Jesus Christ• Jesus is the central figure of
Christianity.
• “For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through him.” John 3:16 – 17)
Jesus Christ• Jesus is the Son of
God. Because Jesus is God and came among us as a human being, we then state that Jesus has two natures: divine and human.
• Therefore, Christians believe that Jesus is both God and man at the same time.
Jesus Christ
Though there have been many great teachers throughout history, none of them have claimed to be divine (God) as Jesus claimed.
Why did God (Jesus) become man?
(CCC 456-460)
1. He came to save us from our sins.
2. He came so that we might know God’s love.
3. He came to be our model of holiness.
4. He became man in order that we could share in
His divine nature.
C. S. Lewis said it well: "The Son of God became a
man that men might become sons of God."
God became a man so that you might become
God's child.
Now that is something worth celebrating!
Who is Jesus Christ? Humble
Beginnings
He is God's only begotten son, the eternal Word, yet He came from the throne of His Father to the womb of a woman, the Blessed Virgin Mary. He became Son of Man that we might become sons of God.
The First Thirty Years
• He was conceived by
the Holy Spirit, and
born of the Virgin
Mary. He lived in
simplicity, a carpenter
by trade and was
unknown outside of
his homeland. He had
neither wealth nor
influence.
Jesus at the synagogue at
Nazareth
He calls others : His disciples,
His Apostles.“I will make you fishers of men”
Who is Jesus Christ?
Public Life He could have had
riches and power, yet for our sakes chose to establish His Kingdom among the ordinary people.
He associated with the poor, the sinners, the ones at the margins of society.
Who is Jesus Christ?
Public Life
• He travelled unceasingly teaching and preaching
about the Kingdom of God.
• He slept in another's stable; He rode another's
donkey; He was buried in another's grave
Who is Jesus Christ?
Miraculous Ministry• In manhood, He
ruled the elements and quieted the raging sea. He healed miraculously, and fed thousands from a boy's lunch.
• Even demons obeyed Him and He gave back life to those who were dead.
Jesus heals
Who is Jesus Christ?
He died for us.
• He was despised and rejected by men who were unable to receive His message of love, meekness, humility.
• He suffered and sustained in body and soul the wages of sin - the sin of the whole human race
He was crucified on a cross. • Though He was
innocent, He was
condemned by His
own people and
their rulers and
sentenced to death
on a cross.
• After hours of
extreme physical
anguish, He died.
He won our salvation
• By His suffering and
death, He paid completely
for the sins of humanity.
He set us free from the
certain judgment and
eternal condemnation that
was to fall on all of us.
• Having fully satisfied God's
perfect justice, He
conquered death and rose
on the third day as He said
He would.
Who is Jesus Christ?
His dying and His rising is the
heart of Christian life.
Some have given their lives for others, and great men have come and gone, yet Jesus Christ lives on. Herod could not kill Him. Satan could not stop him. Death could not destroy Him. The grave could not hold Him.
His Legacy
Jesus Today
• Two thousand years after he walked the earth, Jesus of Nazareth remains one of those most talked-about and influential people who has ever lived.
• People from all walks of life have studied his life, character, teachings and followers. He has been quoted, misquoted, filmed, reported on, worshipped and argued over.
• Most of all, He is loved.
Jesus Today
• One third of the world’s population are
Christians.
• More than a billion of them are Catholics.
• We, His Church, are the face of Jesus in the
world today.
• How we as Christians live our lives as followers
of Jesus makes His presence real amidst the
darkness of our days and times.
Who do you say I am?Matthew 16:13-17
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
14They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
16Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
17Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in
heaven.
• And
so, the
question
now is
“Who is
Jesus
Christ to
me?”
HE IS!
When you are the neediest, He is the most sufficient.
• When you are completely helpless, He is the most helpful.
• When you feel totally dependent, He is absolutely dependable.
• When you are the weakest, He is the most able.
• When you are the most alone, He is intimately present.
• When you feel you are the least, He is the greatest!
• When you feel the most useless, He is preparing you.
• When it is darkest, He is the only Light you need.
• When you feel the least secure, He is your Rock and Fortress.
• When you are the most humble, He is most gracious.
• When you say that you cannot, remember that He can!

Jesus taught us to pray…
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name,
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil,
Amen.
