    Barangay is the smallest local government unit in thePhilippines and is the native Filipino term for a village,district or ward. Cities are composed of barangays(Wikipedia).

    It is the policy of the State to hasten economicdevelopment by encouraging the formation andgrowth ofBarangay Micro Business Enterprises(BMBE) and integrating those in the informalsector with the mainstream economy. (R.A. 9178sec. 2)

    generate jobs and incomeopportunities in the barangay levelby providing support such as

    training on entrepreneurship,business planning, counseling,organizing, etc.

    To integrate informal enterprises

    conducted Business Planning to 294 micro-businessentrepreneurs and packaged business plans for funding.

    222 hereof have received financial assistance in the totalamount of P 1,200,500 or $ 24,010 from the Departmentof Labor and Employment last December 23, 2008.

    V. Accomplishments (as of April 30,2009)

    Packaged 9 project proposals to access the P 4 Million or $80,000 from the Department of Labor and

    Employment (DOLE) under the Integrated Services for Livelihood Advancement (ISLA) of fishermen.

    The money is already in the hands of the City Government and is on schedule for release to the beneficiariessoon, may be in next two weeks.
