to give grace. (Baltimore Catechism, 1885)

with us through the material things of this world

Bread, Wine, Oil, Water, Words, Gestures.

Candles, Garments/Vestments, Incense,

“Instituted”: to set up, to establish, to ordain, to

originate, to found, to organize, to nominate, to

appoint, to begin, to commence…

“Grace”: unmerited divine assistance given

Humans for their regeneration or sanctification…

his life with us through material things of this

To be grace filled, to be good, to be saved…

All creation is designed to save human creation…

It is where time meets eternity, where creature

meets creator, where human meets divine…

* Priest: the responsibility of making sacrifices for others

* Prophet: proclaim the Good News of God’s love; required to see injustice in our world and to take up the cause of the oppressed.

* Royalty: protect and care for others, especially most in need; empowered to work for a just society.

THE SACRAMENTS Baptism Who can Baptize?

The ordinary ministers of Baptism are the bishops,

priests and deacons.

In case of necessity, anyone, even a non-baptized

Person with the required intention, using the Trinitarian formula. The intention required is to will what the Church does when she baptizes (ccc 1256).

THE SACRAMENTS Baptism At Baptism we receive an indelible spiritual

mark. We “are sealed” as belonging to Christ.

Baptism is given once for all, and cannot be

repeated. (ccc 1272)

It is a “community” Sacrament. The Church

community is represented by the friends and

family members of those being Baptized.

Confirmation (to strengthen)

Matter: The Imposition of the Hands and

Anointing with oil.

Form: N., Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Principal Effects:

It is the full outpouring of the Holy Spirit,

given by the Apostles on Pentecost. It increases

and deepens baptismal grace.

It strengthens our bond more closely with

Christ, the Church and our Christian mission.

It increases in us the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Principal Effects:

Current meaning Wisdom(Sapientia) – contemplation. Understanding(Intellectus) - insight. Counsel (Consilium) - prudence. Fortitude (Fortitudo) – perserverance. Knowledge (Scientia) – knowledge. Piety (Pietas) - devotion. Fear of the Lord - respect.

“And the Spirit of the Lord will rest upon him:

The spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit

of counsel and fortitude, the spirit of knowledge

and piety.

He will be filled with the spirit of fear of the Lord.

he will not judge according to the sight of the eyes,

nor reprove according to the hearing of ears.”

Isaiah 11:2-3

THE SACRAMENTS Confirmation

The ordinary minister of Confirmation is the Bishop.

The Bishop however, may grant the faculty of administering Confirmation to priests.

The usual age for Confirmation in the U.S. today is 16.

at one time it was 13. And in some countries it is administered when an infant is Baptized.
