Brief Report of the Three Day Workshop on

“Recent Advances in Industrial Internet of Things”

(Under TEQIP-II)

from 19th to 21st August, 2016

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering

A three day workshop on “Recent Advances in Industrial Internet of Things” has been organized by ECE department during 19-21 August, 2016 for faculty and students of Shri Vishnu Engineering College for Women, Bhimavaram. Convener of the workshop is Dr. G R L V N Srinivasa Raju, Head of ECE Department and coordinators of the workshop are Mr. M.Prema Kumar, Associate Professor ECE Department. The resource person is Mr.A.Chandra Sekhar from Harman Connected Services, Bangalore. Faculty and III B.Tech. Students of ECE department participated in the workshop. A total of 40 participants are participated in this workshop.

Day-wise activities of the workshop are as follows: Day-1 (19th August, 2016) Report: Inauguration of Workshop took place at 10 AM. Dr. G.R.L.V.N Srinivas Raju, Head, of Electronics and Communication Engineering Department mentioned the importance and developement of the Internet connectivity and introduced the Resource Person Mr. A. Chandra Sekhar. Mr. M. Prema Kumar welcomed the resource person. The resource person Mr. A. Chadra Sekhar gave the basic information about the workshop. Coordinator of this program gave vote of thanks for this Inaugural session.

From 10.45 AM to 12.00 Noon, Mr A. Chandra Sekhar gave brief introduction of Internet of Things and How it is utilize in industrial area. Next 12.00 Noon to 01.00 PM resource person explain the Bolt hardware description and interfacing components in the view of IoT. After 1.00 PM to 2.00 PM lunch break, Mr. A. Chandra Sekhar started to explain the interfacing an output devices such Light Emitting Diode(LED), Buzzer and shows Controlling the intensity of an LED

with software. After that again explained the interfacing an input device such as Digital and Analog Sensors and shows an Intruder alarm and Automated lighting system practically. After five minutes tea break at 3:45 PM, by Mr. A. Chandra Sekhar explained the Fundamentals of HTML language. First day activities were concluded at 5.00 PM.

Day-2 (20th August, 2016) Report: From 09.00 AM to 11.00 AM, Mr.A.Chandra Sekhar provided brief explanation on Java Script and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). He touched basic concepts of script tag and attributes, variables, reference of Ids, functions, set time out function in Java script and inline CSS, document level CSS, selectors in CSS, using CSS in JavaScript.

After five minutes tea break at 11:15 AM, by Mr. A. Chandra Sekhar showed Can you see me WebApp practically using JavaScript. After 1.00 PM to 2.00 PM lunch break, the resource person started to building your first IoT App with that student learning Integrate HTML pages to our project, Control over the desktop and android application, Customize the project via HTML. Again started to Building a panic button for evacuate your premises with a click of a button on a Smartphone app in case of an emergency like fire, earthquake, terror attack. Finally building an app based light dimmer and building an internet controlled robot practically and understanding about the Motor Drivers (L293D), Interfacing Motors, Assembling a Robot.

After five minutes tea break at 03.45 PM, by Mr. A. Chandra Sekhar started to implement the Home automation for understanding Relays and interfacing relays with Bolt. At end of the Session, He showed Controlling your home lighting over a Smartphone app and Controlling Home Appliances over App practically. Day-3 (21st August, 2016) Report: Final Day, from 09.00 AM to 11.00 AM, Mr. A. Chandra Sekhar started to explain the working with the mobile application. First He go through the Data collection. In this analysis and display of sensor data and Viewing sensor data on a Smartphone app (iPhone and Android) and Building an environment monitoring smart phone app and also Monitor the change in light intensity and movement of people in a room. After five minutes tea break at 11:15 AM, by Mr. A. Chandra Sekhar presented data over web. In this presentation showed creating a channel, integrating Channel API with Bolt Platform, sending sensor data to Thing Speak, creating chart on the data, trigger actions based on sensor data and developing a web based monitoring system and Sending messages to slack when data triggers. After 1.00 PM to 2.00 PM lunch break, the resource person explained the Social Media of Things such as Automatic Tweets to alert and Build a door that tweets when opened and also Chair that updates the Face book status if someone is sitting on it.

After five minutes tea break at 03.45 PM, by Mr. A. Chandra Sekhar gave a lecture of various developments in Industrial Internet of Things. The workshop was concluded with the feedback from students and as well as validectatory functions.

Conclusions: This workshop enlightened the faculty and students with the concept of combining computers, sensors, and networks to monitor and control devices has been around for decades, the recent confluence of key technologies and market trends is ushering in a new reality for the “Internet of Things”. Represents a growing aspect of how people and institutions are likely to interact with and incorporate the Internet and network connectivity into their personal, social, and economic lives.
