Horse Nation Prayer Cere- mony,” Thomas said. “The horse will be in full regalia, honoring our loved ones on the other side.” The riders will proceed south to Highway 12 and then travel east to Ohiya Casino. “We may need a law en- forcement escort,” Thomas said, referring to Highway 12 as a major travel artery in northeast Nebraska. The upcoming ride has drawn great anticipation, said Thomas, who also manages Ohiya Casino. Pre-registration is re- quested, and a number of per- sons have already indicating they will ride or bring horses, she said. Following the ride, a noon meal and program will be held at the Ohiya Casino event cen- ter on Highway 12. The pro- gram will feature prayer, songs, speakers and special acknowledgments. In addition, commemora- tive sculptures of the “38 Plus 2” warriors will be ceremoni- ally unveiled by the Santee Sioux Nation, Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe and Crow Creek Sioux Tribe, Thomas said. “The (Santee Sioux) tribe paid for these sculptures, which are life-sized busts of each of the 38,” she said. “We had the sculptures made by an artist at the University of Wis- consin-Platteville.” The Dec. 26 commemora- tion carries a number of emo- tions for the Dakota people, said Santee Sioux tribal chair- man Roger Trudell. The day brings sadness but also heal- ing, he said. “We remain a strong peo- ple,” Trudell said. ——— For more information on the Dec. 26 event or to RSVP on the horse ride, contact: Misty Thomas at (402) 358- 0359 or (402) 857-2342; Rick Thomas at (402) 640-9561; Roger Trudell at (402) 857- 2772; or Thelma Thomas at (402) 857-3860 or (402) 360- 2782. The stream has risen steadily during the past week and this morning stood at 6.4 feet, an exceptional stage for this time of year. • Arrangements for better light- ing effects on the stage of Forbes auditorium were perfected this week.
