DESCRIPTION

Acting as the enforcer of Viacom's intellectual property rights, Gowlings Lafleur Henderson LLP sent this threat to a small teaching organization in Canada that was offering a workshop on elementary education. Although the resemblance of the organization's cartoon to Dora the Explorer is at best superficial, and the organization could presumably at least argue fair use, the lawyer writing the letter claimed the cartoon violated Viacom's copyright and threatened the company's reputation.
