Recent Trends in Fabric Forming

Textile Industry is one of the key sectors which generate substantial revenue and employment. The Indian Textile Industry hence, has demonstrated immense potential towards nation building. However it involves huge investments to convert the potential into performance by way of modernization, environmental compliance and cost competitiveness along with aiming for achieving international quality standards in the products. Government schemes like TUFS laid the foundation for investments in the textile sector for enterprise promotion, modernization and expansion. The shift in focus to Technical Textiles sector which has opened up high performance products has been a very positive development.

Technical textiles are finding an increasing number of applications that include military fabrics and protective clothing, transport, civil engineering and structural fabrics, Agriculture Textiles and other industrial applications. These performance textiles are a new paradigm for the textile industry and represent one of the fastest growing sectors of the industry. Performance textiles are textiles that provide additional functions such as repellency, resistance, or protection from a specified element including fabrics that resist wrinkles, soils, or odors, and/or protect from an environmental condition. They were first introduced in the active wear and outdoor markets, for a wide range of athletics such as aerobics, running, cycling, hiking, swimming, and skiing. Today, performance textiles are not limited to sports and outdoor enthusiasts; they are crossing over the boundary into everyday fashion and home furnishings.

There has been growth both in domestic and international markets paving path for increasing demand for these textile products. It is in this context that various state governments like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh etc came out with policies to provide investment to textile and clothing industries. Particularly, the policy implemented by the Gujarat Government targeting investments of over Rs. 20,000 crores has been well received by the industry.

Domestic demand for branded garments is getting buoyant not only in metros, but also in two & three tier cities. It is time to understand growing customer demands and expectations from these cities. It is also opt time that the local brands align themselves with the international brands in terms of product specifications and consumer preferences. A new demand today brings in innovative technologies to handle pollution and environmental problems. There is a new buzz word "Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC)" and most international brands have taken initiative that their suppliers adhere to these norms.

One of the key factor for the integrated development of the textile industry is "Technology Upgradation" to create level playing field in the global market with appropriateness of the Technology to meet the quality, environmental compliance, productivity, design development and product diversification and cost competitiveness. Sectorally, every sector of the textile trade and industry has to address the concurrent issues to face the diversified challenges. In this pursuit, weaving and Knitting sectors play a crucial role as the best quality fabric with price compititiveness should be made available through innovative technologies emerging in the global market. The technological challenges are discoursed in various forums and The Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit has been arranging these events not only in the business capital-Mumbai but also other tier cities and clusters to bring home the important issues to the doorsteps of the practicing technologists and technicians such as Vapi.
