a 10-
week class which looks at the teachings of
the Lutheran Church. This is for non-
Lutherans thinking about joining or for
Lutherans who would like to review the
basics. The next class will begin on
Wednesday, November 17, at 7:30 pm.
Please speak to one of the pastors or Michael
Harvey for more information.
Pastor Jake and Michelle Gillard will be at
Redeemer for a special presentation on
Wednesday, October 27, at 6:10 pm. Plan
to attend and get an update on their work in
Uganda.
2 Week of 10-17-2010
ADULT BIBLE CLASSES - Sundays at 9:20 am! Bible Lands and People -Then and Now - Pastor Heining leads this class in the North
Fellowship Hall. This week - Bethlehem. The Challenge of Islam – This study is led by Pastor Settle in the South Fellowship Hall.
Creation Bible Study - (October 10-31)
This is be a 4-week class that will lead up to the creation conference on October 30 and 31.
We will cover many topics related to creation in the first 3 weeks and the last week we will
see how to defend the biblical creation worldview and see how those who defend the
evolutionary world view are really borrowing from the biblical creation worldview and don't
recognize it. Join us in the Choir Room.
STARS – This year the stars above will remember the beloved
saints in heaven and stars on the walls will recognize the saints, our
neighbors, here on earth. Please fill out the stars in the narthex for the
saints in heaven.
FINANCIAL UPDATE: “Down, Yet Up”
September Income: $59,923
September Expenses: $72,570
YTD Income: $639,521
YTD Expenses: $631,058 While we took a significant downturn for
September, we still have a modest positive
balance for the year. It is our hope that if we end
the year with a positive balance, we will be able to
put new carpet in the two large Sunday School
rooms downstairs. This is a significant need (take
a look) but we did not set aside money for capital
improvements in our 2010 “bare-bones” budget.
“BAKELESS BAKE SALE” will continue
through the month of October. Envelopes can be
put in the offering plate or brought to the office. If
you did not receive an envelope, they are available
in the narthex. Questions, contact Sandy Weiden
at 287-6885.
FALL CLEAN-UP DAY Saturday., October 23 8 am to Noon
We will once again needs lots of willing and helping hands. All ages are welcome! Plan to rake leaves, clean gutters, wash windows as well as many other tasks. In case of inclement weather, we will focus on inside projects.
3 Week of 10-17-2010
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR
Jesus affirmed the Old Testament teaching to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18). There are many ways to do this: give someone a ride to church, teach a Sunday school class, invite someone to a Bible study, mow someone’s lawn, etc. etc. etc. Stephen Ministry is one important, tangible way to show God’s love to others. To find out more about this distinctive way to be a caring Christian, contact Pastor Rance Settle, Bill Cochran, Dave Wood or Gail Wood. There is a new training class beginning in January. Sign up now and become part of this valuable and exciting ministry to God’s people.
Did you know… The VBS kids this summer raised $75 and
several boxes filled with supplies for
orphanages in the Dominican Republic!
The Shout! youth raked the yards of 7
neighborhood houses and took away over 50
bags of leaves!
A group of men made a bunch of yard
crosses that the people of the neighborhood
could take home for their yards!
How can you show love for your neighbors?
We need YOUR help! Redeemer has a few “long standing”
members that no longer drive. They would
like a willing someone to pick them up and
bring them to church and then take them
home again. Do you go to the Bible class
hour? Do you attend the 10:40 am service?
Do you have a car? Do you have an urge to
help one of your fellow members? If so,
your help would be greatly appreciate.
Please contact Chris in the church office
(289-5147) if you would be willing to help
out occasionally. Thank you!

