Welcome Message from the SIF President

Dear Members, dear Phlebologists,

This year we will organize in Naples the 30th NationalCongress of the SIF (Italian Society of Phlebology) to whi-ch we warmly welcome you.Prof. Gennaro Quarto wanted to give it the motto “....from Naples “New City”, the SIF towards Europe”, cente-ring in full one of the main addresses chosen for the twoyear tenure by the Executive Board, to orient the SIF alsotowards Europe. The first steps in this direction have been made, as illu-strated in the President’s letters, with the enrollment of theSIF in the European College of Phlebology (ECoP) andwith the participation in the design of the EuropeanPhlebological Guidelines at the EVC 2017, organized inco-operation with ECoP, at Maastricht. The representatives of the SIF have figured very well withtwo reports and with the participation in all ten commis-sions for the Guide Lines, bringing a valuable dialecticaland scientific contribution in the different commissions.This route goes on not only with the motto above mentio-ned, but also with the topics of this congress, including theFourth Session entitled “European Phlebology InternationalSession - New Trends in Phlebology”, which will bringunquestioned experts from various European countries,giving the opportunity to confront us directly at home.A “SIF Giovani” Session will be included in the plenary ses-sion for the second time at our National Congress, expressingthe Executive Board’s and the organizer’s will to give ouryoung members an important space. This group, constitutedin 2016 and named “SIF Giovani (SIF Young)”, will bepresent for the first time at our National Congress.Many of the themes programmed are innovative and promi-sing and certainly worthy of an international congress. Thereis no space, and it can not be the goal of this greetings toshare them all, but I invite you to attend the congress per-sonally in order to find out the quality that awaits you.I am convinced that the scientific success is assured and Iwish the organizers also that turnout, participation anddiscussion that finally makes such an event a complete suc-cess.

Saluto del Presidente SIF

Soci carissimi, cari Flebologi,

Quest’anno organizziamo a Napoli il 30° Congresso Nazionaledella SIF, per il quale vi do un caloroso benvenuto.Il Prof. Gennaro Quarto ha voluto dargli il motto “...daNapoli “Città Nuova”, la SIF verso l’Europa”, centran-do in pieno uno degli indirizzi principali scelti in que-sto biennio per la nostra Società e cioè quello di orien-tarci anche verso l’Europa. I primi passi in questa direzione sono stati fatti, comeillustrato nelle lettere del Presidente, con l’iscrizione del-la SIF nell’European College of Phlebology (ECoP) econ la partecipazione alla progettazione delle Linee GuidaFlebologiche Europee in occasione dell’EVC 2017, orga-nizzato in collaborazione con l’ECoP, a Maastricht. I rap-presentanti della SIF hanno figurato molto bene con duerelazioni e con la partecipazione a tutte e dieci le com-missioni per le LG, portando un valido apporto dialet-tico e scientifico nelle singole commissioni.Questo cammino prosegue non solo con il motto citato,ma anche fattivamente con i contenuti di questo congres-so tra cui l’organizzazione della IV sessione “EuropeanPhlebology International Session – New Trends inPhlebology”, che vedrà arrivare esperti indiscussi da varipaesi europei, dandoci la possibilità di confrontarci diret-tamente a casa nostra. Per la seconda volta sarà inserita insala plenaria una Sessione SIF Giovani ad espressione del-la volontà di questo Direttivo e dell’organizzatore di dareuno spazio importante ai giovani, che quest’anno per laprima volta sono presenti al Congresso Nazionale comeGruppo SIF Giovani, il futuro della nostra società.Molti temi delle varie sessioni sono innovativi e pro-mettenti e senz’altro degni anche di un congresso inter-nazionale. Manca lo spazio, e non può essere l’obiettivodi questo saluto di quotarle tutte, ma mi permetto diinvitarvi a partecipare ed a rendervi conto di personadella qualità che vi aspetta.Sono convinto che il successo scientifico è assicurato edauguro agli organizzatori anche quella affluenza, parteci-pazione e discussione che alla fine fanno di un eventoun successo completo.

Saluto del Presidente del Congresso

L’organizzazione di un evento scientifico è un grandeonore, ma al tempo stesso un onere che comportal’investimento di tempo e di risorse mentali e fisiche. L’organizzazione del Trentennale di una importanteSocietà Scientifica, quale è la Società Italiana diFlebologia, è qualcosa di totalizzante.Ed è con questo spirito che ho accettato l’incaricodell’organizzazione del XXX Congresso Nazionale dellaSocietà Italiana di Flebologia, con il quale il ConsiglioDirettivo Nazionale mi ha voluto onorare, ormai più diun anno fa. In questo tempo, apparentemente lungo (mache è volato) il mio unico obbiettivo è stato quello dicreare un evento all’altezza degli illustri precedenti e conl’ambizione di lasciare un segno nei partecipanti tutti,nei presidenti, nei moderatori, nei relatori e negli illu-stri ospiti provenienti da numerosi stati esteri, che sonocerto vorranno tutti condividere con me e con ilComitato Scientifico ed Organizzativo (senza il cui sup-porto non avrei mai potuto inoltrarmi in questa impre-sa e a cui vanno il mio plauso, la mia stima e la miagratitudine incondizionata) un momento di altissimospessore scientifico.I punti salienti dell’organizzazione riguardano:

