Rebecca Wilson partner, Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor &Reed PA
Rebecca Wilson joined Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed PA in 2002. One of the youngest real estate partners in the firm, she primarily focuses on land use and development. Wilson recently was lead land-use counsel on several high-profile projects that
have brought jobs to the area, including The Alfond Inn at Rollins College, the Westminster Adult Living Facility in Baldwin Park and the Artisan 420 in downtown Orlando. She has lobbied locally on behalf of the mobile app-based transportation network Uber, and as chair of the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, she has worked to bring SunRail service on the weekends to benefit local merchants.
Age:39 Key business accomplishment: Being made partner in 2009 and then being promoted to a team captain, where I manage a team of attorneys that focuses on land use, development, environmental and licensing law.
My favorite cause: iDignity. It helps the disadvantaged obtain personal identification needed to apply for jobs and other support.
My smartest business move: Choosing to focus on becoming an expert in a small market and establishing a reputation there first
Must-have travel accessory: Phone charger
My most life-changing experiences: The day my daughter was born, building a church in Los Chiles, Costa Rica, and boilding homes for the disadvantaged in Appalachia
How I got my big career break: A male associate who had been groomed to take over one of our most successful partner's business and clients left the firm to work for a development company. It didn't occur to me that I could take his place until a woman partner told me that I should fill this need. The next day, I packed up my stuff and moved it into the vacant office.
Worst summer job I ever had and what I learned from it: I was a lifeguard staring at a pool all day. I learned that I don't like monotony. I want a new challenge each day.
Morning routine: Get up at 5:30 a.m., run, shower, breakfast with my daughter, then have coffee.
