additional book to support your child talking about their feelings.

Link to story Discussion Activity

Monday Listen to Ruby’s Worry again from last week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f SGtP1CQYk&feature=youtu.be

Choose a page from the story and look at Ruby in this picture. How is she feeling? How do you know? What do you notice about her face/body when she is feeling this way? What do you notice about the colours the illustrator has used on this page?

Choose a page from the story and look at Ruby in this picture. Can you write a sentence about how Ruby is feeling and how you know? e.g. Ruby is feeling happy. I know Ruby is happy because she is smiling and waving.

Tuesday Can you use your story map from yesterday to retell the story? If you have forgotten anything, listen to the story again to remind you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f SGtP1CQYk&feature=youtu.be

What did Ruby do to make her feel better? Have you had a worry before? What did you do to make you feel better?

Discuss different ways of dealing with a worry: talking to an adult, doing something to make you happy, thinking about something positive etc.

Page 11: Reception - Maths - 25 minutes · 2020-07-03 · Reception Home Learning Suggested timetable - 06.07.20 Below is a suggested timetable to help you structure your child’s day, this

Do you have something that helps you when you are worried e.g. a teddy? What made Ruby’s worry shrink? Worrying makes you feel like you have butterflies in your tummy, what happens when you feel happy? What activities make you feel happy?

Can you make your own worry strip like in the picture below. On it write two or three different ways of dealing with a worry.

Wednesday Listen to the story again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f SGtP1CQYk&feature=youtu.be

What do you worry about? What can you do if you feel worried? What can I do to help you with your worry? Why is it important to tell people about your worries? Have you ever had a worry that once you told somebody it went away?

Create your own worry box. Write two of your worries to put in your box and your adult can read them and help you with them.

Remember to use a capital letter and full stop. E.g. I am worried about…

Page 12: Reception - Maths - 25 minutes · 2020-07-03 · Reception Home Learning Suggested timetable - 06.07.20 Below is a suggested timetable to help you structure your child’s day, this

Thursday Revisit the story again. Making links to your worries and how you shared them with your adult yesterday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f SGtP1CQYk&feature=youtu.be

What are you worrying about? Soon you will be too big for Reception and will be going to a new class in year 1! How do you feel about moving up to year 1? Is there anything that worries you? Do you have any questions?

Write down any questions you may have and remember to use a question mark at the end. Your grown up may be able to answer some of your questions - if not the teachers will try and answer some too. e.g. Will I still be with my friends? Yes - you will all go to year 1 together!

Friday Listen to: In My Heart: A Book of Feelings discussing the feelings as you go along and how they make you feel inside e.g. butterflies in your tummy when you are excited! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIf LgHBwYx4

Although you might be worried about moving to year 1, there are lots of things to be excited about. Talking about these exciting things will help your worries disappear. You have a new playground, what can you do here? You will be able to do Run to Tokyo (run around the field),

At the beginning of the week we spoke about Ruby’s feelings. You might have lots of different feelings about going into year 1 because it is a big change but a very exciting one! Draw/paint/collage a picture of you in the middle of your page. Around the picture of you, write down all the things you are feeling: worried, scared, excited, happy.

Page 13: Reception - Maths - 25 minutes · 2020-07-03 · Reception Home Learning Suggested timetable - 06.07.20 Below is a suggested timetable to help you structure your child’s day, this

will you do that? What would you like to learn about in year 1? Who will you play with in year 1? Discuss what exciting things the children might be doing: learning science/history, having PE lessons, going to the junior hall for celebration assembly etc.

Whilst you are writing them, talk about why you are feeling that way and ways others can help with this. E.g. I am happy because I will be with my friends.

Reception - Reading:

Please read a story to your child everyday and talk to them about the characters, ask them to make predictions about what they think will happen and talk about what they like and dislike about the story. If you have run out of stories to read to your child then please watch the stories below. Please also ask your child to read to you every day. There are some links to free online books on the following website that you can download: https://sites.google.com/raglanschools.org/raglanreads
