What Phase Am I In?

LISTED BELOW ARE A SERIES OF STATEMENTS THAT CHARACTERIZE THE EXPERIENCE OF BEING IN EACH OF THE SIX PHASES OF LEADER DEVELOPMENT. REVIEW THE LIST AND PLACE A CHECK NEXT TO STATEMENTS THAT BEST DESCRIBE YOU.

EXCITEMENT PHASE q I feel alive in joyful anticipation for the future. q I am excited to have an opportunity to work on this team. q I may not have a lot of experience, but I am full of energy to begin new ventures. q I want to make an impact. q I am still clarifying my calling and passion.

FUNDAMENTALS PHASE q I am very aware that I do not know everything and that I need to grow. q I am busy learning the basic principles that make me successful in my job. q I am beginning to recognize that I do some things better than others. q I am energized by skill development training and becoming better at my job. q I love ministry-building ideas and issues.

RESPONSIBILITY PHASE q I am comfortable and competent doing my job. q I am making a noticeable contribution. q I am well into the routines and rhythms of my role. q I am experienced at what I do. q I am starting to invest in others to help them grow.

BORED-TIRED-DISILLUSIONED PHASE q My energy for people and life has faded. q My life is characterized by have-to’s not want-to’s. q I lack passion for what I do. q Things have happened to me that are confusing and hurtful. q I never imagined serving God would get me to a place like this.

INTROSPECTION PHASE q I am more interested in figuring out my life than I am in making a difference. q I am pursuing the healing of past wounds. q I am thinking more seriously about life and what it is really about. q I am processing how my family of origin influenced who I am. q I am letting go of childish and naïve assumptions about how life should be.

RENEWAL PHASE q I have come through a tunnel and can see light on the other side. q I have a deeper sense of who I am and what I do best. q I am reaching a place of deep gratitude and acceptance for my life and gifts. q I see how all my life experiences make me who I am and have prepared me for my best future contribution. q sense God’s presence with me again.
