Deceased Organ Donor Registry
AUSTRALIA - Data collection began on 1.1.1989
NEW ZEALAND – Data collection began on 1.1.1993
Data collected prior to 2014 was via a paper form and
Data collected from 2014
in Australia is via electronic data transfer from the Electronic Donor Record (EDR)
in New Zealand direct data entry into the ANZOD online module
Deceased Organ Donor
Actual Organ Donor = A
organ retrieval procedure commenced in the operating room for the purpose of transplantation
includes donors who may have been deemed medically unsuitable during surgery or after the removal of organs
Intended Organ Donor (B – Intended)
C - Intended - DBD planned pathway
D - Intended - DCD planned pathway
E - Intended - not determined pathway
the donation work was initiated as evidenced by both:
1) formal written consent undertaken, including consent for donation of specific organ+/-tissues, and
2) blood for tissue typing sent with allocation of a donor number; but donation did not proceed.

ANZOD Tables
AnzodDonors
There are three Donor IDs
Donor ID unique to the Registry database – nnnnn
Donor ID identifiable to the EDR = DYY-nnnn
Donor ID identifiable to NOMS prior to the EDR introduction
E.g. Q/N/V/S/W/Z/O 00000-99999 – consecutive numeric order by state of retrieval
E.g. QX/NX/VX/SX/WX/ZX 000- Retrospective 01-Jan-1989 – 31-Mar-1989

Counting Methodology
Revised and implemented November 2015
Assist in comparing data at an international level
Easier to understand
• Excluded pancreas islets (counted as tissue)
• Clearly defined counts to tally Organs Transplanted and Organ Transplant Procedures
Organs Transplanted
Each organ is counted individually, regardless of the type of transplantation performed.
• Two lungs retrieved from a single donor and later transplanted, previously counted as 1 organ transplanted, now counts as 2;
• One liver retrieved, split and transplanted into two recipients, previously counted as 2 organ transplanted, now counts as 1; and
• Heart-lung (double) retrieved and transplanted as a block, previously counted as 1 organ transplanted, now counts as 3 (one heart, one left lung and one right lung).
ExampleOrgans Transplanted Count
Single lung retrieved from a single donor and later transplanted 1
Two lungs retrieved from a single donor and later transplanted 2
Single kidney retrieved from a single donor and later transplanted 1
Two kidneys retrieved from a single donor and later transplanted 2
One liver retrieved and later transplanted into a single recipient 1
One liver retrieved, split and transplanted into two recipients 1
Pancreas retrieved and later transplanted as a whole organ 1
Pancreas retrieved, processed into islets and later transplanted 0
Heart retrieved and later transplanted 1
Heart-lung (double) retrieved and later transplanted as a block 3
Total Organs Transplanted 13
Organ Transplantation Procedures
The transplantation of one or more solid organ(s) from a deceased donor to a recipient, reported by organ type
• the procedure includes transplantation of the corresponding organ (same organ type) with or without the simultaneous transplant of a different organ
The total number of transplantation procedures (all combinations) is the sum of transplantation procedures, by organ type, undertaken in any given period
Example
Organ Transplantation Procedures by Organ Type Count
Kidneys
Single Kidney transplantation procedure 1
Double Kidney transplantation procedure 1
Kidney+Other Organ transplantation procedure 1
Total Kidney Tx (All combinations) 3

For an Actual donor
= Incision Date
(if this is absent, as is the case in historical pre EDR records, then = Cross Clamp Date)
For an Intended donorthe following order of data is used :
• Cessation of Circulation Date
• DCD Date (Declaration of Circulatory Death)
• Brain Death Date (2nd test)
• SaO2Date
• SBPDATE
• WRCSDate