MYTH #5: Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) happens only after you fight in a war. FACT: PTSD can occur after any traumatic event such as rape or other violent attack, natural
disaster or learning of an unexpected death of a loved one. To become more informed about
PTSD go to: http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/index.shtml

true – bringing up the subject of suicide and discussing it openly is one of the most helpful
things you can do. To learn more about suicide and what you can do to prevent it go to: http://
www.save.org.
MYTH #7: Only celebrities and models have eating disorders.
FACT: According to the National Institute of Mental Health, eating disorders and binge eating

The cookbook is filled with recipes submitted by friends and family of ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) patients as well as some local “celebrities” like Mayor Ardell Brede and Tom Overlie. These are “tried and true” recipes and make great gifts for graduations, first apartments, hostesses, etc. The price is $18 and checks can be made to ALSA of MN. There is a copy of the cookbook in the Narthex for your review. The ALSA provides information, equipment, and many other resources and support for those living with ALS as well as research for a cure for this devastating disease. UPDATE ON DISTRICT FLOOD RELIEF
After assessment of flood damage throughout the Minnesota South District we are focusing flood recovery efforts on the little town of Hammond where we have a very small congregation. Due to the size of the town it is important that we "parse in" crews and assistance in coordination with the Case Manager, United Way of Olmsted County, and the village of Hammond. Case management, volunteer coordination may be changing this week. The Red Cross has presented their last meal in Hammond. Much work remains to be done throughout the community. Bottled water and wrapped snacks are needed. Because of assistance we have been able to provide, our Church in Hammond has been able to set up rather quickly, and allow their church to be set up as the flood recovery center in Hammond, with washers, dryers, equipment/supply staging area, kitchen, gathering point and an overall comfort spot for people and work crews to gather. Additional needed equipment will be on the ground tomorrow. The churches of the Minnesota South District have responded and more crews are being cued and are ready to go. It's a great thing when a good plan comes together and the people of God shine! Our churches in Hammond/Potsdam will be holding their Octoberfest Dinner October 24, at our Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview. Because they were able to get up and running and have been resourced through the generosity of the churches of the Minnesota South District, all of the profits from the Octoberfest Dinner will go to an account set up by the church for Hammond Community Flood Recovery efforts. Interested in Volunteering for flood relief? Help is needed in Hammond, Millville, Zumbro Falls, Faribault. Register online at: http://www.uwolmsted.org/index.cfm? . This information may change quickly. Donations may be made to the Minnesota South District Flood Relief through Redeemer.

MERCY KITS
FOR ORPHAN GRAIN TRAIN
Rochester Zone and Redeemer Lutheran RLCW are calling on all members to
contribute items for the Orphan Grain Train Mercy Kits which are the designated
‘Gifts from the Heart’ for Orphan Grain Train and will be dedicated at the
Whitewater Conference Fall Rally October 30 at St. John’s, Stewartville.
The Mercy Kits contain:
one bath towel, dark color recommended;
one washcloth, dark color recommended;
one bath-size bar (4 to 5 oz) of soap, any brand in its original wrapping;
one adult-size toothbrush in original packaging;
one tube of toothpaste;
one sturdy comb, remove packaging;
6 Band-Aids preferable ½” to ¾” secured together.
Donations of items should be placed in the basket by the LWML display by
October 27. Volunteers are needed to organize and wrap the kits on Friday,
October 29 at 10 a.m.
(To wrap the items yourself, place the smaller items in the washcloth, wrap the
washcloth and remaining items in the larger towel: spread the towel out flat. On
the two long sides of the towel fold them in about 5 inches on both sides. Place
everything in the center, between these folds and then roll the towel up. Secure
the rolled towel with strong cord or a strong ribbon securely tied at both ends.)
12 Week of 10-17-2010
Redeemer Lutheran Church
Parking Lot Sunday, October 31 -- 4:00 to 6:30 pm
Come and be a part of this EXCITING activity!
Here is what you need to do: We are looking for people/groups/families to decorate their
trunks in a style that matches the VBS theme from this summer, “Planet Zoom.” (For those who were not a part of that, the theme was about bees and their activity in a beehive.)
People are asked to bring canned goods with them to the Trunk-n-Treat and “vote” for the most creatively decorated trunk by placing their canned goods in that trunk.
All canned goods will be donated to Channel One.
We are planning to be handing out candy as well as having a fire pit and S’mores.
The event will end early enough so children will be able to trick or treat afterwards.
If you are interested in entering your vehicle in the trunk-n-treat contest, please email [email protected] or contact the church office at 289-5147.
Hope to see you there!
