PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Greetings,
Facility Advisory Community Team (or F.A.C.T.)
As you may have followed in the news, the School District of Milton School Board is in the
process of commissioning a community advisory team to help with the process of
addressing the facility needs within the district. The charge of this team will be to carry
forward the work that has been done to evaluate the current facility needs and to bring
forward options. While the charge is to look at the full K-12 solutions, the High School
certainly is part of the equation. The team will be made up of community members who
self nominate themselves for the process. The timeline for any recommendations will be
set by the team once they form, but they could come as early as the end of June.
For those who are interested in reviewing any of the documents on the facility
assessments or information from the meetings, the district has posted all the materials on
the District Webpage: www.milton.k12.wi.us Please look for the "Instructional and
Facility Needs" link. While there is a lot of information on the web page, please do not
hesitate to contact me with questions. Likewise, the official tours of the high school will
resume in the near future - but if you would like to see the building prior to the posted
tours, please do call the high school and arrangements can be made.
Changes at Semester
At the start of every second semester, I receive calls from parents of students who have
had a schedule change and a "teacher switch" at semester. I realize that it can be hard to
change teachers at semester, having gotten used to the expectations and style of a
particular person. However, due to the complexity of the high school schedule and the
increasing variety and scope of courses that we offer, I am forced to "semesterize" the
schedule. This means that I need to allow the program that schedules students to change
teachers at semester. If we did not do this and "locked" students schedules to a specific
teacher for the year, there would literally be hundreds of more schedule
conflicts. Students would not get the classes they wanted.
Changing teachers is not always negative. It allows for students to experience different
styles and puts them in the position of learning to adapt to something new - which is also
a skill that our kids need.
If you have questions or concerns, please do feel free to contact me
at the high school.
Have a wonderful March everyone and Go Red Hawks!

Students enrolled in Advanced Placement classes are given the opportunity to take AP exams
in May. While the main advantage of taking an AP course is better preparation for college,
students who take and perform well on the AP exam may receive college credit while in high
school which can save both time and money.
Scores are reported to the colleges designated by the student and range from 1 (no
recommendation) to 5 (extremely qualified). Each college determines the scores to be
accepted for credit, but all UW System institutions are required to grant credit for scores of 3
and above. Find each Wisconsin University’s credit acceptance at:
www.uwhelp.wisconsin.edu.
Students who would like to take an AP exam must sign up in the Counseling Office during the
week of February 29 - March 4. Each exam costs $93, and students must submit a $25 non-
refundable deposit when they sign up. Any student receiving Free and Reduced lunch is
encouraged to speak with Ms. Wineke in the Counseling Office about a fee reduction.

FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA
FBLA Students Advance to State
On February 6th, 20 students competed in the FBLA Regional Leadership Conference alongside twenty
four other schools in our Region. Students participated in a wide range of events such as: Agribusiness,
to Business Calculations, to and Hospitality Management. The chapter increased participation from last
year, where only 13 members competed at Regionals. Students took exams, gave speeches, or
attended workshops in the morning with live entertainment from UW-Madison’s a capella groups in the
afternoon. The awards ceremony kicked off shortly after with a total of fourteen top 8 placings for
Milton students. In order to advance to state, students must place in the top three of their event;
Possibly beating out up to twenty or more other students in each event. Nine Milton students will be
moving on in the following events to compete at the State Level, potentially competing against up to
twenty one other students from across Wisconsin:
Tressa Rasmussen (3rd Place) - Economics

students participate in a preliminary round on Monday and if placed in the top eight, will compete in a
final round Tuesday. Workshops, tours, and general sessions for voting and chapter recognitions will
keep the students busy. Depending on the event, students who place in the top three or four of their
event will advance to the National Leadership Conference held in Atlanta, GA this year on June 28th -

REALITY CHECK On Tuesday, March 8th all Milton High School seniors and students in the Accounting classes will be participating
in the Reality Check event being held in Gym 2 at Milton High School. Over 80 community members will be volun-
teering their time for the event. Approximately 400 students from MHS and Edgerton High School will take part in
the financial simulation.
If you are not familiar with what the Reality Check event is, here is a description:
An Interactive, Hands-On Financial Literacy Event·
An interactive program for students designed to demonstrate the importance of sound money management skills.
A partnership between Edgerton High School, Milton High School, and the business communities in that it pro-vides an opportunity for over 350 high school seniors to connect with community business representatives in
an authentic situation.
An event that gives students a chance to test their budgeting skills using actual prices for products and ser-vices in a safe environment.
An event that provides insight into career selection and how that career selection will play a part in a student’s financial future.
A “cool project” that makes classroom learning relevant to students!