– Programmazione della sessione SIF GIOVANI per lecomunicazioni degli iscritti UNDER-40 che concor-rono al Premio “Pierina Benzoni”, come prima ses-sione del congresso e in aula plenaria, a testimoniarela grande attenzione che la SIF riserva ai colleghi piùgiovani;

– Organizzazione delle tematiche delle sessioni per pato-logie con impostazione “problem solving”;

– Due sessioni di Relazioni Selezionate a Tema Libero,per un maggiore spazio a tutti i soci che vorrannocondividere con la Società riunita i propri casi clini-ci e le proprie osservazioni;

– Sessione Congiunta con AFI, SICVE, SIAPAV e SIFCS(tutte prestigiose società scientifiche con interesse fle-bologico) sul tema del Tromboembolismo Venoso.

L’innovazione di cui vado più fiero, tuttavia, riguarda lacreazione della “European Phlebology InternationalSession”, una sessione internazionale con esperti di fle-bologia provenienti da tutta Europa, nell’ambito di unainternazionalizzazione della Società Italiana di Flebologia,e della Flebologia più in generale, necessità quanto maiattesa e fortemente voluta da questo direttivo e dalPresidente Ebner.La venue del congresso è parte integrante di questo pro-posito, e mai città fu più adatta, in questo momento,di Napoli, la mia città, nella esclusiva cornice del suolungomare, unico in tutto il mondo. Napoli, città in profondo mutamento, e che sta viven-do un fase di rinascita e rilancio internazionale, ben testi-

monia questo passaggio che sta attraversando la flebolo-gia italiana e le sue espressioni societarie. Benvenuti aNapoli, Città Nuova (nella sua antica accezione diNεαπολίς), ma anche Parthenope, sirena innamorata,morta suicida secondo la leggenda, ma che una grandescrittrice napoletana, Matilde Serao, ci dice sia viva, gio-vane e bella; da cinquemila anni corre sui poggi e sul-le spiagge della nostra città e la rende ebbra di luci efolle di colori; è lei ancora che fa brillare le stelle nellenotti serene…. Ma Napoli anche città di ritrovata giu-stizia in una terra nuova e fertile di prospettive e talen-ti, con una ritrovata speranza nel futuro.

Welcome Message from the Congress President

Organizing a Scientific Meeting is a great honour but, atthe same time, a commitment which entails a great invest-ment in terms of time and mental and physical energies.Organizing the Thirty-year of an important ScientificSociety such as the Italian Society of Phlebology (SIF) issomething which totally gets involved.With this kind of spirit I accepted the responsibility to orga-nize the 30th National Congress of Italian Society ofPhlebolgy, having the SIF Executive Board honored me withthis conferment more than one year ago.In this apparently long time (it just flew away!) my onlytarget was to organize a meeting equal to the illustriousprecedents and, ambitiously, capable to have an impact onall congress members, session chairmans, moderators, speak-ers and the illustrious international guests who will wantto share with me, the Scientific Committee and theSecretariat (I could not have got involved in this challengewithout their partnership and my unconditional esteem andgratitude go to them) a moment of high scientific level.The main purposes of this Congress are:

– “SIF Giovani”, the Under 40 - reserved free lecturessession which compete for the “Pierina Benzoni” awardfor the best young speaker’s lecture

– Problem solving-based sessions

– Two Selected Free Lecture Sessions, for a largerinvolvement of all the Society members who have per-sonal casuistry and opinions to expose

– Joined session with other prestigious Italian ScientificSocieties (AFI, SIAPAV, SICVE and SIFCS) whichdeal with Phlebology, about DVT and PE.

Tough, the innovation which I am mostly proud of is thecreation of the European Phlebology International Session,with Experts from all over the Europe, within an interna-tionalization of our Scientific Society and, generally, of theentire Italian Phlebolgy, a necessity strongly felt by the SIFExecutive Board and its in office President, Heinrich Ebner.The congress venue is integral part of this objective andactually, Naples, with its unique in the world promenade,is the most suitable city (my city!).Naples, a fastly and profoundly changing city, which is liv-ing a phase of international relaunch, well testifies thechanging in Italian Phlebology and its Scientific Societies.Welcome to Naples, “New City” (in its Greek meaningNεαπολίς), but also “Parthenope”, a mermaid in love who,

according to the legend, killed herself but, for Matilde Serao,a Neapolitan writer, she is still alive, young and good-look-ing, and she has been running for 5000 years throughoutthe hills and the shores of Naples, making it inebriated ofcolors and crazy of life.Moreover Neaples is a city in which the sense of justice hasbeen re-discovered, a new earth, fertile in perspectives andtalents, with a new-found hope for the future.To everyone… I’ m looking forward to you!
