How to Use this Book The goal of this book is to teach children to read basic color words through the means of a memory and matching game. Print out and cut the individual tiles on the following two pages. You will notice there are four different types of tiles; color words in color, bursts of color, color words in black font, and pictures of food that correlates with the color words. You will use these tiles to play the memory game. The game is most effective if done in the order outlined.
How to Play the Color Word Memory Game
1. Use the color words in color and the bursts of color tile. Shuffle the tiles and lay them face down. Have your child pick one tile and say the color word or name of the color name of the color burst. Leaving that tile face up, pick another tile. If it matches (color word to color burst) then set aside. If not, flip over and try again. Continue until your child finds all the matches.
2. Once your child is comfortable with the memory game above, switch the color bursts for the color words in black font. Play as above.
3. After your child is successful with that exercise, swap out the colored color word tiles for the color burst. This time your child will be matching the color bursts with the color words in black font.
4. For extra fun and practice swap out the color bursts for the food tiles. You can continue to play the memory game swapping out tile groups for further practice.

Matching Game Place the color bursts face up on the table. Then hand your child the color word tiles and have her place the proper color word on the color burst. You can vary this game by using any of the groupings as with the memory game.
