Carol J. CarterFounder, LifeBound; CEO and Founder, GlobalMindED
Carol J. Carter is the founder of LifeBound and the CEO and founder of GlobalMindED. She is a national and international student success author, speaker, seventeen-year corporate veteran and entrepreneur who has traveled for work (or pleasure) to almost 60 countries.
Carol began her career at Prentice-Hall at age 26, where she was the first female assistant vice president; at age 30, she became the first female vice president at the company.
She is the lead author of the Keys to Success Series for college freshmen, which helps students connect their academic learning to their professional future. The series is multidisciplinary and is read by students in majors from business to science to engineering. The series has been published in Canadian, Chinese, Spanish, Swedish and Arabic and has been read by 3 million college freshmen, earning $65 million for Pearson.
She self-funded LifeBound, a content and coaching company teaching faculty to facilitate and champion students’ professional abilities to prepare them to excel as contributors outside of college.
After surviving cancer in 2014, Carol started and funded GlobalMindED to help first generation college students and low-income teenagers get the “hidden curriculum,” role models, mentors, internships and jobs to ensure that they graduate college, secure high earning employment and have access to promotions and leadership opportunities. To date, GlobalMindED has placed more than 350 low income and first generation college students into high earning jobs.

chapter best practices
University of Dubai We had a lot of fun in our Quiz Bee competition, an event organized by our Beta Gamma Sigma members. Over 200 students attended the event. Topics covered Mathematics, Accounting, Science, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Arts and Humanities, Engineering and IT.
University of Massachusetts - Lowell We invite the top 5% of Sophomores to membership so we can have a pipeline of Student Officers who will increase participation of BGS in university and business school events.
Roger William University Sending our student officers to the GLS has been very attractive to other students who we want to recruit. These students bring back practices from other schools and generates great enthusiasm among them for BGS.
University of Nebraska at Omaha The week prior to tapping, we put out a teaser slide on all electronic message boards in the building letting students know tapping is on the way. During the week of tapping and the week following, we post pictures of students being tapped in classes throughout the week. We then show these photos during our induction ceremony. Family and friends really enjoy seeing these photos and many students contact us to receive copies as well!
Abu Dhabi University To aid in career development of BGS inductees, we initiated a two-tier mentoring program. In the first tier, BGS faculty inductees will serve as the mentor to BGS postgraduate inductees and in the second tier, BGS postgraduate inductees will mentor the BGS undergraduate inductees.
University of South Dakota Our School of Business funds the national dues for each undergraduate student and partially funds the graduate students’ dues which reduces the cost to students and encourages participation.
James Madison University We have been very successful with our in-class tapping, which goes on for four days each semester. A faculty member and two student members carry the BGS banner into the classroom and present each prospective member with their invitation letter. We follow that up with personal contacts from current members, and a letter from the Dean's office to the parents of each inductee.
University of Massachusetts Boston During the spring semester our Dean invites students to meet him and he hand delivers the new member invitations to students during the special event. This allowed us to distribute invitations in person with more intrigue and curiosity as students weren't sure why they were invited to speak to the Dean about their academic success until they arrived.
University of Hartford Each semester we have a special dinner event called the Ellsworth Leadership Dinner Event. We usually invite alumni to be our guest speaker who share their personal career paths and what were the most influential parts of their journey. They also share several pointers and allow us a question and answer segment.
Robert Morris University Our BGS members participated in a business summit at the university. As part of the event, BGS members from all business disciplines planned a business networking event. During this event, potential employers who are also BGS alumni members spoke about their company and opportunities within their organizations. The event was structured like a business speed dating event where each student visited a table for 10 minutes and then moved on to another table for 10 minutes learning valuable information and networking with many industry professionals. "On our campus, we are making sure that students are aware of Beta Gamma Sigma by making it a critical part of our School of Business." - Dr. Gregory Krivacek, Associate Professor of Accounting and Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Advisor.

University of Ljubljana School of Economics and Business We are very proud to announce that we have created a dedicated BGS corner/spot on the school premises, where students can network and sit between the classes. We display photos from the BGS events on the wall.
Illinois Institute of Technology We awarded one of our BGS faculty members with the Professor of the Year Award. Instead of just providing our faculty member with the medallion, we had it framed in a shadow box so the medallion would be able to be displayed proudly in the professor's office or home.
SolBridge International School of Business We created a Business Leadership Competition for all students and used this competition to select students to attend the Global Leadership Summit. We set aside school funds to provide airfare and associated expenses for three students to attend. While the competition was open to all students, it was stipulated that any student selected must be inducted into BGS. This helped with the advertising of BGS to all students.
SUNY Oneonta Having Student Officers provides an excellent opportunity for them to continue the development of skills that are critical in the workplace (communication-written and oral, leadership, time management, etc). Our Co-Vice President of Alumni Relations develops an annual Student Newsletter which is distributed to members on campus and alumni. It includes a summary of activities and is an excellent tool for reaching out to those that share in the values of BGS and have a strong connection to the institution.
The University of Texas of the Permian Basin We started doing SKYPE ceremonies for the online students who were geographically far away from campus and could not attend in person.
Baylor University We asked each of our BGS inductees to give us the name of their favorite Hankamer School of Business professor. We then sent an email and a letter to each professor, inviting them to attend the BGS ceremony with the student. This brought our attendance up to over 70-75 people and increased the prestige of the event.
Boise State University We distributed a monthly newsletter to members via email and highlighted BGS related information, events that had been held, upcoming events, etc.
University of Arkansas at Little Rock Our Chapter sponsors First Friday volunteer/service days three times in each semester. This has led to increased volunteer activity as well as awareness of Beta Gamma Sigma among the student body and opportunities for leadership in the terms prior to graduation.
University of Rhode Island We have found that reaching out early to both freshmen and their parents helps to create awareness and a tangible goal for the students to pursue. Also, utilizing current members as a great way to reach their peers.
University of Scranton We include accomplished community and business leaders from Northeastern Pennsylvania in our annual induction ceremony. We present them with a Chapter Honoree award and have them give an address at the ceremony.
Black Hills State University Our Chapter partners with other student organizations for our community service activities. We partnered with the Honors students to staff a food drive at the local Walmart. We also worked with our marketing club "Buzz Marketing" to develop posters for another event called Bingo with Seniors. These partnerships help increase the visibility of BGS and makes use of the talents of other students as well.

The Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Honor Roll is an annual collegiate chapter recognition program, based on engagement points earned throughout the academic year. An annual chapter survey must be completed for chapters to be eligible for recognition. Chapters and deans from these schools are recognized in a variety of publications and at a variety of events throughout the year.
