Palm Sunday is a strange day in our liturgical
calendar. We begin by waving palms, but somewhere in
the middle, we call for Jesus to be crucified. We
celebrate today an equally paradoxical God, one who
comes to save through suffering.
"I tell you, if they keep silent, the stones will cry out!"
Jesus, who so often in the Gospels tries to hide his true
identity, speaks thunderously to the Pharisees who
would still the rejoicing crowd. At the Last Supper,
Jesus confirms the Messianic promise to his disciples,
saying "I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father
has conferred one on me." Yet, before the night is over,
Jesus has been betrayed.
We hear the tragedy unfold in Luke's Passion
narrative. Jesus is abused by the council of elders,
denied by Peter, whipped by Roman soldiers, and
condemned to death by Pilate. But what else do we
see? Jesus heals someone who came to arrest him,
forgives his torturers, promises a repentant man
paradise, and - by his loving endurance - converts a
centurion at the foot of the cross. Jesus is both
Redeemer of the World and Suffering Servant. In
taking on the mantle of Messiah, Jesus does not only
receive our praise and our accolades, but he bears our
burdens and sins and does so with the deepest love. He
may go about our salvation in a paradoxical way, but
he is dearer to our own suffering hearts for it. This
week, we remember that no sorrow of our own is
beyond the reach of the compassion of God.

A Ministry Expo is being planned. It will be set up like a camper or craft show. You will enter at the east end of Keenen Hall and take a walk through the ministry displays. If you see a ministry you would like more information about, there will be a representative or trainer there to answer any questions and sign you up for any of our four churches.
Ministry Expo May 4th 5:30-7:30 & May 5th 11:30am-1:30pm
A light meal will be available (free)
Some of the Ministries will be: Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Sacristans, Altar Servers, Hospitality, Ladies Organizations, St. Anne, (Prayer Shawl), St. Martha (funeral luncheons), Music, Faith Formations, Cemeteries, only to name a few, as well as a member of office staff to answer any questions concerning parish registration, marriage, baptism, etc.
If you are a ministry trainer or leader and was unavailable to attend the planning meeting, please call the parish office to verify you will be able to set up a display. 810-688-3797.
HELP NEEDED: We will need some volunteers for the Ministry Expo. We need greeters, and a few kitchen people to help serve up the hot dogs and drinks. Also, if anyone out there loves to bake, we need cookies for the expo. Please call the parish.

A Traditional Easter Food Basket
One tradition of Holy
Saturday is to bring a
basket with food that will
be blessed on Easter
Saturday. This was in
anticipation of ending the Lenten fast and
celebrating the resurrection of the Lord. The
tradition of food for the Easter basket would
include the following:
Bread: symbolic of Jesus, our true bread
of life
Butter Lamb: reminder of Christ’s goodness—
Our Lamb of God
Cheese: food for celebration
Eggs: symbolic of the tomb and the new
life of the Resurrection
Ham: symbolic of the great joy and
abundance
Horseradish: symbolic of the bitter herbs and the
Passover
Sausage: indicative of God’ generosity in
making all into one
Salt: a valuable seasoning and
preservative—Jesus said
“You are the salt of the earth”
Wine: symbolic of new wine of the
Kingdom of God
Baskets often contain a candle recalling that
Christ is the Light of our world. The baskets are
covered with a white linen cloth or towel. And
the basket contents are to be eaten as the first
meal on Easter morning.
Baskets will be blessed at SS. Peter & Paul on Holy Saturday, April 20th at 1:00pm.

THE PONTIFICAL GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION
Pope Francis has asked our parishes to support the
Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Chris-
tians in the Holy Land.
Your support helps the church minister in parishes,
provide Catholic schools and offer religious education.
The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to
preserve the sacred shrines.
Through the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you
stand in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land
as a witness of peace, supporting Catholics there in
parishes and schools, maintaining Christian shrine
and caring for refuges in the Holy Land.
Cabin Fever Thank You!! THANK YOU to everyone who made our Cabin
Fever Bingo a successful event. We had a great
turnout in regards to setting up, running the event,
clean up and attending. Thank you to all who fur-
nished the great prizes.
We had 167 players and collected $1,124.00 to go
toward the purchase of the Ultrasound Machine for

Easter Memorial flower forms will be available in the gathering area. Flowers are $20 each. Money and forms are due by Sunday April 14th. They can be given to Mike or Lisa Juip and Mike Vinande.
The Sacred Heart Women's Auxiliary is sponsoring a prize raffle that will benefit our Sacred Heart Building fund. The first prize is a handmade quilt, second prizes $150.00, and the third and fourth prizes are gift cards. Tickets are $1.00 and can be purchased before and after Mass on Sundays at Sacred Heart.
Uganda Needs Help Bill and Virginia Ankley returned recently from their annual visit to Ugnada. If you will remember, a few years ago when they went, the St. Margaret School for orphans needed a new kitchen. The money you donated help to finish the kitchen in the school.
During this trip they found the old school had been torn down and are building a new one. The walls are up but need rafters and a roof. The estimated cost is about $2,800.00 shillings or $700.00 American money. The school started in 2015 with 7 orphans and has grown to over 120 students this year.
If you would like to make a donation for this cause, contact Bill or Virginia Ankley. 810-724-8077.
