Details are sketchy, but late last week,employees of Nicola Ranch were givenlay-off notices, and notification that theRanch will cease operations. And asmany also live out there, it also meansthey’ll lose their homes. Word is that theissue revolves around the senior Mr.Liu’s will & estate.

funding through the B.C.|Canada 150grants: Canadian Country Music Hall ofFame upgrade project $25,000; NV Her-itage Society (Baillie House) reroofing thebottling works building $8,000; and Trin-ity United Church’s historic MurrayChurch 1876 $18,000.
Altogether, more than 220 projects in150 communities throughout BC are re-ceiving a total of $7.6 million.

Last week, a freedom of informationrequest revealed the City of Vancouverhas spent at least $323,000 fighting theKinder Morgan pipeline expansion.
And this week, SFU academic TomGunton argued that Canada’s oil indus-try might not need the new pipeline onceit’s complete. He thinks that with all theprojects under development — TransMountain expansion, Keystone XL & En-ergy East pipelines — along with recentforecasts showing dramatically lessgrowth in Canadian oil output, the coun-try will wind up with massive overcapac-ity to move oil.
Meanwhile, two weeks ago, KinderMorgan Inc said it has booked all of the22,000 barrels per day of capacity it hadoffered to the oil industry, after earlier inthe month, commitment for the pipelineproject had dipped 3%, or 22,000 barrelsper day, when the US pipeline companyhiked tolls. The total approved capacityis 890,000 barrels per day.
The company says that all availablelong-term capacity on the pipeline hasnow been contracted to 13 customers.About 80% of the capacity on the ex-panded pipeline has 15- and 20-yearcommitments, with the remaining 20%reserved for spot volumes as required byregulators. And now, the next steps in-clude arranging financing for the project.
Here in Merritt, Mayor Neil Menardis excited for what the project will do forjobs & the economy of this town. He’sraring to go, “Bring it on!” he says.
