Teach children from prep - grade 2 about the basics of recycling and how we can help the earth everyday!TRANSCRIPT
We are making less waste. We will show
you how you can too!
Waste is something you throw out and can’t use again.
Waste can be anything from food and containers to
computers and computer games.
One person can throw away over
450 kilograms of rubbish a year.

Together, we make tones of waste
More than half of our trash ends up in our landfills, where rubbish is
buried, taking up lots of good land.
Some waste is biodegradable, which means it breaks down in our
environment without any help. But a lot of waste is not biodegradable.
It can cause a lot of problems, and can harm the soil, water and air.
But there’s a lot we can do to help our earth!
One way we can help is by RECYCLING.
But how
do we
recycle?
When you recycle, you use materials
from old items to make new items.
You can recycle things like plastic bottles, cans,
glass, paper and even batteries.
In Warrnambool, each house is allowed a bin to put these
things in to be recycled. A recycle truck comes to empty
your bin once every two weeks.
Our recycle bins at home
look like this:
With a green body and a yellow lid.
You can also use recycle bins at school and sometimes down the
street or in the park.
When we put things in the recycle bin, they soon will
be able to be made into brand new things!
Soft drink cans and bottles can be used to make
new soft drink cans and bottles.
Steel can be recycled and used to make
steel for buildings.
The plastic from plastic bottles can be used to
make rugs, shoes, clothing and even playground
equipment.
It is important to care for our earth. We
only have one!
…and it’s up to all of use to take care of it!
