2018 was a big year for our customers and employees. As it comes to an end, we reflect on the missions, milestones
and achievements. See our top moments of 2018.
Achievements: Continued on Page 4.
NASA awarded the contract to build a quiet, super-sonic aircraft, now known as X-59 QueSST.
In April, the Sikorsky CH-53K King Stallion showed off its cool features for the first time internationally during the ILA Berlin Air Show. The K will enable the U.S. Marines and militaries worldwide to move troops and more cargo from ship to shore at higher altitudes — faster than ever before.
Diversity and Inclusion is one of our biggest priori-ties. This year, we have been featured on the Best Companies for Diversity List by Black Enterprise, Indeed's Top Rated Workplaces for Veterans List and named one of 2018's Best Companies for Vet-
erans by Monster .
In November, NASA’s InSight landed on Mars and we became a company of 100,000 Lockheed Mar-tians. We even changed our brand name and logo for the day to celebrate the proud occasion.
In September, CEO Marillyn Hewson, was named the 2018 #1 Most Powerful Woman by Fortune Magazine

President’s Message
First of all, thank you for the overwhelming at-tendance to our Christmas luncheon, 106 attended! We try to make it a little enjoyable, without all the shopping, wrapping presents, cooking. Just relaxing and having a little fun while enjoying our entertain-ment of Greg and Connie Hayworth with their spe-cial music, some oldies plus Christmastime tradi-tional favorites. Several new members and some that had never been to one of the functions attended. Hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you a Happy New Year. I asked Linda Ri-vera and Kay Monroe to share their snap shots of the luncheon as well as our faithful Ed Jones and Ann Hartle always take pictures of all in attendance. A big thank you to the Country Club of Mount Dora and their Chef for the delicious food.
If you think back, our generation tried to build family memories that lasts. Remember when we would gather at a family home and played Christ-mas music. The voice of Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Perry Como drifted around the room adding to the festivities; everyone knew the songs by heart: Rudolph, White Christmas, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and all sang along and nobody cared if you could carry a tune or not. This was a family tradition. Some of you probably still do this. Wheth-er you handwrite, type, or download your stories onto computers, record the family history as best as you can. Some day in the future, new generations are sure to enjoy them (stories that shape our lives).
2019 is here and we look forward to another challenging year. This digital Generation sure keeps us old timers on the ball. REALM gives me such a sense of pride to be your president since I worked for Lockheed Martin for 31 years. I would encour-age those reading this, to recommend to fellow retir-ees to join REALM; it is very self-rewarding if you get involved in helping others.

December 2018 Bridge Results By Wini Suarez
Friday, December 7, three tables played bridge. Ila Clontz and Wini Suarez made seven spades but, alas, had only bid four. Well, next time!! Maybe next time Santa will bring the gift of vision early. HE DID! Wini Suarez and Sharon Timme bid six notrump and made it. Ralph Staschke and John Lampe didn’t get the memo from Santa, bidding two diamonds and making seven the very next bid.
Everyone is so delighted with preparations for upcoming parties, visits with families and preparing for countless relatives and friends coming to Florida to see them (getting cold up north).
HIGHEST SCORES:
Sharon Timme, 4670
Loretta Fiebrandt, 4430
Friday, December 14, four tables played. Loretta Fiebrandt brought a delicious spiral-cut, baked ham for our Christmas Party lunch. Others brought gourmet recipes to accent the holiday mood. Wini Suarez brought dessert from Costco, explaining that she had lost her grandmother’s reci-pe at the last minute.
The sugar high did something to the bidding
skills. The following few hands brought many slams - made but not bid: Sharon Timme and Dottie Ciekot bid three notrump and made six, Susie and John Lampe bid three notrump and made six, Sha-ron Timme and Bob Fiebrandt bid four diamonds and made six, and Tony and Lynette DiBerardino bid five clubs and made seven,
HIGHEST SCORES:
Bob Fiebrandt, 4750
Lynette DiBerardino, 4710 Friday, December 21, three tables played. We
had one missing so we encourage those who we are certain will enjoy playing bridge with us at Beardall Senior Center Fridays from 9:30 am – 2:30 pm to call Loretta Fiebrandt, 407 894-6895 to join us. We need new members!
Lynette DiBerardino and Al Courney bid four hearts and made six. Susie Lampe and Missing also bid four hearts and made six. Norma Christensen brought scrumptious snacks to go along with the sandwiches we brought for lunch. Plans are that we won’t play bridge again until January 4, 2019. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

In a Nutshell By Jon Ramer
I am still vocalizing solo and choral - "Young at Heart" chorus (about 60 voices, ages over 55, sings for seniors), several church choirs, and have not yet left Rollins Music Department after 20 years.
I refrained from singing "Humbug" (Scrooge's aria from 1967 "Stingiest Man in Town") at 'First Watch" on December 11th, so our Radar Breakfast Group, a dozen strong, enjoyed our meal.
Eric Neilson and I also attend the "Stardust Video and Coffee" (1820 Winter Park Road, just North of Corrine Drive) at 6:00am daily.
Since I have been in or through all 50 states, several of them for our company, and many foreign coun-tries, travel is mostly in the past.

Have you ever heard someone say that an invention was in-spired by a work of science fiction? As it turns out, such things are possible. The problem is discovering which claims are true and which are not.
This was the problem that I considered. In previous issues of the REALM News were articles on my first two books. These were The Great Heinlein Mystery: Science Fiction, Innovation and Naval Technology and An ASTOUNDING War: Science Fiction and World War II. My latest book, which just came out in mid-September, is Out of This World Ideas: And the Inventions They Inspired.
Was a type of holography inspired by the story of the discovery of an alien artifact that was from the time of the dinosaurs? Was the Combat Information Center, one of the factors in naval victories during World War II, inspired by a system used to manage massive battles in space? These are just two of the cases considered in Out of This World Ideas. In addition, I look at science fiction authors who have also focused their creative efforts on actual inventions.
Out of This World Ideas is available now in print version on Amazon.com. The Kindle version will be out in the near future. For more information on this and my earlier books, visit my website at www.emwysocki.com.

Lunch Bunches
It’s time to get our lunch schedule established for the year.
We need a few volunteers to step up to sponsor luncheons in the coming months. It is not fair to expect the same people to do this every year. The luncheons are one of our most popular activities and one of the few times we get to socialize with our former co-workers. Pick a restaurant and a month that you would like to sponsor a lunch and call Bill Bowden (407-277-5599) and he will walk you through the simple procedure of scheduling and planning the event. For those of you who have previously sponsored luncheons just let Evelyne and me know the planned dates for this year.
Do you know a retiree who hasn’t joined REALM? Perhaps you know of one or two who forgot to renew their memberships? If so, please point them to the REALM website below so they can download the application and join our fun activities like Group Travel, Lunch Bunches, Volunteer opportunities at the Science Center.
