ST. PETER PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
We, the believers of St. Peter Parish, having our beginnings as the earliest Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans on the Northshore, in response to God's call, come together:
to love God and one another to worship as a faith community to be God's hands, heart and mind and to provide for our community's spiritual and
physical needs
In doing this, we glorify God and help realize His reign on earth. While rejoicing in the experience of our pilgrimage, we must ever keep in mind our ultimate destination through our faithful stewardship of time, talent and treasure. Called to be a prayerful and hospitable Catholic family of living faith, we welcome and invite all people to share in our unique gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Fasting and Abstinence Regulations
Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age, but not yet 59. Those who are bound to fast may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are per-mitted if necessary to maintain strength according to each one’s needs, but eating solid foods be-tween meals is not permitted.
Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years or older on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays of Lent. The determination of certain days as obligatory days of penance should not be understood as limiting the occasions for Christian penance. The spirit of the season of Lent should be maintained throughout the weeks of Lent. The obligation to observe penitential days of the Church is serious. Failure to observe individual days of penance is not necessarily con-sidered serious. No one should be scrupulous in this regard. People should seek to do more rather than less, since fast and abstinence on the days prescribed should be considered a minimal re-sponse to the Lord’s call to penance and conver-sion of life.
All Catholics of the appropriate age are to fast and abstain on Good Friday. The Second Vatican Council observed: “Let the paschal fast be kept sacred. Let it be celebrated everywhere on Good Friday and, where possible, prolonged throughout Holy Saturday, so that the joys of the Sunday of the Resurrection may be attended with uplifted and clear mind.”

6th Sunday in Ordinary Time—February 11, 2018 Have you ever had a moment of silence where you realized that the mundane tasks of life were preventing you from living to the fullest? While we do need to take care of the daily necessities, sometimes we live a half-hearted life of "just getting by." But Jesus wants to give us life to the full. He wants to remove the things in our life that prevent us from appreciating the beauty around us, the gifts in our life, and truly experiencing the plans he has in store for us.

From the St. Peter Catholic School, Principal’s weekly newsletter: January 31, 2018
Dear St. Peter Families,
During this Catholic Schools Week, we give thanks to God for our families, teachers, staff, priests and students. May the Lord continue to bless our school that we may form our students to be academically and spiritually strong disciples…
.... We want to thank our parents for working with us during this strong flu season. Please continue to help
us by keeping children home until they are symptom-free for at least 48 hours. At school, housekeeping and teachers are cleaning all areas of the school very thoroughly, including desks, handles and water fountains. Students will also be reviewing proper hand washing techniques through our PE classes this week. We are continuing to pray for good health for our St. Peter families. Thank you for entrusting your children to us.
God alone,
Michael Kraus
Eucharistic Adoration for Vocations
The Vocations Committee of St. Peter Parish invites you to offer your Adoration Hour in the Chapel to pray for an in-crease in vocations to the priest-hood, religious, and consecrated life as well as to provide spiritual support for ex-isting vocations. A binder has been placed in the Chapel with prayer suggestions. The gift of your prayer and time with Christ would be a beautiful sacrificial practice during this Lenten season.

In the Archdiocese- Safe Haven Sunday: Equipping the Family, Safeguarding Children
The family home is to be a safe haven. But, the inappropriate use of technology in the home deprives it of this role and is the greatest threat to the sanctity of marriages and families. Today. Pornography and other online threats are often one click away, and parents can feel overwhelmed with not knowing how to bet protect their children in our fast-paced digital world.
Next weekend, February 17-18, the First Sunday of Lent, the Archdiocese of New Orleans is taking a bold step to help families by celebrating “Safe Haven Sunday.” This awareness day will provide access to practical resources that any caring adult can use to protect themselves and our precious young people from online risks.
Please join us with your prayers and presence as we prepare for this unique event. To learn more, please contact the Archdiocese of New Orleans Office of Marriage and Family Life at [email protected] or visit www.nolacatholic.com.
