Personal Message for Year 11:

It is with a very real sense of excitement that I see you move into year 11. I hope you are beginning to see and feel the force of my desire that your year group achieve huge success in your final exams.

Success in this context may mean different things to different individuals - some of you may be heading for a significant number of A/A*s, some of you may want to ensure you have the correct grades for your chosen education course, training or job. For all it should mean making outstanding progress and attaining a C grade or above in English and Maths. I urge you to focus, work hard and make every lesson a successful learning experience which draws you nearer to your personal goal. We are all behind you and will work tirelessly to support your personal aspirations and enable you to maximise your potential. Making a Revision Timetable – use the template example you were given in form!Be realistic. Make your daily timetable achievable. Make a list of the subjects that you need study.Concentrate on those specific topics or modules that you are weak on. Break down major revision subjects into smaller parts.Revise the hardest subjects for you first!Ensure that you include break times during the day.Work out when you ‘study best’, for instance some people are able to concentrate better in the morning. • After completing a session cross it off from your timetable • At the end of each week assess and amend your plans. • Study slots should be around 40 minutes each, up to 3 hours per day.

Independent Study – Over the holidays you will be given Independent Study which you must complete and return in September. This will also contribute towards your revision! You need become more INDEPENDENT – take ownership of your own learning! There is no better time than now to do so.Standards - We have high expectations of the standards of our students at Cockshut Hill. As a parent you need to ensure your child is fully equipped and in full uniform for their return to College in September. Please remember the College’s decision is final. Uniform details can be found on the College website. The main supplier is Midland Schoolwear.Time to start thinking about:• The Prom – will you be there? Is your place safe?• Post 16 – what do you want to do? Where do you want to be?

Next time:Focus is on ...• The year ahead – the heat is on • UCAS• Post 16 opportunitiesEnjoy your summer break – see you on the 3rd September 2014 – ready for the most important year ever!

All details, updates and the academic calendar for the year ahead are available on the College website.
