afewyearsagoagroupofscientistswereonamissiontostudyaparticularspeciesofmonkeyinthejunglesofafrica.

itwasimportanttothemthatthemonkeyswerenotharmedinthecaptureprocess.sothescientistsdevisedatrapconsistingofasmalljarwithalong,narrowneck.intothejarwasplacedahandfulofnuts.severalofthesejarsweresetoutatcertainlocations,andthescientistsreturnedtotheircamp.

seeingthenutsinthebottle,amonkeywouldthrusthispawintothelongneckandgrabafistfulofnuts.whenhetriedtopullhishandout,graspingontothenuts,hediscoveredthathisclenchedfistwouldnotpassthroughthenarrowneckofthebottle.sohewastrappedintheanchoredbottle,unabletoescapewithhisprize,andyetunwillingtoletgoofit.

whenwetakeanhonestlookatourlifewemayfindthatwe,tooareholdingontothingsthatsymbolicallyrepresentthenutsthemonkeysclungonto,andthatthesethingsarekeepingustrapped.itmaybeextraweight,negativejudgmentofothers,negativejudgmentofourselves,anger,fear,atoxicrelationship,orperhapsajobthatisnot

The mOnkeys were very easy TO capTurebecauseoftheirunwillingnesstoletgoofthenuts,andthereforenotbeingabletogetaway.Mostofuscarrythingsthatarenotservingourhighergood.Foryouitmaybefear,perhapsofotherpeople’sjudgment—orsomeotherfear;itmaybeatoxicrelationship;ajobthatisnotworkingout;abadhabit;maybevictimenergyormartyrenergy;oritcouldbesomethingentirelydifferent.
