Print Media : An Introduction
It is a medium that disseminates printed matter and is
responsible for gathering and publishing news in the
form of newspapers or magazine.
History
• Father of Indian Press - Ames Augustus Hickey.
• First Indian newspaper -Bengal Gazette-January,
1780.
• First newspaper in Indian language- Samachar
Darpan – Bengali.
• First Hindi Newspaper- The Oodunt Marthand- 1826.

• Information- free flow of information in major
democracies.
• Entertainment- Humor columns, comics, feature
stories, crossword puzzles and word and number
games continue to stir interest for several readers.

Limitations…
• Cost incurred can be expensive.
• Shelf life of the medium is limited.
• May not always give you a wide reach.
• Target group oriented, of one kind may be missed by the other group of audience.
• Planning months in advance for the print media to develop.
• Useless for illiterate people.
• Too many advertisements may get lost in editorials and the like.
Electronic Media
• Electronic media are media that uses electronics or
electromechanical energy for the end-user (audience)
to access the content.

• Wide spread with no limits and boundaries.
• Highly influential on the part of learner.
• Major source of entertainment in today’s era.
• Power to change the people’s mind.
• Facilitate easy understanding of the subject.
