OUTREACH MINISTRY
For several years we have had many parishioners who
bring Communion on the weekend to our
homebound or hospitalized parishioners. By bringing
Communion to our homebound you show how valued
they are as members of the parish and meet Jesus in
the lives of these people. Please contact the rectory at
508-755-0408 to let us know if there is someone who
would like to receive a visit and Communion or if you
would like to join this ministry. Training is provided.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU
FROM OUR PASTOR
Many thanks to everyone who contributed in
making our Christmas liturgies so meaningful to all of
us. A special thanks to our musicians, singers, cantors
and also our altar servers, lectors, ushers and to our
Eucharistic Ministers who visited the homebound
during this season. I am very grateful to all who
helped clean and decorate the church that always
looks so tasteful. To those who participated in our
Christmas Pageant and those who helped prepare and
make it work-as usual it was one of the highlights of
our celebrations. The weather was certainly on our
side making it easy for many to attend these liturgies.
And, finally, many thanks for your generous
contributions to St. Columba during these holidays.
A special thanks for all the gifts and cards, cookies,
fruit and flowers that I received from so many.
May the Christ Child keep us all in his love and his
mother keep us all in her care throughout the
New Year.
Father David

SOLEMNITY OF THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
We bow to a higher authority
From the first moment of his papacy, Pope Francis
impressed the world with his humility. The newly
minted pope bowed his head and invited us, the
church, to bless him. How rare it is for leaders on the
world stage to approach their role with humility and
reverence! The typical response to the bestowal of
power is a rising spirit of arrogance and aggression.
We observe the contrast between the Magi who
prostrate themselves before an infant, while
King Herod snarls and plots violence with his yes-
men. How do we wield the authority we hold in our
hands?
TODAY'S READINGS: Isaiah 60:1-6;
Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6; Matthew 2:1-12 (20).
“They prostrated themselves and did him
homage.”
