You’ve seen the global cyber-attack map and you’ve had enough scaremongering. Let’s focus now on the specific issues facing the mid-tier firm:

• what are my liabilities/responsibilities in the event of a successful attack? • how can I change the perception of security in my firm from “this is a burden”

to “this is value”? • can we get a better balance between the user experience and cyber security? • is the cyber security risk greater for law firms than for other industries? • how have industries - such as finance - managed risk, sensitive data and

information?

• what should a proactive cyber security team look like? And how far from this are most law firms?

• what questions should I be asking when engaging cyber security experts? • how will Brexit impact cyber and data security for law firms?

Round Table Discussions – The Here and Now

Technology is racing ahead. How can we harness the opportunities that are available today? How can we make the biggest difference with the technology we already have?Back again by popular demand, this year’s round tables will focus firmly on the practical steps you can take today - to make the maximum impact.

You asked, we responded

In response to your feedback, we have re-designed the way the facilitated round tables work, allowing you to join as many different discussions as possible. The first session (day one 13.45 – 15.15) will consist of seven topics (A1 – A7), each run three times. The second session (day one 15.45 – 17.15) will consist of seven different topics (A8 – A14), each run three

times. This schedule will allow you to attend six of 14 topics.

13.45 Round Table Session 1: A1-A7

There will be three 30 minute sessions.

A1 What does the youthful lawyer want from IT? What is the contrast between their expectations and the reality of

working in a law firm? How can IT policies and devices aid recruitment and retention for the next generation of fee earners? Based on a survey of Michelmores trainees, this will be a frank discussion about the needs of lawyers from the millennial generation, looking at communication tools, social media, devices, legal software, client engagement, work life balance and their motivations and expectations of technology.

Simon Clarke, IT Director, Michelmores

A2 Next Generation DMS - what do your lawyers really need? Having just gone through the whole selection process for a new DMS at

Thomson Snell & Passmore, this session will look at, and discuss, the most important factors to consider when choosing a DMS provider; how working practices within the firm will come into play; and take into consideration the “new professional” and what technology they expect in order to create, collaborate and govern their content in today’s modern law firm.

J Anthony Graham, Head of Information Systems, Thomson Snell & Passmore

A3 Making the business case for agile, mobile and flexible working – and how IT can support the transition

Having fully embraced innovative working practices, accountancy practice PKF Cooper Parry will lead this discussion looking at the business case, the benefits achieved and lessons learned along the way.

can IT affect profits?

A7 Seamless case management implementation Migrating to a new case management system can be a fraught process, for

both the firm and its clients. By utilising legal team experts (as well as the IT team), Gowling WLG was able to design the new system while streamlining existing processes. This helped us to achieve a transfer to a new system while maintaining business as usual for clients, without any impact on our client SLAs and with the potential to maximise existing resources in the future.
