As small cadet based college specializing in the education and training of Sailors SUNY Mari-time College is ideally located on the northern tip of Throgs Neck Bronx, NY. The Campus is based around the old Fort Schuyler, which served as an outpost to protect the waterways of northern New York City after the war of 1812. Throgs Neck separates the long island sound from the East River.

The building site is directly adjacent to the East River with sweeping views of the Long Island Sound to the north down to the Whitestone Bridge and beyond to the Manhattan skyline in the distance.

The building is a 40,000 sf. multi-purpose aca-demic building which consists of two halves: A three story academic building with classroom and lecture spaces on the north façade and private faculty offices on the South façade; and a double height multi function space that can be separated into multiple configurations based on need. The two halves are connected by a double height prefunction area that has a two-story glass façade that exits out to a south-ern terrace. Two of the three academic floors connect directly to the prefunction space. The third level connects to a roof terrace over the prefunction area for outdoor events.

Located on the 8th floor of the Silver Building on the east side of Washing-ton Square park on the NYU campus the Silver 8 project was a renovation and conversion of an existing academic space to a high tech laboratory. The project’s parti was a “box with a box” concept. The 16,000 sf. Floor plate served to be a good location for a centrally located glass Lab space with more than 2 dozen wet lab benches and fume hoods, and a BSL2 lab space for more hazardous chemistry. A raceway of corridors around the perimeter allows for natural light to penetrate the interior. Student meeting areas are located at the intersections of these corridors.
